Captain Cook is so weird to me. i'm a completely disinterested party (i have no dog in the fight) but i can't find a definitive answer to the simple question "did Captain Cook sell slaves?" The closest thing to an answer i could find was "there are no records of Captain Cook buying or selling slaves directly, but he helped create the slave trade as a whole." Now i'm more confused. Did he create a system he knew would lead to buying and selling human slaves? did he not know what he was doing? Somewhere in between? If i do have a bias, it falls on the side of thinking people born before 1800 were probably ok with slavery.
