/ hegshot87 We're somewhere over 1000 rounds now in the Canik Mete Mc9 and now it's time to see if this popular carry gun actually works when wet. Last year I compared it to other popular carry guns and it didn't go well and today we'll take another look and see if the 3rd times a charm.

Every review that has had some kind of issue with the MC9 comes at around the 800 round mark. Granted it’s not super common, but common enough to where I’d run it through the wringer before using it as a EDC. When it comes to what I EDC, I don’t mind paying extra to get something like a S&W or a Glock. Not to say budget guns suck. I occasionally carry a Ruger EC9s and have run over 1000 rounds through it with only a single malfunction, in which I blame that more on just the gun breaking in period. It’s just with budget guns you HAVE to test them thoroughly before using it as an EDC versus a Glock, which you can basically carry as soon as you take it out the box

Yeah. Wrong. My first and only glock FTEd twice under two hundred rounds. Not cheap range ammo either. Even the magazines wouldn't drop freely until around the two hundred mark. That's called a break in period.

See my just posted comments on the 9 month ago video. The fire control system in the frame could be the problem if something prevents the sear from engaging the striker. The striker assembly isn't the only thing that can cause a dead trigger and failure to return to battery has many possibilities: underpowered cartridges, bad cartridges, lack of lubrication, limp wristing etc.

I rented a P365, P365XL, Hellcat and Shield Plus. The bigger micro 9's fit my hand better and were more pleasant to shoot--less snap. I ended buying a Taurus G3c since is was similar in size to the Shield Plus but half the price at the time. But the G3c trigger breaks too far back for me to easily get proper trigger pull. Shield Plus and my Rival triggers are much better for me. I even compared all three at range when fellow club member handed me his Shield Plus to try with his reloads. Chris on Honest Outlaw channel still prefers his Shield Plus. I'll rent both the MC9 and Shield Plus before I pick one. I really like the Rival trigger and liked the MC9 trigger when I dry fired it at a gun store. I know I would need to go with one of the longer backstrap options for it. I have a Ruger LCP Max which has a lot of muzzle snap and is not pleasant to fire. Which Shield Plus model do you have?

It seems that the MC9 is a bit of a problem child in the Canik line and to be honest it is one of the only pistols I’ve seen that suffers from some of the stoppages that are reported. Granted when the SFX elites first came around they had some battery issues but that turned out to be due to a stiff recoil spring that was designed to work with a diet of 124gr or greater which is the norm for European markets; whereas, in the states 115 gr is the norm. Swap in a lighter spring and it ran 115gr flawlessly. I have never seen claims of Caniks having light primer strikes in the past and that seems to be a fairly common complaint with the MC9 along with claims of a dead trigger where it fails to reset after cycling. I am wondering if there isn’t something going on with the trigger bar and sear where it is hanging up slightly. I never experienced any of these issues with my MC9 and I put close to 3k rounds through it before I sold it (I needed money not because it was a bad gun; I would never have sold it otherwise). Now, on another note, I am done with the whole micro 9 thing. I am going back to full size pistols with a Tisas 1911 DS carry or the MAC 9DS being on my radar. I find that while the micros are a pleasure to carry due to their discrete size, that shooting them regularly is not nearly as enjoyable. It is kind of funny how the 365 started this 3“ barrel, sub 1" width, stack and a half 10 round EDC craze, and yet now people are flocking to the larger variants of that pistol that are only slightly smaller than a Glock 19 or M&P 2.0 compact because they are easier and more enjoyable to train with. So in essence what we have is a sub 1" wide stack and a half in a compact barrel and grip length that carries between 13 and 17 rounds with flush and extended fit magazines. Then there is the fact that they cost the nearly the same if not more in some instances than their compact siblings yet deliver roughly the same shooting experience with the only added benefit being that maybe they shave 2 to 3 ounces of weight off the belt line. Once you get into the Macro, XL, Pro, or Plus the minimization of printing is greatly diminished and is almost negligible IMO. I am not a very big guy and can conceal a Glock 19 just as easy as I can 43x or 48. The same goes for an M&P 2.0C or Shield Plus and it doesn't matter what I am wearing either. Now, let’s not get ignorant and say, “okay what about under a wife beater“ because that would only demonstrate gow ignorant you are. Point is I do not want to have a firearm just because it is what is trendy in the moment anymore. I want to know that I can train with it, carry it daily, and if the need arose I could go to war with it and not have it wear me out or pain me to shoot it for great lengths of time. If that means it is a tad bit heavier on the belt so be it.

I sweat, my gun gets wet. If I need it and when I pull the trigger, the slide finishes closing means closed casket for me. People say it's the recoil spring and blame weak ammo as the reason put a weak spring in it. I'm just wondering why ive never heard of that problem in the Elite sc. Maybe I'm weird, but videos that show gun problems makes me try to make my gun do the same thing. If I can't I put it up and try more then maybe carry it. If I get a gun that has never in the history of the firearm maker never had a problem, and I have a issue I have lost any hope in that gun. If I have a gun failure that's proved to be a 1 in a million problem I'm done with that gun. Might not be right, but for sale by owner post is in my future.

It has nothing to do with rain. And yes Canik has admitted there is some sort of issue even if it's just by the fact they have been sending customers replacement parts. Have they said just what exactly the problem is. I don't believe so. They may not even be 100 percent sure themselves. I wish so many gun tubers would stop proclaiming it a reliable pistol. Far too many have had problems and it hasn't always shown up even from day one. Many have the issues hundreds of rounds in and some even thousands of rounds in. Something is just not quite right about it no matter how reliable their previous models have been.

Is it really a budget gun thou? It's exact same price as a shield plus and not much cheaper then the 43x.

I bought one a month ago and sent it for warranty work due to failure to go into battery. Just tested after return from Canuk and same same.... I do not recommend this as a CC.

My MC9 is the worst gun I ever purchased. I can't wait to trade it in. I have too many reliable guns that I have no time to deal with the problems with this gun.

From my research, many people are reporting the MC9 is hot garbage and Canik can’t fix it. 🔥
