Do you have Canon EF or EF-S Lenses but just got a new Canon EOS R series Mirrorless Body? Like the R10, R50, R100, RP, R, R3, R5, R6, R7, or R8? Not to worry! Canon has the Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapter which allows you to utilize your old Canon EF and EF-S series lenses on your new Mirrorless Body. The basic versions is called the EF-EOS R Adapter, and it is currently at a $129 price point, and can be found here: amzn.to/48ylx9Z
Instead of having to spend hundreds or thousands on new RF lenses for my EOS R50, I was able to utilize this adapter and get the same performance out of the lenses that I did on my old Canon DSLR body. Want a little more control for manual shooting? For a step up in price at $199, Canon has the adapter available with the control ring to, which can be found here: amzn.to/4aPqywJ
This advanced version incorporates a control ring that's the same as what is on native RF series lenses to give you control of aperture, exposure time, and ISO sensitivity.
I also go through lens compatibility with Canon lenses and whether after market lenses like Tamron, Sigma, Samyang, etc are compatible with this adapter.
I have many Canon EF and EF-S lenses that I love to shoot with like the Canon 24-105mm, 10-18MM, 50MM, 70-300MM, 100MM, and more, and this adapter allow me to still utilize them on an R Mirrorless camera.

I have the R7 with several EF lenses. With the EF-RF adapter they work better than ever. But I also have a Metabones 0.71x speedbooster EF-RF adapter. That gives me 1stop light gathering advantage and close to FF lens effective focal lenth. So I can have a 550mm F2.8 effective lens or a 800mm F4 from my 500 F4 is L for instance. Love it

While I agree that the EF lenses perform quite well with the adapter, and in some instances perform better thanks to the much better AF systems in the R mount cameras, the RF lenses are considerably better in every way. They are sharper, focus much better, have a lot less issues with CA, flaring etc....They are designed for mirrorless, not decades old designs for DSLRs. If you are just shooting snapshots of family, no need to buy RF lenses. However, if you are doing anything more serious, the RF lenses are going to be better. Ive switched to Nikon and Panasonic because Canon continues to shut 3rd party options out which is absurd. There are much more affordable options if you go with Nikon, Panasonic or Sony.

Some EF lenses CA/flare/sharpness is better than 3rd party E/Z. I don't see any problem of adapting. Too many "old" ef got hold back by DSLR capabilities. Now those lenses can shine again.

Yeah, we all know that there was nothing "serious" before RF or mirrorless in general, especially from EF.
@gavinjenkins899
@gavinjenkins899 6 ай бұрын
None of those things are true, unless you're comparing them to kit lenses and such. RF lenses are not sharper etc than good EF L lenses. For example, the EF 35mm L II f/1.4 is signficantly sharper than the RF 35mm 1.8 he mentioned in the video, according to MTF charts. And USM (which the 35/1.4 has) is almost always quicker than STM (which the RF has). I have the RF 35mm as well and it is slower to focus than all my EF USM lenses. It is faster than the non-USM ones though. I got the RF because of the bells and whistles, macro ability, etc. Not because it's sharpest. It isn't.

Hello! That employee is not correct, the EF and EF-S line is backwards compatible with the RF series mount on a full frame Canon mirrorless camera. It does apply a 1.6X crop, but otherwise shoots just fine! You can check out a good video on the subject here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibeDfMljyqvHYmw.html

It is not true that everything works the same. I've had about 1/5 of the lenses I've tried of third parties that have various problems on a mirrorless but not on a native EF. For example by Tamron 28-70 ATX Pro works fine on old DSLRs, but on my mirrorless R6 with adapter, every time I turn it off, if the lens is in autofocus it will horrible start grinding against the infinity focus trying to go further for some reason. They did NOT use identical interface software like they should have, clearly. A Quantaray 24mm I have also works fine on EF, but on mirrorless with adapter, gives a lens error any time it would need to move its aperture blades (not shooting wide open)

Canon R50, currently I have the 50mm, & ER-EOS R mount adapter. Will I be loosing quality using EF lenses? Can I also use a EFS lens with this mount? Quality of EFS lens? I'm looking for a telephoto lens, (on a budget). Does the multiple of 1.6 work for all used lenses in my search for secondhand EF & RF lenses?
@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 2 ай бұрын
No, you wont' be losing quality with EF lenses. Yes, you can use both EF and EF-S lenses with this mount, both are compatible. And yes, the multiplier would come into play for all (If you had a full frame R series it wouldn't). A good option given the crop on the R50 for an economical Telephoto lens would be the canon 55-250mm STM lens, one of my favorites to shoot with, you can find on the used market in the $125-150 range.
@ronjenkins4257
@ronjenkins4257 6 ай бұрын
One BIG point you haven't mentioned: adapting EF-S lenses to an RF full frame mirrorless body puts the camera into "crop" mode. Your shooting experience and view through the viewfinder (or on rear screen) will look like nothing is different from putting that EF-S glass on an APSC DSLR. (Of course, you couldn't put EF-S glass onto a full frame EF DSLR). But having adapted your EF-S lenses to the full frame RF body you will be shooting images drastically cropped, and, if your RF sensor is say 24.2 megapixels (R8, R6, R6 II, RF) you will be shooting images using only about 9 of those megapixels. You will get **much** higher resolution images from an old 24.2 megapixel APSC DSLR. Check your file sizes if you doubt this information. [A side note: some third party EF-S compatible lenses will not force an RF body into crop mode, but you will then get full sized images with huge vignette.] [Second side note: EF lenses will adapt just fine; their image circles are sized to cover a full frame sensor. The remarks above apply just to adapting EF-S lenses.]
@ronjenkins4257
@ronjenkins4257 6 ай бұрын
I don't know about the behaviour of adapting ES-S lenses to RF mount APSC mirrorless bodies. I would guess that this cropping wouldn't happen.
@gavinjenkins899
@gavinjenkins899 6 ай бұрын
I don't consider that to be an advantage. There were some APS-C lenses with image circles that almost covered full frame that you could use on a full frame (just use 4:5 aspect ratio), which you can't use nearly as well when it forces you to crop.
@ronjenkins4257
@ronjenkins4257 6 ай бұрын

Hey, I am using R50.. If I use EF lenses with adapter. Will crop factor apply? Or will my image/video quality decrease?
@ronjenkins4257
@ronjenkins4257 2 ай бұрын
@@devrjcreations5308 EF lenses adapted to an APSC body (R50 in your case) will not be cropped beyond the normal cropping that happens when a full frame image circle is projected onto a cropped sensor . . . the image is cropped. The issue is the other way around: a lens designed to project an image that will just fill an APSC sensor will not fill the entire area of a full frame sensor. In that circumstance the **camera** will crop down to the smaller image (for JPEGs). Raw images will still represent the full area of the sensor, but depending on your software you might not see the area of the sensor being eliminated by the camera's "cropping".

@pricklypearcamera
@pricklypearcamera 5 ай бұрын
Hi! That's a great camera! There are a few main benefits generally to Mirrorless, and it's mainly going to be upgraded 4k video capability, and much better autofocus capability. Most of Canon's R series mirrorless cameras have SUPERB eye tracking and face tracking, which may or may not be useful to you. In terms of using your old Canon Ef/EF-S lenses on a new mirrorless body, with this adapter, they will perform just as well, so it kind of comes down to which Mirrorless body you were looking at in terms of any benefit.

@musicman8942

Strictly speaking - not totally correct. What affects full frame versus crop is the sensor in the camera. So yeah - putting an EFS lens on a full frame camera like an EOS R6 will add a crop factor but putting that same lens on an R7 which is an apsc sensor camera does not add any additional crop factor.

I'm just sceptical investing in Canon, they aren't consistent. With each release they keep changing the hotshoe pin layout then the mounts from ef/efs to ef-m then decided to ditch that for rf I mean seriously what the f*ck is their problem? 🙄 The road to constantly buying adapters. Third party lens manufacturers will just give up on canon and we will be stuck with only canons lenses which they can dictate prices however they feel like. And slowly ef/efs will phase out. Sometimes you need to think ahead and their business strategy is what I don't like. Canon is becoming like Apple in the camera world. Locking you in a particular ecosystem at all means necessary.
