I test the Canon 24mm F2.8 pancake lens on the streets of Brighton to find out if this cheap, budget lens is the best for Street Photography.

Glad I’ve found your channel, looks like we bought the lenses in the same order. Love my 50mm but use my 24mm especially for Street Art in narrow back streets

I put this lens in perspective:is like a 50mm 1.8 in terms of sharpness and contrast, just even smaller, not as fast and far wider, so if you are happy with photos gotten out of a 50mm, then you may like it, they seems "the same", also, the fact is so physically small, makes it unique in close focus matters, this thing is just few centimeters near of some truly macro lenses, also along a flip screen camera allows you to put your camera in small places, all these spects and the ones coming from the own focal lenght make it my current favorite lens, I use it pretty much for anything, I feel it is underated, but I hope some day it gets a lot more buyers.

Last year as a broke beginner who was gifted the old eos 60d I made a mistake by buying the 50mm 1.8 as I realized just how tight the focal length was on a crop sensor for street photography. Although it is amazing for portraits. I'm gonna get the 24mm now for street as its much closer to how I see photos in my head

Great video man! Unfortunately you haven't been uploading videos for 4 years now, but if your still alive i have a question for you lol. what would u recommend between the 24mm and 50mm on a cropped camera? i feel like the 50 on an aps-c becomes too "near" to the subject. thank you

Will the Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8 STM fit onto a full Frame body like the 5D? I know it's designed for APS-C bodies, but I've read competing views as to whether it will actually fit onto a full frame body, albeit with some vignetting.

Do you think its a good idea to get 24mm and 50mm as my only lenses for my t7i or 800d? I feel like kit lens is not a good option for me as its cheap and i will not be doing soo much zoom. I do mostly portraits and street photography and maybe some landscapes. Please let me know your opinion.

You can’t really go wrong with those two lenses in my opinion. For the prices you’re paying you’re getting the best of both worlds. A nice low aperture on the 50mm for portraits and a nice wide lens for your landscapes. Definitely a good option compared to the kit lens

can you tell me your street photography settings and what programs do you use for editing pictures...or presets?

I mainly shoot in manual mode keeping ISO and aperture low whilst maintaining a correct shutter speed. However in dynamic situations I also occasionally use aperture priority or shutter speed priority just to be safe. In terms of editing, each photo is unique but if I was to recommend a preset, the matte preset in lightroom is a good one to go for.

Hey sorry for the very late reply. Each photo I’ve edited uniquely but they’re predominantly based off of the Lightroom matte preset. It’s a nice one to base your images off of

1:20 Ummm since its "EF-S" shouldn't the focal length still be 24 mm even on crop sensors?

Bivash Biswas no, as the mm is a fixed measure regardless of sensor. So a full frame camera will always get 24mm out of a 24mm lense (even if this specific lense here wouldn’t fit on a full frame) while a crop sensor cameras, you will have to calculate the crop factor
