Honestly saying Carol Danvers has had it rough on this show is a bit of a understatement

This is a fun story. Carol's cool "Evil" suit, Steve's trust of Carol, Thompson's humous dialogue, "Why are they all naked" cracks me up for some reason, and Carol's solution has a Silver Age vibe to it. It kinda reminds me of JLA: A league Of One.

I just find it refreshing to see something involving Carol like this. Even if it isn't a masterpiece.

OK I won't lie, The title card in this episode probably one of the best title cards I've seen in AT4W so far, Good job Viga.

I know Kelly Thompson's Captain Marvel run just ended, but it's definitely Carol's best since the Kelly Sue DeConnick issues. Hell it even works her CWII/SE issues into the story well.

My guess on the whole "Why couldn't Vox detect X?" thing is that he could only hear the sound waves that hit the suit, but couldn't really know what was happening around her other than speech. So her gathering the clones could easily sounded like prep-work for her fights. But going into the pocket dimension severed the connection to where Vox just couldn't hear anything.

How awkward would it have been if this villain wanted Caral to kill the core Avengers only for them to already be dead because of random comic shenanigans? Also was Tony still an AI when this happened or was that reversed by time this happened? Or has it not been reversed yet?

For what it is worth, Carol seems to be on a bit of a good upswing now. Her recent run with Kelly Thompson was fantastic and some of the best character work done in years. The new Avengers run also has Carol as the leader and so far it has been quite the ride and she is showing she is good in the role. So in spite of all the crap given to her over the years, least she has an optimistic future.

Fun Wholesome fact for Carol: Ever wonder WHY they changed her outfit from the swimsuit to the one she's known for now adays? The writer (or artist can't remember) wanted to change her outfit because he had a young daughter at the time and if by chance, she would get into comics through Carol and maybe dress up like her, he didn't want his child to wear the og outfit but something better appropriate cause, you know she was a kid at the time. and while I love Carol's Ms.Marvel outfit, I totally get where they were coming from and thought that was a wholesome reason to make such a change and not "Yeah i'm changing the outfit because i'm trying to support feminists and the OG outfit is sooooo degrading"

Oh yeah I remember this storyline this was the story where Captain marvel pretend to be evil and killed the avengers clones to infiltrate a evil organization it was a crazy story that was really funny but also dark humor at least in my opinion. :)

I wonder if Cap saying “I yield” is a play on his old cartoon theme song. Also, Carol wielding Mjolnir and Cap’s shield at the same time makes me wanna see her go one on one with Superman.

Captain Marvel is a good character, I swear. That said, her biggest pop culture reference before the movies was being in a coma and giving Rogue her super strength and flight, along with being so pissed off about that that Prof X had to help Rogue 'seal' her evil side up inside Rogue's mind. Also...I know it's a stretch, and you didn't do it for Hank Pym, but couldn't you do both for her Secret Origin month? After all, she's a side character in her first appearance, not even the villain of the piece like Black Widow.

What really irritates me is that a lot of people use Carol's poor depictions in the comics as an excuse to hate on every iteration of her before they've even given them a chance.

Singularity first appeared in the A-Force tie-in for the 2015 Secret Wars event, and the also showed up in the A-Force ongoing that spun out of that event. Haven't really caught up on what she's been up to after that though. Although I always imagined Hyden Welch (Starfire from the Teen Titans cartoon) voicing her (same with Viv Vision, oddly. I guess I just like her voice). Also, PLEASE say the 2015 Secret Wars will be in the next Event Comics Month. I love that book, one of the few great Marvel events, in my opinion.

When it comes to merging two villains in one on the Marvel side, i think Bastion was the best result because the components (Nimrod and Master Mold) while absolutely iconic in their designs (can't argue with the King) faired ok at best in personality and motivation, while their fusion was pretty much THE de facto ultimate sentinel menace for the X-Men. -Teo

The Kelly Thompson run of Captain Marvel is arguably the best the character has had. But this is not the best arc in the book.

Gotta be honest, I had to look up if Captain Crypto was a real supervillain because I wouldn't put it past Marvel have a character based around NFTs.

At the very least, this episode managed to show Carol when she's actually a good character, which is all was really needed. There's nothing specifically wrong with her generally but she does seem to have unfortunately been involved in a lot of stinkers, so it's nice to at least be reminded that she CAN be used well

I remember jumping into this story at the part where Carol confronts Steve and being so confused Then I went back and read the rest and I think its crazy that they actually teased the death of ALL of the Avengers because there's no way Marvel would do that

Oh God, I honestly forgot that this was around the time when She-Hulk basically became "Hulk with boobs." Wasn't this also around the same time Jason Aaron made that one Avengers issue with the scene where he basically said (through Jen, by the way) that his take on She-Hulk was better than her classic "sexier" portrayal and it then backfired SPECTACULARLY because she reverted back to her old self at the end of the run? Good times.

I actually like this storyline a lot, even if the villain is kinda boring. A good 7.5/10, it's better than what we get here most of the time! Yay! And as someone who doesn't really know Captain Marvel too much, this is great! It's good, it gave me a bit of a glimpse of what a good Carol story is like, and it was sweet to see things ending well. Nice. Also next review is gonna be a manga… time for me to get my anime t-shirts ready

I bought this story aclrc simply for Carols outfit. I was not disappointed

So, rewatching this video, I'm reminded once again of the terrifying implications of Carol absorbing the energy from Jen's brain to incapacitate her. Like, I had no idea at the time Carol could do that (originally just thought she only emitted energy and had flight powers till I checked the wiki and confirmed energy absorption was part of her powerset) so it all came out of nowhere for me. Not to mention that removing the electricity from someone's brain could potentially cause severe brain damage and death. Like, Jesus, Carol!! As someone who has a superhero OC from a tabletop campaign who also has energy absorption powers, I hope I never see a scenario where my character is turned evil. Imagine the implications...

Something that always bothers me with "hero gone evil" stories is how "accepting" the other heroes always are. Like we have literal clones here, and no one even seems to ever bring up the possibility in such stories about them being clones, mind controlled or whatever, things they all clearly encountered before. It always feels odd, but hey, comic books are comic books.

I admit, I'm not the biggest Carol Danvers. Nothing really against her, I just don't find her that interesting. Kind of like Hal Jordan. But man has she been done dirty over the years. Especially in Avengers #200. I'm really glad they actually addressed that in comics.

I would love for the MCU to give us a sentient pocket universe. Crazy? Sure. But so was a talking raccoon and sentient tree

Does anyone else think that the reveal that Carol wasn't actually killing the Avengers came way too early? It would have been better and more suspenful if they kept that hidden for longer.

So what's funny is, I've recently read Secret Wars and the tie-in to it A-Force So I actually know who Singularity is, and that's a fun use of her.

This whole story feels very contrived. Especially most of the stuff with Vox Supreme. But yes, this story does show a better side of Carol than Avengers 200 and Civil War II.

Linkara said that Vox Supreme first appeared in this story arc, but he actually first appeared in the Death of the Inhumans. And Singularity dates back to the A-Force ANAD run.

Honestly, if we were going to do a good snapshot of Carol Danvers, it would be issues 1-5 of the original KSD run.

Around when I first heard about this story, one of the most recurring responses I had stumbled across was variations on "FINALLY! Why did it take so long for this villain to drop the hero pretense"? Kind of reminds me of something Linkara brought up about the Guardians of Oa in his "Blackest Night" review. And the matter was not helped by comments complaining about Carol wielding Mjolnir as a sign of her "being handed everything without any consequences or character". This was also around when I stumbled across comments from people who felt like Jen Walters was stripped of her unique identity and reduced to a female clone of her cousin for reasons focused entirely on the way she looks. (Makes me wonder how long it will take before someone uses the Patreon slot to pay Linkara for his take on what happened to Jen. But I digress.) So yeah, I struggle to think about this comic without thinking about those comments and the headaches surrounding Carol Danvers. The movie that came out in 2019 only helped so much. I enjoyed watching it well enough when I went to the theater, but it had its own controversial reception around that time. Especially the actress playing Carol Danvers. And I shot my mouth off about it in such a way that it still haunts me whenever I think about Brie Larson. Point is, I don't like the way the thing between my ears viewed Carol Danvers in 2019.

i feel bad for all the Carol Danvers fans when a "it's ok at worst, decent at best" is something they have to showcase but yeah is nice to see a Heroes punching Heroes plot where they can have the cast be smart for once... also the Avengers of all teams live together, they're the ones who should be able to just disagree maturely

I know this is a coincidence, but a sound-based villain who's taken out by a device that dampens their frequency and a hero who ends up being on the side of the bad guys unintentionally and has to apologize reminds me a lot of A Voice from the Dark.
