this is a late response. but in hopes to it helping someone else, since I am in the same scenario. so when comparing this scenario, you need to look at two things. 1) amount of time and money (with analysis of liabilities) of setting up another house to service 5 residents and 2) Amount of time and money will save in regards to purchasing a new house. And taking into consideration how much time and money can be saved and earned for expanding the site for additional residents. Add up the expansion costs to compare with startup costs for 5 residents (ada, sprinklers, furniture, extra staff, added costs to overhead, purchasing things/labor/licenses/permits that you need to make it happen i.e. maybe you need a construction or zoning lawyer, , and etc). There may be alot of hidden benefits or costs, so be sure to dig those out. Once youve done both analysis. This is the tricky part.... Take each scenario, calculate a realisitic Net Income Range (i.e. I could earn a range of 30K on worse case scenario and upside of 70K on best case scenario )to attach to each, and calculate Net Profit down to each Resident. Your range should be tight, the larger the variance could mean a)you didnt do proper analysis or calculating or b)if you are sure your numbers are grounded and realistic - then it would impose a larger risk (room for failure) in achieving profit. Compare these two numbers for both scenarios and let the data guide you in decision making. So in essence your comparing startup costs for each scenario versus the added net income (so for expansion, your calculating net profit of the extra residents your expanding for, i.e. I am going to spend X amount of money for X amount of net income for X amount of added residents to the site). Always be objective. It will higher your chance of success. While being subjective or going with your gut, increases your chance for failure

Agree Frank. I advise owners and they never use facility. Homes are more inclusive.

You make a good point, however that's the term people in this industry use. When talking to families I think home and community is much more inviting and appropriate.
