Bar keepers friend! It’s a cleaner you can get at Walmart or Amazon. It wipes tea stains right off stainless. It also takes the blackened area around the spout of your pressure cooker. Might even work for inside the pressure canner. It’s my best friend lol I use it on my stainless appliances. It comes powder like comet, spray or cream. I prefer the cream. The powder is great on grills.

Hi. I see this video was made almost 3 years ago but I just saw it now. The only thing I've ever canned is a few batches of Chock-cherry jelly, which turned out very well & great to have over the winter months on pancakes & waffles. I want to try pickles and your video is an awesome way to get started. I don't have enough cucumbers now but hopefully I'll get enough soon. I wanted to thank you for your video and I especially enjoyed your narration of the process and the excitement you shared. I bet you are a fun person to be around. I hope all is going well, take care & I wish you all the best!

This year was the first time I have ever made kosher dill pickles. I used the large packages of the Mrs. Wages Kosher Dill Pickle Mix. We likes it so much that I have made three more batches. Two of those where triple batches. I also made Bread and Butter pickles using Imstillworkings recipe. Good luck with your canning.

I have one of those funnels too and just love it I've tried the Ball Pickle Mix and the kids say they are not as good as the Mrs. Wages. I made about 6 batches of the Dill and I lost count of how many Bread and Butter Pickles I made but it wasn't enough, they ate them just about as fast as I could make them. The funny thing is I hate pickles but I love making them. Thanks for sharing.

Cloth diapers? I did not know anyone still used them. I tried but when we went back to work, we started using pampers. Where did you get the funnel? I would put my slicers and my chips in separate jars if I could. I also try to remove any loose seeds before I pour in my pickling juice. I love using a water bath canner. It beats using the pressure canner hands down. God bless your wonderful family. God bless America and thank you for sharing.

I made pickles a few summers ago. I can't find the recipe I used to can them, but I know it involved setting the slices in a bucket wth salt and ice for a very long time before I canned them. Best canned pickles I have ever had. If I find the recipe (crspy trick)I will come back and post it here for you to try.

I have a recipe that uses sliced cubes and then you add 1/2 c canning salt to 3 quarts ice water then pour ice water over veggies and set for 3 hours. If this sounds like your recipe, I can message you the complete recipe

Hi. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the knowledge, tips, and thoughts that you share. I became aware of your channel through a link from Noreen's channel (my cooking guru). Since I have retired I told my wife that I was taking over the cooking and household duties since she is still working. I had no idea what I was doing in the kitchen, so I turned to youtube. Between Noreen and yourself I have been cooking up some great meals, baking breads, and doing some canning, with much success. In an earlier video you posed the question " what can we do to make the world better?" You are doing your part. The gift of knowledge is invaluable and enriches us all. Thank you! By the way, to all the haters and people who feel the need to give a thumbs down. Keep that sh*t to yourselves. What the hell are you doing to make the world a better place?

What do you do to make your pickles not float to the top of the jar after processing? I packed as tight as I could and pushed out the air bubbles but they still float to top and the liquid is all on the bottom about an inch or two.

Hey Heather....its been almost 2 yrs since this session. Did your family eat all of the pickles? Would you do them this way again? I've made dill and bread and butter in the past, but for my Southern soul....kosher has too much garlic. I'm searching for a pickle recipe that tastes like Heinz Genuine Dills...which are more salty/sour than dilly. I've fermented too, but the recipe I did also calls for garlic and dill. The end result was still too garlicky and dilly. Maybe I should try again and just leave it out. (Sorry for the ramble)
@TheKneadyHomesteader8 жыл бұрын

What I have discovered is that Ball and Kerr have been bought out by a company named Newell. They are paying to use the Ball and Kerr licensed names. Hence the crappy new lids and rings. After contacting Newell, I was sent and email that said the following. 1. Press down on the lid, is it doesn't spring up it is sealed. 2. If you tap the tops of the jars with the bottom of a spoon to listen for an odd sound, but only people with good hearing should use this method. AND 3. LOOK FOR THE INDENTION. I want everybody everywhere to go to freshpreserving.com and fill out the contact form located at the bottom of that page, send an email with the subject line BRING BACK ORIGINAL BALL LIDS AND RINGS. Then tell them what your experience has been, your disappointment, the dissatisfaction with the length of time the seal on the crappy new lids is good for...18 months? I am like I could go buy store canned goods that are best by for18 months. Ridiculous, please help spread the word. We're being played. All the money for jars and product and you cannot depend on the SEAL. Thanks for listening. I listen for the pops. 8 jars 7 pops, then I have to use a spoon to figure out which one didn't seal. 3 flat lids, 4 indentations. Grrr

@wedgiegrl19787 жыл бұрын
did these turn out very crispy? Or have you changed your recipe a bit? been looking into canning and preserving but my main concern with pickles is if i can get them nice n crisp...
@TheKneadyHomesteader7 жыл бұрын
+wedgiegrl1978 the only way to have that nice snap is to make refrigerator pickles. Cooking them in the preserving process will always take that away. Pickle crisp helps but the pickle is still being cooked while processing. So its very much like a pickle you find in the pickle isle at the grocery store. Unlike the pickles you find at the grocery store in the refrigerated section. So if you buy your pickles cold then you won't like the pickles you buy room temp in the condiment isle. And you will want to make a refrigerator pickle and not process it in a canner. It won't be shelf stable tho.
@wedgiegrl19787 жыл бұрын
The Kneady Homesteader I do buy mine off the shelf normally. I know they won't be like a fresh cucumber lol just like for them to have a bit of a crunch.
