What's up everyone! I wanted to put this video together to help people decide between the Canon M6, SL2 and G7 X Mark II. Let me know what you think about this video and the format. Which features do you like and which are not important to you. I'm super interested in which of these cameras you think would be best for you and why. Grateful for your feedback as well, good or bad.

Hi Elvie, thank you for watching. Alright, so let's start with the basics, what will you be using the camera for?
@elviejalotjot42516 жыл бұрын
Tech Gear Talk oh you replied! Really! That’s awesome! Nyway, i really have this passion for photography. I want to take pictures like those pics of ocean, mountains, my daughter when she will have her taekwondo promotion. I want my camera to be handy but i want to learn also those with different lenses. Quite confusing right?
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Ok. So it doesn't sound like you'll be doing a lot of video, so an external mic input is not super important to you (but think about whether that is something you may want in the future). You can learn on any of them. They all have full auto mode AND they all have full manual mode where you have to choose the settings. They will also give you the ability to shoot aperture priority and shutter priority. Check out this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htt1adpyqdzScY0.html It's an early one that I created so I'm sorry if I talk a little slow :) As far as interchangeable lenses, it's not so confusing once you learn the basics, BUT, it is more expensive. The range on the G7 X MK II is usually good enough for beginners. Mostly people will want to go wider or add telephoto later on, which is the advantage of buying a camera with interchangeable lenses, so that you can continue to build. Once you watch that video, let's continue to answer any questions that you have.

Tech Gear Talk I ended up picking up the Canon SL2 earlier today from bestbuy (couldn't wait for shipping lol)🤗 Absolutley love it so far. I ended up going for it because of the remote connectivity for video and I like that it uses full size lenses. This was the perfect upgrade from my OG Canon Eos M. Now going to use my old M for a secondary cam / b roll and / time lapse shots. Thanks again for the awesome video! This will be a perfect camera for the fam 😊✌👊

@AlisonLinh6 жыл бұрын
Dude. You literally covered pretty much everything! Haha Oh, but actually I do have a question. Do all the cameras have the same low light filming capabilities?
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
The M6 and SL2 will do better in low light because of the larger sensor. Again, we're dealing with degrees here so "better" also is a question of how low is the light, etc. Can you give me an idea of a situation where you'll be recording? (because there is a lot to say for the size of the G7XMKII for vlogging)
@AlisonLinh6 жыл бұрын
Tech Gear Talk ah okay I see. That makes sense. Thanks! For now, just dimly lit restaurants, but eventually I'd like to use it for festivals and raves. Hi Sabrina! I'm so, so, so glad that this video was helpful to you. That is truly my goal. I know this is a big decision for people and I just hope I can make it a little easier. Yes, the SL2 is going to be awesome and you'll be able to re-purpose your existing lens (woohoo, save that money). Being able to use your cell phone to remotely monitor and shoot is awesome and is going to be so valuable to you! Great job on your channel by the way! I like the honesty and positive vibe you give off in your videos, and I appreciate that you get real even on super serious topics that some people avoid. I'm just starting out here so we'll see where this journey takes me. I would super appreciate you supporting the channel when you buy the camera, if that is possible :) What external mic do you use?

Some features of the G7XM2 that are rarely talked about: 1. Built-in 3-stop ND filter; helps you shoot wide open for better bokeh even in broad daylight 2. Spiral leaf shutter (YES!); gets you a flash sync speed of 1/2000 second, great for daylight or evening HSS shots 3. BSI-CMOS Sensor; Coupled with the fast F1.8 lens, gives unbeatable lowlight performance It does have cons like low contrast (compared to the APS-C lineup) and a weird greenish white balance that comes as default.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
VERY solid points. Thank you so much for taking the time to contribute. People who understand, appreciate the built in nd filter so much. In my C100mkii I use it all the time.

Can I ask you where you read that the g7xm2 has the Spiral leaf shutter?
@floridahiker15035 жыл бұрын
@@raspberry5286 . I was curious too. I read it on a DP forum. From what I read you can tell by the flash sync speed of 1/2000 for the g7x mk ii has a leaf shutter and 1/200 for the SL2 has a focal plane shutter. The Sony a6300 flash sync speed is 1/160. G1X MK III is 1/2000. Focal plane shutters can't sync flash at fast speeds but the manuals don't say leaf or focal plane so its confusing.

@AdityaYadav-wf2lx6 жыл бұрын
Well like everyone else, I too started off with the canon. But slowly as I looked and read up more about cameras, I found out sony is equally in par with canon. Being a sound designer, the main use of my camera will be to document the field sound recordings which I do. Some of which do take place in low light conditions. The canon sl2 has everything that I need. From external mic input, to flipscreen and a great auto focus capability. I don't really care about 4k although the fact that sony is providing me all these features (minus the flipout screen) plus 4k capabilities and better low light performance, I feel sony (a6300 to be specific) is a better option to go with. If I may request, I'd love to see a comparison between the Canon sl2 and the Sony a6300 on your channel sometime in the future. :)
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
I'm actually reviewing the A6500 now. I'll get to the a6300. I would definitely recommend that you first get you hand on the Sony and the SL2 and see which "feels" better. Don't always go by specs. I'm not saying not to get the a6300 but only that you should be careful about just comparing specs. If you're always behind the camera, the flipout screen won't really matter to you. I really like the touch screen on the SL2, I don't believe the a6300. I'm impressed with the a6500 so far and I will definitely create a video for the a6300 when I get a chance. I need more time!! :) Autofocus is not as fast on the 6500 vs the Canon (0.05 vs 0.03) but I probably only notice that because I';m used to the Canon. Sony also has 120 fps so that's nice for slo-mo.

Super insightful comments. The adapter is a great option (kinda $$$$ though) and really opens up the possibilities. The electronic view finder is pretty cool, but I'll be interested if you feel like you're missing it once you've used the camera for a while without it. Personally, since I'm used to having one, I think I'd miss it....but I thought I would miss the headphone jack on my iPhone 7 Plus until I got the Airpods :D

Thanks for the great review. These are the 3 cameras I've been looking at for Video and pictures. Lack of mic port drops the G7 out of the running. I'm really torn between the M6 and SL2. SL2 gets a slight edge because I don't need an adapter for other lenses in the future, view screen angles, and not blocking the top mount. M6 i like better for the size but the advantages of the SL2 are hard to overlook. SL2 wins for me (unless I get the 77D) I only want one camera but these are tough decisions!

Great comparison video. Clean format, organized (nice temporary sidebar outline) where I can fast forward to points of interest, and big fan of the insight of the stuff that's NOT written - how the canon app changes interaction with camera's operation was valuable for me.

Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment. I'm very happy that the video provided value to you. Thank you for the feedback regarding the sidebar outline, I wasn't sure how people feel about it so it's great to get feedback. I'm unsure as to why the app does work the same way for call cameras, hopefully Canon will fix that. Which one was the best fit for you?
@truce116 жыл бұрын
I like the size of the G7X mkII but the SL2's audio in jack and larger sensor with fully articulated screen are more compelling. Truthfully I could make both work, but still researching audio options (not sure I'm sold on the Rode VideoMicPro / Shure VP83 - I like the richness of typical shotgun, yet I've discovered the super/hyper cardiod condensers may be better suited for indoor recording minimizing ambience/echo... Then again, I enjoy many YT videos that use the Rode). Other note: While sidebar is nice, I much prefer time stamps listed in the description so the outline is readily visible and I can just go straight to the information I need.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Adding timestamps in the description is SUCH A GOOD IDEA!!!! I will definitely do that. I agree with your assessment of the mic choices and ultimately audio is subjective and so much of it has to do with post production processing. The only way to find out is to try something out and hear the results. You're right, I think that for someone with the level of knowledge you're exhibiting in your comments, the SL2 is a better choice. You'll outgrow the G7X MKII and wish you had the upgraded sensor and mic input. When you end up making a purchase, let me know how it works out for you. Thanks again for the timestamp idea!

You're welcome! I'm primarily looking to invest in quality gear with as much high returns in the investment without spending too much. Also I think I'm more in the camp of wanting to create with a workflow that's simple in efficiency. I don't want to spend hours editing and changing settings to correct color and etc - I'd rather just invest in a great mic and camera and editing program where I can film, edit within predictable time frame, and then upload with confidence. In fact, I don't think there's enough workflow videos for prospective viewers. Lot of camera reviews and comparisons, but not enough workflows that suit guys like me.

I'm completely aligned with you. You have to remove as much friction from the production/editing process as possible. Anything else is just an unnecessary obstacle. I started a series designed to help creators and will continue with it when I have time. I have not gotten to the actual process yet because I think strategy goes first. If you have time, check it out. kzfaq.info/sun/PL9Y8hNm43poKsaMfWacWrJwVzT2BpYNxJ It's directed at KZfaqrs but the concepts apply to any creative process

Thank you very much, This have been the Best review by far as seen on these cameras, And of course I subscribed, I have a KZfaq channel, And I'm thinking about upgrading to the SL2, Because of the smartphone control when you're videotaping, I was wondering if this camera could pick up the shine when you're filming shinier materials, The camera that I use right now doesn't, So I don't know if it's the lens, The camera, Or the settings, If you have any idea what would give me shine let me know, Thanks.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
If control is your number one priority, you may want to look at the M50 (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otuJiZOVud7Th3k.html). As far was "shine", can you give me an example. What are you shooting with now? Thank you so much for watching and supporting the channel!
@LuAnnSkaggs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your response, I have created a short video to show you the shine, And the camera that I use, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n6mhoNFh1tSdh5c.html
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Ok, that helps! 1. You can control with both the SL2 and the M50 (that I linked to). The M50 has full control and the SL2 will have pretty good control over the video (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jauBp6tpzc6clIE.html). The M50 lets you change focus point which is really nice. 2. As far as the shine. That I think has to do with 2 things. Lighting and exposure. With these cameras, you'll be able to better control exposure (and you'll also have better dynamic range). If you need help understanding exposure, check this out: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htt1adpyqdzScY0.html I made it for photography but the same holds true for video. I hope this is being helpful. one of the best comparisons in youtube. things should be discussed more in this video: lenses performances, G7x got a fast lenses which is incredible for low light even better than most lenses we can buy from M6 and SL2. for M6, you can use EF-M lenses. Focus peaking only available in M6 and G7x
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the kind words. OUTSTANDING point regarded lens performance. I'm pretty sure I discuss it in the detailed review but it was definitely something I should have mentioned here. For this price point having a 1.8 - 2.8 lens is killer. To your point, lenses that would compare to that, for the SL2 would be out of the range of the budget for most users would buy that camera. Focus peaking is also a good point and definitely a feature I did not mention. I SO VERY MUCH appreciate your feedback!! It's the only way I can make better reviews. Thank you for taking the time. What do you use?
@luckynever82086 жыл бұрын
I got a G7xm2 and a 600d and planning to buy a new m6/sl2/t7i. For those who do not need an external mic while vlogging, g7x series is really a fantastic choice. M6 does have some advantages when it comes to lenses, size, weight and portability compared to dslr, the focus peaking maybe quite useful when it comes to manual lenses too. However when it comes to video quality, nothing compared to your C100 M2 4k. :) For a complete package, i guess i have to wait until Canon hit 4k in their consumer markets maybe 2019/2020.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
I also think the g7X is a great option if you don't need an external mic. It's so compact, you can easily throw it in your pocket and go anywhere. And I do believe that most people won't need other lenses (maybe it would be nice to go a little wider for handheld, but you can always hold a small tripod to add a little distance. Do you think 4k is that important? I think it may still be 5 years away from being widely used.
@luckynever82086 жыл бұрын
Yea a little wider does help a lot for most vloggers but they are usually very slow lenses that may not be that ideal for low light videography. I don't think 4k will be that widely used anytime soon in consumer level because most flagships smartphones are still 1080p/1440p. It will take like you mentioned 5-10 years for majority of people to jump into the 4k boat. However, 4k is quite important for mid to high end productions, you can crop and spilt shots, the professional look just cannot be done without 4k. I think you got a lot of potential to be a big tech reviewer in the future. Your in-depth reviews are really helpful for potential buyers like me. One thing I would definitely like to see are footages comparisons (mainly video quality ,audio quality and low light performances) between the cameras.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Thank you again, I had a similar sense about the footage. I will make sure I do more of that! Audio and low-light performance are great ideas!
@derekrobbins67356 жыл бұрын
New subscriber and credit where credit is due, your review was very complete and informative! I want to start vlogging, mainly outdoors and often windy so stabilisation and external audio is probably high on the list. - Does the G7XMkll have wind cancellation built in or is it not the same kind of reduction as an external mic.? - The SL2 doesn't have image stabiliser but does have a faster auto focus. With a 3 axis Gimbal does that equal or better image stabilisation? - How does the GoPro 6 compare with these 3 cameras.? - Do you notice the difference with weight of all 3 cameras?
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words Derek! 1. if audio quality is important, and you don't plan on using an external recorder, get rid of the G7XMKII (I love that camera, but that is a weakness) 2. You're always going to want a 3 axis gimbal (if you can afford one). The in-body image stabilization in cameras is nowhere near as good as what the gimbal will provide. 3. no GoPro 4. Sure. The G7XMKII is so small and light. You'll definitely notice a difference. I would not get the M6 at this point but look at the M50 instead: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otuJiZOVud7Th3k.html Does this help?

Tech Gear, that helps a lot! To be honest, your reviews to date are exactly what the beginner to intermediate (me) requires, so as to eliminate expensive mistakes!. Simple things like the external mic attached on the M6 but cant use the flip screen is a point we wouldn't consider until it is too late! I'm leaning towards the SL2, have already watched your in depth review. I especially like the fact that in the future, it is possible to insert a different lens and that total weight is still just 2lbs! Good shout regarding the Gimbal, which type would you recommend? Also what would you recommend for a wind reduction external mic.? I appreciate your fast response, keep the reviews coming! Have you done any video editing reviews yet? If so what do you use or recommend?

I'm glad. The SL2 video has some gimbals in the description. Also check out the MOZA Air or Air cross from Gudson. (I'll add links soon) As far a a mic, look at Rode and make sure you get a deadcat. The Rode VideoMic Pro+ is awesome if it's in your budget. If you want to wait a few days, I'm reviewing their whole line of videomics and will publish soon. Video editing reviews? The review is absolutely great! It hits the key spots, not only the well-known specs. Thank you so much! P.S.: if you have time to answer the comments, it would be great to learn if there is a really huge gap between the low-light performance of G7X II and SL2 + Kit (18-55). My aim is mostly macro video shooting in not always good light conditions, and i'm really afraid of too much noise if i choose the SL2...
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind comments. Are you more worried about low-light with the SL2 than the G7XMKii? The SL2 has a larger sensor (better at low light) and will allow you to get better macro lenses (of course they are very expensive)

Tech Gear Talk Thank you so much for your reply! I do understand that 1.8 or even 2.8 lenses will save me but the question is exactly about how drastically the G7X II is better than the DL2 !with the Kit lense! in low light. Is there a HUGE gap?

Hi, I just got a M6. I can connect it to a Mac and download the images using Canon EOS Utility. However, I can't find the remote shooting function in the new EOS Utility 3. There seems to be no way to control the camera from a computer via USB. I also tried the EOS utility 2, which looks more like the old EOS utility, but it wouldn't even recognize the M6. If this is the case, it's a step backward considering that a old EOS 7D can be operated remotely. Any ideas? I am still hoping that I may be doing something wrong.

Great comparison, building nicely on the original in depth reviews. I’m curious about how you rigged the jobs tripod/flash plate on the M6. Mine refuses to lock out without something between the jobs and the extension plate.? Second question, what are you capturing your footage on with all three in your hands? How does that setup compare? For me, the M6 was my first choice - just better bang for the money compared to the gx7 . Sl2 wasn’t out and I added an 80d to the mix. ( be great to see you review the m6, 80d and 6D mark 2 as a level up.... and then the 6d2 , 5d4 and a 1dx2 at the premium end...😁
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter. Thanks for the feedback. I start out by putting the mic on the flash plate so that I know how much space I have to work with. Then, I attach the Joby plate to the bottom of the other screw on the bracket (the one that slides). It has a 1/4 20 socket on the bottom. Then I put the M6 on and tighten it, then put it on the Joby. AND I just realized how easy this would be to show you in a video so please let me know if that made any sense at all! I capture footage with a couple of C100MKIIs. It doesn't really compare to be honest. I'd be putting up cinema cameras with lenses that cost more than any of the setups in that review with a small DLSR and 2 mirrorless cameras. So it's just not fair. At the same time, the setup I use is not portable or light. I would be super annoyed if I had to drag it around with me. The tripods are heavy, so are the cameras and the lenses. So they aren't really meant for the same use. I'll tell you what, I would love to have dual-pixel autofocus with tracking, but I would need to upgrade to C200s.... so.... unless 2 of those fall out of the sky... The M6 is a great choice for sure. I'll see if I can get my hands on the cameras you mentioned as I continue to add reviews this year. Again, as always, I very much appreciate the feedback 🙏

I would like to ask you some tips: I want to buy my first good or semiprofessional camera right now. I'm so glad i found this video. I didn't realize the limitation of video control with the M6 when using the Canon connect app. Do you know if the M100 has the same video functionality on the app as the SL2? I was planing on getting the M100 but if it also has the limitations on the app for video control, i will get the SL2. Great channel.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Glad the review was helpful. I don't know about the M100 because I haven't played around with it yet (if you forced me to guess, I would guess no....) If that's a critical feature for you than I would go with the Sl2. I still can't believe they left that out. SMH. Thank you for the compliment about the channel. I'm just starting out so I'm happy to see that it's being valuable. What will you use the camera for?
@benhizzle6 жыл бұрын
I may decide to go with the M100 due to its very compact size even if it lacks the video control features on the app. I hope you get a chance to review the M100, i would love to see your thought on it. The SL2 still may be the one i go with seeing how it is also a pretty small body as well. And then there is the new M50 to consider as well. I want to make videos that will mostly be me in a controlled setting in front of the camera taking a look at statues and art pieces, but i also attend a lot of conventions and shows that i thought the smaller size of the M100 would be more convenient for shooting video on the go.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
That makes sense to me. The SL2 is still pretty small but of course, not as small as the M6 or M100 of course but it's not bad. The M50 looks awesome, 4K will be nice, but 120fps is only at 720P.... I need to start an online collection box so that I can buy these cameras to review them :D

The quality would be similar. If I showed you 10 pictures and 10 clips, you wouldn't know which came from which camera. EF/EF-S lenses give you a lot more options. Sigma now makes 3 good ef-m lenses which is nice.

You are very welcome. I'm glad that you liked it. Which camera did you like best?

I like the SL2 given the lens options and the sensor. I am beginner and I also felt the SL2 would greatly assist.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Yup, the lens options are a big reason to go with the SL2! The M50 is also a good option: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otuJiZOVud7Th3k.html

Excellent video! Thank you for uploading. With the M6 and SL2 having Bluetooth, can you also use a Bluetooth remote to start and stop videos and take pictures?
@TechGearTalk5 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome. Glad it was helpful. You can only control video remotely with the SL2. If you want to control video for a mirrorless camera, check out the M50 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otuJiZOVud7Th3k.html

Very informative comparison video and well presented. I have a question if you can answer please... Do any of the cameras have the feature to shoot panoramic photos?
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and for the feedback. I am not 100% confident but I have not been able to find that feature in any of these.

@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
The SL2 will let you build and add lenses later. You will also have the option to use an external microphone (either now or in the future).

700D or SL2, which will be better for amateur photography? plz let me know.

Both are good choices. If it were me, I would get the SL2. Larger sensor, newer processor, smaller, lighter

Good review. What camera did you use to record this review & what settings if possible? Your image comes out very crisp and clear on my 48in OLED. Many thanks.

I use a Canon C100 MK II and I'll have to do a video about my settings if I get enough Subscribers that are interested. I'm super glad that the image looks good on such a large screen!!! Thank you for letting me know and for the kind words!!

Tech Gear Talk - Thanks for your prompt reply. Interesting that you shoot with the C100 II. Can you also tell me what 'picture profile' you use on the camera? Thanks again.
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome. Why do you say that (strange)? The picture profile depends on my settings. Sometimes it's standard and sometimes it's Wide DR. I rarely use a custom one for KZfaq. What do you shoot with?
@pmfilmsUK6 жыл бұрын
Tech Gear Talk - Much appreciate your feedback. I use the same camera but don't get a clean image like yours. Hence the questioning (strange!). I use Canon C-Log and grade in post. However for your purposes I guess time is of essence and it would take most of your time in post which you don't want to do. You're doing a great job by the way. I'm always on the look out for good content and great clean picture... which is what took my interest in the first place. Look forward to seeing more of your interesting reviews. Many thanks.

That is strange... what lenses are you using? Agree with you re: spending too much time grading in post Thank you for the input! I am still learning and trying new things with this channel so I'm super happy to see that there is positive reaction to where I am now.

How'd you compare the aperture of G7X and standard lens of M6?
@TechGearTalk6 жыл бұрын
it's a complicated question because of the difference in sensor size. You would have to divide by the crop factor. Essentially, at the same "aperture number" the G7xmkii is getting less light. (crop factor is 2.73 for g7xmkii and 1.6 for m6
