Car Tablet Mount (DIY)

I've never liked the window suction mounts for phones and tablets so I designed a pretty simple tablet/iPad bracket for a 2005 Mustang. The parts are just aluminum U-channel and flat stock that can be found in any hardware store. The thumb screws were just lying around in the junk drawer. I have a few more ideas to make this mount a little cleaner and stronger; stay tuned. A plasti-dip coating would look pretty good too. Thanks for taking a look.

Gonna have brackets either sides of the table too so only I need to do is slide it in from the top and won't fall out when I'm off Road

3:00 you put something between the side screws and your car column, so the screws don't damage the car? It keeps steady by side pressure then, is that it? tx m8.

Not a bad idea man. A little abusive and takes away from the OEM look though. Just a suggestion, make two small plates that this bar attaches to on each end and those plates can mount onto OEM mount inside. That would work for a flush OEM look if the OEM stereo is removed, else u still can use the same idea over the OEM like u have here but u won't have to mount the outer bar to the bezel this way. Hey Fabio. Thanks for your comments I do appreciate folks sharing their thoughts on these projects. This design was not my best but sometimes just going through the process creates better ideas. Some folks have been pretty harsh on this video. It's all good though. After this build I made an insert that holds the tablet better and looks pretty good. Put magnets in the base that will work with the iPad's built in magentic screen protector mount system. 2nd. Instead of using flat stock, u should notch the u-channel on the back and bottom to size. Leaving the front face longer to bend at the ends. This would elimate the pointless screws in the front, and act as side brackets. Furthermore if the unit sliding or falling continues to be a problem. You can tap and die those front screws to a flat stock in the inside that will clamp own on the iPad when screwed in. Using stick on felt padding to line the u channel and clamp to protect from scratches. Not my preferred design but what steps I would take to improve yours.

The tablet is still too low for safety. It should be mounted to the screen is at least even with the top of the shelf. Never look down below the gauges when driving. proclipusa.com probably has a proper mounting bracket for this vehicle.
