In regards to 5 star rating… ANCAP lost the plot some time back. They now just keep shifting the goal posts to remain employed… If only we tracked the stats on how many people had accidents while trying to turn off yet another annoying alarm in the car.. ABS, Seatbelts, Airbags all good. A car that fights you and tries to steer you into crap or beeps at you for checking the mirrors too often in its opinion… F right off.

I was thinking the exact same thing, however I’m guessing the reasons would be the same on that front too. If it ain’t 3.0L or less it’s gonna be over the emissions regulations and therefore fined. The only way to get around that is exactly like how the American manufacturers do it, reclass the vehicle as a light truck. But I’m sure the Australian government will close that loophole as well in a form or another.

It will cruise at any speed you put it at regardless of the steepness of the hills and stick at the speed. Put your foot down and it quickly builds up speed even on very long, steep motorway roads. The Australia government must think we live in a bubble, because the rest of the world isn't interested like China, India, Africa etc. That 1HZ 4.2L Landcruiser is still available brand new in many countries around the world. Toyota die hards will pay what ever it will cost to get one. Unfortunately, my old factory V8 79 couldn't pull skin off a custard, so I'm not a fan of the 79 series. I ended up purchasing a LC200 instead, which I am a fan of.. I'll be keeping my LC200 for a bit longer, now they are a good tow vehicle.. Easy pulls my over-weight 3.8t boat up some pretty steep inclines no probs 👍

Toyota motor corporation should release its Manual Version for lovers of manual transmission with the 2.8 4-cylinder engine with 6-speed manual transmission like the Hilux and also improve a new engine like 6 cylinders in line like the 1HZ 4.2, do it with the same technology of the 2.8 1GD in 6 Cylinders in line Turbo Diesel with more horses and Torque and Toyota has to send that information 🛻🦾🇯🇵 Greetings from Venezuela 🇻🇪🇦🇺

Unlikely, sorry pal, there’s just not enough appetite amongst buyers to make it viable. Take a look at the old school prime mover manufacturers who only supplied an 18 speed road ranger transmission…Kenworth, Mack, Western Star etc, all changing over to automated transmission systems because transmission reliability has improved and contractors/fleet buyers see the benefits ~ same for Toyota.

I was working in a Toyota dealership when the V8 LC70 came out, and remember thinking what a massive disappointment it was compared to the 6 cylinder diesel it replaced. But unless you needed a work ute that was more rugged and correspondingly more agricultural feeling than a Hilux, I really didn't see the point in them. The LC100/105 was a far more comfortable ride.

Not a silly question at all. I'm guessing cost..they don't want to upgrade the diffs, transfer case, transmission, driveshafts etc. to fit that engine, and probably don't want to upgrade the electronic architecture or chassis either. It probably can't take the torque.

This information came out months ago at the time the current price for the 4 cylinder was listed at $120 thou, Toyota did say that the v8 will only remain in the single cab workmate Ute, as government and mining fleets still wanted this vehicle or has this suddenly changed, also no more information on the new land cruiser mini, using the same engine as the land cruiser 4 cylinder but a listing price of around $45 thou to compete with the jimny, as this is taking a bit chunk of the market Toyota finally don’t want to miss out on.

If it was truly about emissions, why not use the F33A engine (3.3 V6 TD) and remove one turbo? We had the 2.8 (with a camper on the back) for a weekend recently, got 4.3 km/l driving conservatively 🤡. Yes, on paper it has more power but bottom line is it’s a smaller engine working so much harder to do the same job. I certainly don’t expect to see many 1m km 70 series with this engine anymore…

Doesn't work too well when the dpf clogs up once a shift so u have to knock it back to second and fang it up the decline at 3750 rpm for 5 to 10 min lol. A mob in Canada has the right idea. They are going to retro fit a diesel hybrid. Super efficient diesel genny for powering an all electric drive train and traction battery. Heaps of low down torque, plenty of high end power and easily pass Aussie emissions standards. Much better suited to huge Aussie distances with our piss poor EV charging infrastructure (or even electricity infrastructure tbh). These kinds are vehicles are bought by a lot of people who traverse the outback and sparsely serviced areas of this country so a beefy hybrid set up is a way to go.

many reasons why its happened, ADR rules in 2018 by the government, homologating the manufacturing to thailand soon (i think it'll happen since thailand is such a big market for trucks/utes as well), plus the biggest buyers are fleets for mining, ag and defence/military especially in the middle east/africa, so being able to offer the trucks with engines they are continuing to develop and can streamline and boost deliveries
