G’day!
This video is made with thanks to all of the people who came along for the EPIC Maytown trip!
With 9 vehicles in convoy, this was going to be a test to get through the HARDEST track in Australia. It may look sedate in some of the clips, but no camera can prepare you for just how difficult the Old Coach Rd is.
Great job to everyone!
#capeyork #hard4x4 #bfgoodrich
Cheers
Keithy

Loving the video and partaking in my bad habit of commenting while watching. When I was a local, I worked for a bus company out of Cooktown. We would regularly run our express services in 22-seat Coaster buses up and down the Bloomfield Track in the dry. I hear they've put more concrete on the big hills recently. I've also driven a '95 Falcon wagon and a VN Commodore with a country pack up and down it. As for the CREB track, it was 1982 last time I went up that track.

That’s an impressive story Brad! You must have seen some incredible changes over the years you were there. There’s definitely more of the concrete patches on the climbs nowadays. Definitely hasn’t changed how steep the drive is!

I lived up in FNQ many years ago, and somewhat recently. In 1982, much of the Mulligan Highway wasn't much better than the Old Coach Road. Lots of harsh bedrock and bulldust patches hiding big holes. I recall helping a bloke on the side of the road who'd popped a ball joint on his Falcon wagon. Wired it together with fencing wire so he could limp along to civilisation.

You must have many great stories to tell from your time up north! It’s definitely changed a lot now - like yourself I remember the mulligan as a dirt road from many years ago. It’s impressive to see the changes over the years.

@@Keithy_W I'm glad it hasn't changed too much compared to Cairns City. I do love the Far North, and I'll be back up there permanently next year I hope.

I had a beautiful swim in that dam at the "Granite".

Was it deep at all? I couldn’t gauge the depth while we were there.

@@Keithy_W i quickly couldnt touch the bottom and with the dead trees i wasnt going to try. I actually swum a long way to a dead tree poking up and climbed it. I was generally careful because there could be dead trees just below the surface. Partly due to the swim i regarded that as the best campsite on the whole coach road trip. I dont think there are any crocodiles in there and i gave them plenty of chance to find me, but i personally cant guarantee anything.

Clickbait title. Not the hardest track in australia by a long shot.

Not a hard track

While I agree, for you or me it’s not hard, someone watching this vid with next to no 4wd experience might attempt it under the premise that ‘Keithy said it’s not hard’ and damage their 4wd. Gotta think about the masses sometimes when labeling vids 👍

@@Keithy_W I fully disagree this is a next to no experience drive and at no point did I state you should change the name to it’s not hard . Misleading people with a false headline is way worse. I did however enjoy your video

Not sure we’re talking about the same track mate! The old coach road is a day in low range, hill climbs that challenge any 4wd without a locker, long and rough as they come. To anyone who’s just bought a 4wd and new to 4wding this is bloody terrible! I remember my first time up it all those years ago, it kept me on my toes. What I’m getting at, not everyone is an off-road expert, so I’d be misleading to put a title that says “easy” - that would be a complete lie. Cheers for the feedback either way mate 👍

@@Keithy_W no worries, we are def talking about the same track very basic slow track fun but not hard. I think you have mislead what I was saying So I will try another way. do not state it’s one of the hardest tracks maybe try A day in low on the old coach road. If your that worried about someone with no experience then state what tyres you have what gear your using what tyre pressures. Suspension/ what weight you have. It’s not an attack please don’t take it personally Just a difference in opinion.

Sounds good mate, perhaps I did misunderstand you there. Either way, there’s nothing wrong with a healthy debate. Definitely not taken as an attack 👍
