The great Carmen McRae. Nobody interpreted lyrics better. I knew she also played piano, but never heard her play. Multi-talented!

This lady understands mood like no other. She gives every song her own ineffable touch.

By far the best version of this old classic to be found here. Simple yet sophisticated and what beautiful phrasing.

What an incredible lesson of simplicity, musicianship and charisma ... Love you Carmen, the world would have been a much sadder and gloomier place without your music! ♥️♥️

I know I was born in the wrong decade for music cause most of this new stuff called music just doesn’t capture my attention but the old skool music is more my speed.

One of the greatest joys available to the human race is Carmen McRae singing and accompanying herself at the piano.

One of the great singers of the 20th Century, or any Century. And a damned good piano player! I forgot about that!

As many times I saw Carmen live, she hooked me in every time. There is something about her that leads you to believe she's singing just to you and just for you. It's this level of intimacy that people comment on and writer's write about which helps make McRae an unmistakable legend.

Just like Sarah Vaughan ,Carmen was not only a great singer but also a very good pianist. Carmen, Billie, Sarah Ella have all left us. We await the arrival of worthy successors

They have arrived: check out Cecile McLorin Salvant. A true heir. Also Jazzmeia Horn. But Cecile is something else. Run don't walk.

A lifetime of musical and vocal awareness and talent flower here in her mature years to deliver a masterpiece in the lilting classic tune "I'm in the Mood for Love."

Carmen seemed to love Tokyo--everything I've heard her do from there has been particularly strong. She's just amazing--this recording is only four years before her death and it's more controlled with greater musicality than ever. The confidence and clarity seem to go first with old singers--but not for McRae. For Carmen it always appeared easy and effortless (and that defines a true professional.)

Carmen MCrae and Shirley Horn r my 2 favorite female jazz voices. I was privileged to c Ms Horn at The Four Queens in Las Vegas. I never saw Carmen MCrae. I am happy youtube has provided a glimpse of this amazing singer. Yes, all the greats are gone. Thankfully, they are not forgotten.

Caught her at Yoshi's in Oakland, probably the year before this performance. Only regret is that she didn't play piano in that set.
