Keith Michele. I have used a full cover for many years without any issues. Keeps the caravan protected, stops people peering in, and means you dont have to have the blinds down or curtains drawn with those associated issues. I have a bespoke "Specialised Covers" full cover with main door and front locker access, its great. They will also put in a window for solar panels when you order if you give them dimensions etc. No condensation issues as I use simple moisture traps inside when it is in use. Nick T.

Keith Michele. Roof liners are designed to give an air gap between the roof and awning space. This gap is then a barrier to the cold air of warmer air which will prevent condensation. It's physics guys !!! Nick T.

Hi there, another very informative and quality video. Regarding caravan covers, I'm a big fan of them. We've had a caravan for 12 years and always had one. There are so many advantages. It takes the chill off the caravan in extreme cold and keeps it cool in extreme heat / sunlight. It protects against all the elements and is also a handy deterrent to would be thieves. It is breathable so does not affect the air circulation. FYI, I keep one rooflight slightly open during the season for even more ventilation. Finally, our latest caravan is 6 years old and we've had it since new. I wash it after every trip before taking it back to storage and putting on the cover. When we next come to use it, it still looks like it's just come out of the showroom!

We have a Kampa air awning, we do use a roof liner and find it helps a lot with condensation, I think it’s because the liner provides a void in the roof that acts like double glazing. My tip for you is : When reversing your caravan lift the Alko stabiliser and this will let the caravan manoeuvre much easier. Enjoying your tips👍🏼👍🏼

This was a great VLOG - so much covered - my item list getting longer - Bungy Cords! Brilliant. BTW I've had a big silk screen sign made to stick on the rear of the caravan with my 50 MPH sign "SORRY FOR ANY DELAY" I remember when I was a young impatient driver in the UK!! I'm also fitting a rear camera to watch the traffic so I can pull in!

Hi Keith & Michelle, In answer to the last question on this video, We have an Elddis Avante 550 which has the End Bedroom / Island Bed layout. Our 2 dogs share one dog bed which fits perfectly at the foot of the bed. When it is pulled out in night time configuration it also gives them a small canopy over the top.

A towing cover will save you money if you do get a big stone chip, and a good cover protects all of the front of the caravan, not just the windows. Good tip for a full winter cover, put cling film over your windows, before pulling the cover over so the wind movement will not have the cover dull the surface of your windows. Another really good tip, forget motor movers, spend the money on air-conditioning, two reasons, one you will not forget how to reverse, which seems to be a growing issue, and two, these really hot summers days (particularly in the south of England) you are super comfortable. We have had neighbours on some sites in tears because they just cannot cool down when the day has been 35 degrees plus with the interior of the van is 5-10 degrees even hotter, and better still, when you travel abroad, it can get much hotter still.

Hi Both, great video as usual. On the cover question I use both towing and full. I would never tow without a towing cover having had stone damage to a window on a previous caravan, but would only use a custom fit as the universal fits have straps and they can flap around and can cause paint damage. My full cover is again a custom fit for my van and I use inflatable beach balls to form a pitched roof, they can be inserted through the top vents and then inflated, this helps keep the air flow and stops the cover rubbing on top vents. I will only use a custom full cover as it wont move around in the wind and damage the van. Having put my motor mover remote on the A frame and actually lost it, I never put it down and use a Carabiner to clip it to my belt loop every time now as it was a very costly mistake. I also use suspenders on the bed, but the best use, is to to keep throws on the front lounge seats and backs always keeping them looking nice and taught. I have the Kampa condensation lining for my Air Ace 500, but all it seems to do is collect the water and it then runs to the lowest edge along window and then drips, so I cant have furniture near the window. On hard standing ONLY I use a waterproof tarpaulin under the carpet which does help a lot.

Hi Steve, Brilliant information, Many thanks for sharing your experiences 👍🏻 Very interesting regarding the roof liner, some comments on here suggest they are very good & prevent drips. It’s on the shopping list but think we need to do some research before buying 🤔 Many thanks again, best wishes, Keith & Michele.
@britsd6397
@britsd6397 4 жыл бұрын
on the question of the roof liner, it does help if the condensation is less than can be dried during the day, but all it actually does is collect and store it, but if too much to store it will run to the lowest point and drip, its quite a simple fix, but has its limitations. Still worth buying though.

Hi, we've got 4 big dogs (2 Newfoundlands and 2 Labradors). Have got the same layout as you (transverse island bed) and an awning. With the dogs the awning is a complete must. Basically once the awning is pegged down put something over most of the mud flaps or at least make it look impossible to move, box of shoes etc. We also ensure the draught skirt is pegged down to stop any escape there. The only area we have to worry about is the door, as they learn that's the way in/out. The only stopper we've found that works is an old heavy bag of metal pegs put on the mud flap as close to the zipper as possible, this stops them getting a nose under and unzipping the door (had that once, but that's another story :)). In terms of night time the two labs sleep on the front settees and the newfs sleep in the awning, we always leave the caravan door open so they can come and go as they please, but they are happy sleeping in the the awning. In terms of best layout, think it comes down to the size of dogs as well as number, 4 Jack Russell's take up a lot less space than ours, but you just adapt, even if it means playing a poor version of twister to get the fridge. Top video as always!!

We have a specialised towing cover mainly because we worry about windows being broken when towing. We have found it dried out pretty fast if left in the awning to dry or garage. We dont clean it every trip but I've seen people just letting the dry and then vacuuming them. Our caravan engineer told us that he has seen many caravans damaged by covers that have rubbed caravan windows etc. So we dont use a full cover.

We have a Towing Cover and always put in on. You can brush off any dirt easily, no need to wash the cover. I don’t have a Full cover, just wash the van at the end of season with Fenwicks Caravan Cleaner then rinse off with Fenwicks Winter Protecter. Whatever you use you should always put the covers onto a Clean Van or you risk scratching your van.

The 12V supply to the refrigerator is not connected to the caravan battery so it cannot run it flat. It is supplied via a relay from the tow car only when the engine is running . It is solely to keep the refrigerator cold when travelling. There is a common misconception that the fridge can run from the caravan battery among newcomers to caravanning.

I'm not new to caravaning but still found all the tips helpful in the first class video. I always carry a fire extinguisher but on a trip to Swift Caravans I asked why they don't fit extinguishers as standard as they are such low cost. They felt that fitting as standard was paramount to saying that you should stay and fight a fire where the advice is always to get out of the caravan as fast as possible !

Get net curtains for your house many people with net curtains dont close they're main curtains, have the bathroom light on till about midnight, you can't answer the door when your in the bathroom. Put a desk upstairs next to the window at the front of the house in a spare room behind a net curtain with a reading/study lamp, lit well into the early hours even when your in the house giving the impression someone's at the desk. Let your neighbour park in your drive way.

When away with the caravan previously when the house was going to be empty we fitted the timer plug devices that would put a table light on in the dark hours, not saying it will stop being broken in but we never was as I can only assume opportunist thief's would believe someone is home. Regarding caravan theft from services, 20 years ago I towed my dads van down to Cornwall. On the way home we stopped at Exeter services. On the way in a guy stopped us and said “ my mate works here and I’m helping him , can you park all caravans down the far end please” . This made me suspicious and I parked in the caravan area which had plenty of space . I’m sure they wanted caravans down the bottom so they could break into them or nick them . Best thing is to leave somebody with the caravan .

As a long standing caravan user regarding your comments on CL and CS and club sites, I would be interested to hear your opinions on staff/wardens. In my own experience I have found Cl+CS personnel to be excellent as opposed to some club sites. I must stress in over 15 years of caravanning I can count on one hand occasions when encountering over officious or purely bloody-minded staff who seem to forget that people on arrival, often after long eventful journey are there for a holiday. On one occasion being most earnestly instructed "Your offside rear corner absolutely MUST be within one hands breadth of pitch marker", when duly parked and set up as requested, water/awning etc, the "Grass Nazi" as he became known wandered over with his tape measure to tell us we were incorrectly sited because "Someone has previously moved this pitch marker"!!!! I must add that there was No evidence of any alternative position for said pitch marker??? The measurement I was off by ??? .................11inches!!! Now I thought it was just me he didn`t like but the next (elderly) couple to pitch up he made reposition their van SIX TIMES!!! till it was to his liking. On finally passing muster and talking to already established campers we discovered this particular chap was well known for his attitude. This over zealousness and 07;30 DAILY grass cutting and tree surgery, with chainsaw did not make me want to ever return to this site

Hi Growlers90, We actually haven’t visited any CL’s or CS’s, not for any particular reason, we just haven’t got around to staying at one yet. We must say, your experience certainly made us chuckle 😀 Probably not your intention but certainly very entertaining reading. We know many people love these smaller sites & prefer to stay at these rather than the large sites, it really is a personal choice. Many thanks for watching, sending our best wishes, Keith & Michele.

I am a solo camper with 2 dogs I have a fixed bed for me and the dogs have the other side of the sofa when in dining area so we watch tv together. In summer they are out on a corkscrew peg or in awning in the day but sofas at night. Hope this is helpful. Was the site you were on near oxford??

Hi Scott, We assume you’re referring to the area with the clock on it 🤔 That’s a standard fitting on most Swift’s. May be worth looking to see if you can purchase one as a spare part??? Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.

Not quite right I think... My Uncle Alec always says leave some with the caravan all the time in service stations. No need to worry about hitch locks or thief's. Save the money on burger's for an extra night away

about the hitchlock at services most insurance companies expect you to put both locks on even when at services, hitch and wheel one. why not use the caravan instead of services just pull in there
