updated and modified cricri size plane, 100% carbon fiber with 2 electric motors , 80kg empty weight . we used electric motors for this prototype because they are simple ,reliable and gives us enough range for checkride .

Wow I had the privilege of flying the most unique Cri Cri kits ever built. My friend built one of the original Chris Heinz kits produced by Zeniar In Canada with two 28 Hp Rotax engines. I was one of only four people to ever fly the aircraft. The fourth crashed the aircraft and destroyed it on the first flight after purchasing the aircraft and shipping it to the Netherlands. Your project looks fantastic and I wish you all the best with it. Looking forward to updates.

Dave King : Thanks yes it was the only one ever built and only three pilots flew the aircraft in North America. The fourth purchased the aircraft and took it to the Netherlands, unfortunately he crashed the aircraft on the first flight and destroyed it. Very sad it was an amazing machine.

You should build with bigger wing of Luciole - then could be flown much safely as UL - get landing and stall lower to reasonable speeds.
@Justwantahover4 жыл бұрын
The original Cri Cri has the same sort of tiny wings and is fine. It's fast cos of the small wing. No less safe than other fast planes (all deadly). lol Some small wing planes have larger wings as well for slow flight and gliding and small wings for extra speed and range.

@wpw45085 жыл бұрын
The original cri-cri has twin engines up front, but mounted on a v-structure so thrust is centered (mostly?) on the aircraft longitudinal axis. That seems good for yaw control on an engine failure. But perhaps electrics are reliable enough that engine failure is much less likely? Anyway, best of luck -- minimal weight is the future! What's the max gross weight? Weight of batteries? Weight of engines?

As a CriCri owner I would be interested in your motors, battery and controller system for possible retrofit. The noise, vibration and unreliability of the JPX's has killed my interest in flying it now that I have a Silent 2 Electro motorglider. The empty weight of your CF version is only slightly less than mine. I would consider mounting the battery externally to the belly at the CG with a jettison capability in case of fire. What endurance do you expect to achieve? I'm looking forward to your flight reports.
@majid18485 жыл бұрын
hi jim the motors are 12090 with 25hp each and with a battery pack of 25kg you could get around 15 to 18 min depends on the thrust you pull out of them.
@jimpike74455 жыл бұрын
@@majid1848 15hp each was plenty for my CriCri. 15-18 minutes would be too short for a non-glider electric, I'm afraid.

Looks interesting. I have flown the F-PYVQ cricri mc15. once of most fun airplanes every flown (out of 76 types). JPX where not the best engines, but I always got back with one engine. Electric solves this engine issue. But why not using one engine infront? Also why engine wing mounted? Makes the wings heavier to hold during mounting. CriCiri original wing only 7kg Piece. Anyway good luck with this project. Bob

I estimate 18 -20 lb. per square foot of wing loading for this plane. A light Piper or Cessna has between 10 to 14 lbs. per square foot. And 100 plus horse power. An ultralight has about 4 lbs. per square foot. And 28 to 40 horse power. This will make a nice RC model though. That would still be 7 plus lbs. per square foot of wing loading.
@duncannicholson22264 жыл бұрын
More wingloading is not always a bad thing. It will have a fast cruise. And with the slotted flaps to/ldg shouldn't be that scary.

Did you perform calculations as of stress and flutter? Or sandbag testing the structure? The weight looks like a little heavy, for the use of almost entirely CFK.
@cindyd43335 жыл бұрын
It's 80kg. Original steel version weighs 78kg. Carbon fibre is 5 times lighter and 10 times stronger than steel...so he'd need 50 times less material by weight. So his version should weigh 1.4kg. Instead it weighs 80kg. Instead of losing 98% of weight, he gained 2%.
@RunesLegacy4 жыл бұрын
@@cindyd4333 Somehow you must realize this math doesn't add up...
@cindyd43334 жыл бұрын
@@RunesLegacy go on then, post your amended calculations
@RunesLegacy4 жыл бұрын
@@cindyd4333 Use common sense. It isn't going to weigh 1.4kg. You could fill it with helium and it would float away. You double dipped when comparing the figures. Carbon fiber is 5 times lighter for a given volume. Separately per kg it is twice as stiff as steel. You would actually need to use a higher volume of carbon fiber to compare to a steel structure in real world use. Thankfully it is lighter so it ends up being about 50% lighter for the same desired strength. Carbon fiber has low ductility meaning it will snap instead of bend which is not ideal. This means you have to use enough to avoid too much flex. Strength is a vague way to state a materials qualities and doesn't represent the whole picture. If you watch material tests on youtube in some cases for a given volume steel is 25x "stronger" then carbon fiber. It depends on what you are looking for in a material. The cricri hardly uses steel at all and uses a lot of foam and wood. These weigh about 10 times less for a given volume then carbon fiber. The original designer knew what he was doing.
