I have no experience in anything related to fifo but I I can easily learn. My only concern is that I am not an Australian and my English level is not really good. I have studied a totally different thing Compute Science but I want to get any fifo job before I proceed doing anything else. Do you think you could give an advice or something? I can see a solar farm worker or a drilles is a good options as a beginner. Also having a working holiday visa the best choice of foreigners is to start working in a farm since it is considered easier to be accepted there.
@Keithy_W14 күн бұрын
G’day mate, I’d say your best bet is your search. “Entry Level mining roles” would have to be the most simple way into the industry. You won’t need any special skills, but you will have competition, so you want to be able to sell yourself and be happy to give anything a go (they will train you). Also look for “shutdown work”. Getting into the mines, they’ll be looking at workers willing to work longer-term, unless you can find a short contract job to suit how long you plan to be on the job.

You’d need to meet the trade requirements in Australia to get the full job, so I’d say there will be trade specific training to match, that would be the hardest part. I’m sure someone else can add to that, but you’re well on the way to being there. Sorry @Kamov, I can’t convert yours to English for some reason. Help Some 2 1/2 years ago I was held at the train crossing when the revs increased by about 300rpm, stayed there for a minute or two then returned to normal. This progressed to jumping 300rpm whilst driving at a steady speed up to a position where it was almost undrivable. In my worst experience, everything was fine until for 20 miles when the revs jumped to 3000rpm with only the slightest of pressure on the accelerator. this persisted for 5 miles then cleared and everything was fine. I replaced the MAP, ERG, crank position and throttle position sensors without success, although the engine did run a bit smoother. I also had access to a second ECU which again did not help. Then unrelated, the water pump broke and I had to be recovered. On explaining this running problem to the recovery man he said 'It's your turbo they stick' So whilst I had the front of the car out to replace the water pump I also refurbished the turbo but this did not completely resolve the condition so I replaced the MAF sensor with a recovered part and the car worked fine for over a year. Recently the problem returned and as I had expected the recovered MAF to fail I fitted a new MAF sensor which has not done anything for me. So I have been thinking that the problem has to be electronics as this occurs less than 10% of the running time. Did I do something unbeknown when I fitted the water pump and refurbished the turbo?
@Keithy_WАй бұрын
G’day Laurie, thanks for singing out. Sounds like you’ve got a recurring problem. It’s not happy, and progressing gets worse. They’re very difficult to hunt down when they play these games because it could be a multitude of things. They can be very frustrating. You’ve done the right thing to use a process of elimination. Sadly, the issue is still there. I’d only be guessing, being a diesel is also a different ball game to me, but nonetheless the symptoms can be applied both ways. If it were me I’d be looking at an air leak in the engine’s intake system. It sounds like it only happens occasionally, so perhaps an intake line/pipe after the throttle body. I’m not sure if the diesels have an “idle air intake valve” like the V8’s, but I’d be starting there. Like with the air suspension, you can use soapy water to find a system leak for the engine intake system too, so when the high idle issue returns, you can give it a spray to locate the leak. The rpm will drop when it meets the sprayed water. Otherwise mate, I hope it’s nothing too crazy!! Hope life been of some assistance.

I'd want to get an RV and with all the necessary amenities and also saves you paying thousands in rent when you can use that to put a down-payment on a house, buy a cheap car and live within your means while saving shit ton of money. While others are blowing their money on traveling, cars and other expensive shit and falling into debt, you on the other hand have the comfort of knowing your way ahead of the game saving up thousands of dollars for the future because we all have retire one day and unlike the others you have a big pool of money to fall back on

@Keithy_WАй бұрын
G’day mate, yes and no is the right answer here. Firstly, if hired in Australia for a mining job, you will have to do the VISA thing and live in Australia to be considered for a job in the industry. You will also require the skills to apply for whichever job you apply for as well - they do not simply employ people randomly. Skills play a very big part in finding work in the industry, plus there is quite a lot of competition for mining jobs. Just to be clear - if you got a job in the Australian mining industry, they will not pay workers to live in a different country. You will need to live in Australia.

@Keithy_WАй бұрын
Thanks mate, much appreciated. That’s a good question. There will surely be a few mines offering an apprenticeship on FIFO. It might be a good idea to have a good google to see what you can find - I can’t say I’ve had this question before! I know often the mines try to move apprentices close to the site until they’ve done their time. Jump on google and see what you can find. Keep in mind that they generally try to get their apprentices before the start of the annual intakes. I reckon you’re on a winner, just keep at it and have a regular look on seek.com and some of the mining companies’ websites to see what you can find 👍🏻
@Anthony-fq9ctАй бұрын
Cheers Keithy. Just another question mate. What do FIFO diesel mechanics do with their toolbox. Is it kept on site. Or does it have to be transported every FIFO roster? Out of all the possible mining jobs, are diesel mechanics still in good demand with a lot of work available? Cheers for your previous detailed response as well
@Keithy_WАй бұрын
If you’re on one site each roster, they will have a locker where you can keep stuff like your tool kits, that’ll save having to carry them each roster. Yes you’re right, diesel mechanics are a pretty good job to go for. Once you’re in - you’re in!
@Anthony-fq9ctАй бұрын
Thanks again keithy. So with heavy diesel in the mining industry would they take someone with experience working on trucks like you see on the road, or are they after people who have been plant mechanics? Am I also right to assume that a lot of equipment in the mining industry not go electric anytime soon (as opposed to cars which are constantly changing)? Thanks again mate
@Keithy_WАй бұрын
Good question mate. You won’t need to have experience operating machinery, as there are a lot of positions lately in the mining industry. You will still have to sell yourself though, as there’s still a market and they will look for the best candidates they can find. There is already quite a lot of electric mining equipment. There are heaps, in fact, but at this stage there are not millions of mines adapting them.
