20 years ago this stuff was like voodoo that had to be imported from some other planet. Kinda cool to see its pretty much readily available for all types of applications. Good stuff.

I'm assuming the panels are laid up with the weave in multiple directions since you said the grain direction is only cosmetic? It will defiantly be stronger in one direction if its not. Great videos!

The "only cosmetic" mention was in reference to how the panels are installed not how they are produced. Meaning, when they are installed, it typically looks nicer if two panels side by side have grain running the same direction. There are a few photo references in the video near this. As far as how they are made, the grain would be ran in each layer according to whatever creates the strongest layup.

What I understood from the "only cosmetic" is that the panels are not structural panels so it really has no affect on the flex of the car. In RC racing we pay extra attention to direction of weave and thickness for chassis flex, but those cars are 1350grs. this is probably 1300KGs. So accessory plates should not have any major affect on a car this size. @@Timmcamis

If there is light scratching on the outside can it be buffed like clear coat?
@Timmcamis
@Timmcamis 5 жыл бұрын
It's possible, but you don't want to if it is much more than a very light scratch. Especially if it is a vacuum bagged part as the resin will much much thinner.

Hey, I'm looking at building a drag car around a 8.1l vortec with twin 76 or 80s feeding a 200m marine turbo. how would i go about building a chassis to support that much insanity?

I cant find any info about, maybe you can help me out. I am makeing my first carbon fibre project. It is a car bonnet. I am planning to make exact copy of inner frame. Bonnet is originally made 0,7mm sheet metal(both inner and outer part) I am planing to use 200g 2by2 twill(0,2-0,25mm as for one layer thikness) how much layers I have to use, to get same flex as steel sheet metal has? I think 45degrees of two layers should be enought, but I am not shure. Every video in youtube only cuts and cracks and pulls cf test materials. They sometimes provide numerical data, but that is not enought for me. I just want minimum weight bonnet with steel bonnet reference without bendind into engine bay at hight speeds.
