Wonderful tribute and masterfully played. Loved it and so would have Keith. ELP, the grandfathers of the my favorite music.

I spent a good portion of his solo mentally projecting the thought across time and space, "The gongs, Carl! Hit the gongs!" At last, he did. (What happened to the dragon and horse ones?) Carl is a great drummer and percussion player. And at least when he was 21, a heckuva nice guy who spent time throughout an afternoon being friendly, hospitable, and gracious to three teenage fans in San Francisco during ELP's rehearsal before their sold-out show. He was very quick-witted and funny. And oh, so handsome. I was 15 and it was only the second rock concert my parents let me go to. I was a huge fan of their music, but, wow, I was not prepared for the awesomeness of seeing Keith, Carl, and Greg perform live. Superlatives are so commonly used that they lose the majesty of their meaning, but when I say seeing Emerson, Lake and Palmer play live was awesome, I mean it was standing-at-the-edge-of-the-Grand-Canyon awesome. Three consummate, innovative musicians, playing spectacularly excitingly well. I went to all their concerts anywhere nearby forevermore, and of course bought every recording they made. I'm really happy this is posted online, look forward to buying official recordings of Carl's tribute shows. I was very touched by the beautiful things Carl said after Keith's passing. If anyone deserves/has earned the privilege to continue performing ELP's music, it's one of the three (sadly, now two) talented people who originally created and performed it.

I agree...I loved ELP and saw them over the years as ELP, Emerson, Lake, and Powell, and "3". A very impressive and talented 3 piece band. I loved all three guys...only Carl is left...I believe he's the best percussionist alive today.

There is a visual element that set's Carl Palmer apart from all other drummers. He is a true artist to the core! To be able to hold your own against masters like the late great Greg lake and the one and only Keith Emerson, you HAVE to be this good!

ELP was a phenomenal show when I saw them twice in the 1970's! Carl Palmer is one of the great drummers of the 20th and 21st century's. Where's the keyboards? oh no one can really play to Keith's level.

I saw Carl and his band play last year. They opened for Yes and Todd Rundgren. I am a lifelong ELP fan, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed hearing Carl play. Very powerful. I enjoyed him more than the 2 hour Yes show, which was tediously slow.

I feel fortunate to have known,played on stage with Keith Emerson and Gregg Lake when I was part of John Cafferty and all Beaver Brown Band collaborated on many mutual projects. Its really sucks losing two people just like Buch and Derek Trucks,Michael Jackson I am so blessed to have know them,be involved with them in music and life. Miss all of the good times and all of them.

I should note that many times I've had the good fortune of playing live on stage with Ian Anderson and some of the band members of Jethro Tull with collaborate projects. Ian still amazing to play with onstage. Final thought remembering several collaborate projects with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull,Steve Smith of the Nakeds,Bruce Dickinson of Iron Madon,Gregg Allmam of Allmam Brothers Band and a lot more in music industry.

Stop, will you? "The long haired guitar Player??? You sound like a Hobbesian geezer from the 1930's !! If you don't know what that means : "Google It"" I understand what I think is your motivation. There is no keyboard player in this band. The guitar player, however is very good and your comments are unfair. This is a tribute to ELP and it is only reasonable that Carl Palmer would showcase his talents. They were a phenomenal three piece band and the emphasis here is on three piece. Although Keith Emerson was the star and is my favorite keyboard player of all time, this band, much like Led Zeppelin was greater than the sum of it's parts. Give Carl his due credit for being part of this wonderful musical trio.

KEITH EMERSON was the very best keyboardist ever & CARL PALMER was the best drummer in rock history. We all know all the other great drummers out there but CARL PALMER was a cut above all of them. I only wish LED ZEPPELIN tapped CARL PALMER after the great JOHN BONHAM died and continued.

As a fan of 40+yrs, the guitar is sooooo done for me. Cool on the first album and tour. The player is fantastic. The guitar sound gets boring real fast. Carl's been doing this for years, time for a very much needed change. I know it's about him, the drums, and the music but.... I passed on all the shows. You just can't replace the half a dozen or so very different sounds (GX-1, piano, minimoog, clavinet, Hammond, Korg, and all the others) with the single sound of a guitar. Like a mono sound songs, noise. Probably best for him to team up with Greg, like Keith did, and pull in one or 2 really talented keyboardist. Just saying.
@krollpeter6 жыл бұрын
I guess you are right, but at the same time I think it is very hard to find a real virtuoso AND artistic keyboarder nowadays. It is not as bad as some here make it, in fact it is not bad at all. He's still a very good drummer, and that is what he does best.
@jacebrodsky88697 жыл бұрын
i don't want to seem like the creep in the crowd here, but; how can you have a tribute to Kieth Emerson without a keyboard player? im just sayin. im sure rachel flowers would have been thrilled to do it....even jordan rudess. i don't think carl would have had a hard time getting a volunteer for the job. but i see he made it more about him, than Kieth. this tune featured a keyboard player. it didn't have a drum solo in it.
@1tderry4 жыл бұрын
I am sorry, Mr. Palmer. Your percussion is always perfect. However, the lack of keyboards cannot be replaced by guitar.
@yesman27553 жыл бұрын
Get what you mean but maybe Carl doesn’t want or need people making comparisons to Emerson. I saw Carl Palmer about 15 years ago at a solo gig in Stratford On Avon when he had this really young guy about 16 on guitar and man, he was awesome. The crowd went bananas for Carl AND the guitar guy.

I am sorry, I don't understand why something must be relived over and over again. Nobody can imitate Keith Emerson, and te sound of the guitar doesn' t come close to Emerson's sound and atmosphere. This is not about Emo ; it is about other Ego's who try to play as well as he did. It is totally tasteless.

First of all Carl is an amazing drummer. Secondly, his drums are way too loud for the mix. Thirdly, I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that all of the keyboard parts are played by a guitar. Sorry, I realize Carl is the only one of the three that is still alive. However, I don’t think the drummer should be the showcase of the group. That’s just my opinion.

Nice drumming act but embarassing to call it a tribute to Keith Emerson, who really deserved better ! this is a Carl Palmer see-me, hear-me self-staging act; loveless without any palpable appreciation or honour for one of the most inspiring, innovative and creative keyboarders in the history of pop/rock. This is absolutely waste and definitely not about Keith Emerson or ELP (don't tell us you couldn't find a brave keyboarder and bump the guitar !!!)
