Toby, got to apologise as I have just viewed this vid. Well done Mate on the Eveleigh walk around. I wish I had have known you were doing it as I would have come up and said g'day. Anyway that is me talking with Don just at the end. And to all those thinking of visiting Mat at Eveleigh just DO IT. Blacksmith history and heavy forging is fantastic to see. Sorry, bit bias there.

@@TobyFireandSteel Sure was mate. All the way from sunny QLD. Half the boys couldn't get through because of the bush fires. Love to have you come and visit one day. I caught your channel through the Fly Press refurb.

Hi, what was that double arch rated at? I have worked under many power hammers from little trip hammers up to 40cwt (yes 40 or 2 ton) double arch B&S Massey. NZ Railway Workshops Woburn, sadly the Blacksmith shop is gone due to govt policy in late 80s. I have photos of our shop when i was an apprentice in early 80s. There were 12 Blacksmiths and 7 apprentices when i started in 1980. Hard heavy work but very satisfying..strikers, hammer operators all very skilled men, ppe was optional but most just wore glasses when under the hammer or forge welding etc. Nice vid brought back so many memories...thanks.

can you imagine the sound from a shop on that scale back during the start of the industrial revolution! It would be insane. All those power hammers pumping and pounding, roaring forges and blowers, 50+ smiths swinging hammers. It would have been like thunder im sure .

Very impressive. Many thanks for the guided tour through this interesting industrial hall. Btw. Do you see the spider at 09:09? I come from Germany and heard about especially poisonous spiders in Australia. Is that one too? Creepy ;-) Many greetings, Michael

Yeah mate its actually a Redback spider native to Australia. Interestingly though it was made at Eveleigh by a young German blacksmith called Mathias Kuhn whilst he was in Australia.
