Dear Dr. Anthony, first of all thank you for your videos! Hope you can help me with this question. I was wondering if I must be assessed by the College before applying for a job or vice versa. In case I have to research an employment before the assessment, how can I introduce myself, if I don’t know yet if I am substantially or partially compared (not taking into account the not comparable possibility)?
@CareerDoctor

Hi thanks for the question. For most situations for Specialist IMGs you need to sit the College assessment first.

I have been in PHC for past 9 years in Fiji, and have completed my masters in PH in 2021 and have two published articles. Which pathway applies to me?
@CareerDoctor
@CareerDoctor 3 ай бұрын
I am assuming PH means Public Health. Since COVID the interest in Public Health in Australia has increased significantly. There are far too many qualified doctors her for the limited jobs available.

Hello Dr. Anthony After comparing my training and specialty practice against that of the college I'm applying to. How do I prove my training? I'm afraid the institute I trained at and the one I currently work as a specialist at do not have a clear system where they can provide me with the necessary paper! NB: My training and specialty practice do compare to that of the respective Australian college.

Hi Anthony, I got my training in obstetrics and gynaecology from Pakistan assessed by Australian college in 2017 and it was not comparable as training was less than 5 years duration. Then I moved to UK in 2017 and now have completed specialist registration from GMC in 2023 and working as consultant for 1 year in NHS . I want to restart to peruse my career in Australia. Do I need to reapply and resubmit application for assessment?Do I need to do IELTS again as I am working in UK for last > 6 years ? Please need your guidance regarding from where to start?
@CareerDoctor
@CareerDoctor 10 ай бұрын
Hi at present yes you would need to reapply to RANZCOG. But should now have no problems with your CCT. You do not need to resit your English test as you have been working registered in an English speaking country (comparable conutry). There will probably be some changes in a year or so when the Kruk Report is responded to. One of the recommendations in this report is to recognise specialists with qualifications from countries like the UK without needing to sit college assessment.

Both pathways are expensive if you are from a developing country. If you are eligible for Specialist Pathway then you should go for this above the Standard Pathway.

Hi Anthony . Hope you are fine . I would love to seek your advice on specialist pathway results in Otorhinolaryngology . I have had my EPIC verification done and AMC portfolio was created . I got 8 in IELTS but it expired in covid ( wanted to apply for Specialist pathway in 2020 but covid ruined it ) . I have worked as Senior Consultant for last 8 years in different hospitals of India. Have published 12 papers and 2 are under scruting . Before I venture into it I just wanted to seek your genuine advice of chances in ENT ?? Thanks in advance 🙏

Hi Tushar I will give you the general advice that I give to all such candidates applying for surgery recognition. Which is that getting recognised as a surgeon in Australia is relatively harder than most other specialties. It will all come down to a more detailed analysis of your situation. Happy to go over in more detail on a strategy call. ---- The process of becoming a doctor in Australia can be confusing. hi i am a radiologist from india with 3 years of post MD /.DNB experience and working as a consultant. i wanted to pursue further training as fellowship in interventional radiology in australia. so which pathway should i apply for?? should i directly give RANZCR phase 2 exam ??? or should i apply for short term in pathway?
@CareerDoctor
@CareerDoctor Жыл бұрын
Hi unlike in the UK you cannot sit the RANZCR exams unless you are a trainee of the college. If you just want some experience working in Interventional Radiology in Australia the Short Term pathway is best for you. Bear in mind that getting jobs as an IMG in Radiology in Australia is quite difficult. Lots of SIMGs gain partial comparability with RANZCR but only a handful each year are then able to obtain a post.

To answer your question about cardiology. Unless you have some support here you will find it very difficult to gain a role in Cardiology. It is oversubscribed as a specialty.
