I loved hearing about the glycogen stores and how that works. I find myself on longer rides 30-50 miles, having a decent weight loss say 3-5 lbs, but knew that most of that was "water", but hoping some of the weight loss was permanent. This helped me realize what's really going on! Thanks again for a great podcast.

Note that depression from a concussion can also be caused by the emotional reaction to the effects of Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS). That is, the impact injury does not cause depression directly, but the resulting PCS symptoms such as headaches, disorientation, loss of memory, feeling "foggy," etc. that may drag on for weeks, months and even years causes the individual to feel increasingly hopeless about the situation, as the "light at the end of the tunnel" is not visible or seems a very long way off.

So true! I had a bad crash in August 2018. Suffered 3 fractured ribs and pneumothorax. Weird headaches started around 5 weeks afterwards, gradually getting worse and resulting in all the symptoms you describe - by early December I couldn't even walk UP a flight of stairs without needing one hand on the wall, had blinding headaches which got worse throughout the day, dizziness, nausea (to the point where I actually threw up), horrendous brain fog, I would burst into tears for no apparent reason. It gradually subsided the following April and my physio told me I was one of the lucky ones as this was considered a 'short' timescale for PCS.

Chad made some great points about using a registered dietitian to assist young athletes and for objectivity with diet and supplementation. Humans of all ages are generally terrible with self-assessment in this area and would benefit from a set of objective eyes.

@ Producer Tucker - Can you begin adding Chapters to these long podcasts? Also if you could title those chapters in the description box with @2:00 markers we'd be able to get to the information we're after faster. Thanks for considering!

Remember, 2 people with the same VO2max but different lactate thresholds, will finish differently. A high lactate threshold will trump the VO2max

Sometimes in training when the heart lacks the ability to pump out at or near max heart rate is it a cause of low glycogen levels in the muscle, neural/nervous system fatigue or can it in fact be a good sign that your cardiovascular system has been enhanced to a level the muscles have not yet adapted to (the muscle reaches max fatigues before the heart)??

Amber, my wife says your philosophy on sponsors applies to husbands. It easier to keep the one you have than go and find a new one.

Huge topic of carb cycling, I call it carbs on demand. It's not black and white, I see too many people start a ketogenic diet and then try to blast out glycolytic HIIT workouts with poor results. I spend a period in a ketogenic diet with rides only at zone2 to reset my fat burning capabilities and then built on a better aerobic base.

Don't use percentages when planning your food... I would use grams/kilogram bodyweight. Just add carbs to fuel your workouts.

Not sure you need to promote fat intake. There is already way too much fat in most peoples diets. Giving them the green light is probably not a great idea. , Just like with carbohydrate there is a huge difference in the quality of the fat that you consume!

65% Carbs, 20% Protein, 15% Fat?? Practically speaking, how do you only eat 15% fat? I have a 25% fat goal and struggle to keep it that low. Appreciate the response in advance.
