Sometimes out of sadness and need something beautiful happens. And this I hope can be just that. Its been pointed out to me recently that not everyone who is involved in the knife making community feels welcome by others (often more advanced makers) and so many of us struggle with procrastination. so I have created the TFS knife maker challenge Facebook group where every month anyone who wants ( new or old) will build a knife. We all build the same knife in weekly stages. New makers to get help along the way and look at examples of each bit as we will all be adding pictures during the week. And more experienced makers can show of a little with embellishments or try new techniques the would otherwise not try on a commission piece.

Sharing knowledge and supporting the craft is why I run my channel, and cohost a blacksmithing podcast. I like the idea of the challenge as a platform to incentivise people to get stuck in. I'll be up for it.

Nice work! I’ve been making knives since I was 16... I’m 50 this year...and I’ve learnt more in the last 5 years than in the previous 30 years. That’s because of of the Internet but it’s also about how willing people are to share their knowledge. A wonderful thing!

Ooooooh bugger second again lol great idea can’t wait to join but my in-law’s are here for a 3month holiday,, so I’m not sure if I won’t get in the workshop or maybe have some help (striker) or banished to the workshop for 3months but I’m looking forward to do a challenge,,, I may be slow,,,,,, but I am dodgy,,,, hahahahaha Rock on Toby 🤘

This is awesome brother. NICE WORK! I will try and participate but time is my biggest hold up as its been a 4 month process for me to find time to finish 4 knives lol. Will see how i go. May i suggest basic carbon steel or leave the steel open for what ever people may have. Like for me ive just got a sheet of 1084 that i would be crazy not to use if thats all i have.

Yeah that part of the point dude but we'll all make our own interpretation of exactly the same knife ie say we agree on full tang clip point hunter there would be nothing stopping you making it from 1084 with g10 scales and carbon fiber pins with file work on the spine and me doing a stainless one with timber ect. I'm think well need to refine the guidelines as we go but basically same physical shape and and profile knife

@@TobyFireandSteel ahhhh ok got ya. I got lost there for a second. Thought it was all to be the same timber, same steel etc. I like the same basic guideline and type and build details but materials and embellishments all open to each builder. I dig it.

@@TobyFireandSteel thats awesome. Its a great idea. If it gets to the point where you need a hand with moderation im happy to help enforce the "dont be a dick" rule :)
