Last time we raced our supercharged V6 Commodore that we call Supermang, we ran 12.53 at 106.9mph. We'd like to go quicker, but we need more boost without getting the intake charge too hot. So we've headed back to the dyno for a little development.

Supermang is a special car for me.. one of the first carnage cars to get me hooked along with dads ute. The first car I had to spanner on myself was an ex-holden fleet VN 1.5 Berlina in Burgundy. I remember complaining about changing the thermostat. Oh how naive I was

Fuckin rappo haha. I dno how it's a weird combination. Nitrous the everything if you have a tow vehicle the only reason it's not very common is the 10k fine on the street even if theirs no bottle in the car 🥲

@@antonyfrost2541 in WA at least anyway. It's about 8-10kms from my house where a car with young p players rolled. Firies went to pull them out and the whole car blew up killing them and throwing the responders back. Was probably 15-18 years ago I was just starting in high school. I dno if the fine was always so big but they really hated it after that here in Perth lol.

Go the nitrous. A small shot will help a lot with intake temps and the extra power is never a bad thing.

Thats what I was thinking. A cheeky 50 shot will help IATs a fair bit and probably net 70 odd hp down the back. Boost loves nitrous lol

Always look forward to seeing carnage on the Friday, the willingness to try new things and not the "normal" setup that everyone else runs like turbo taxis! The barrel intercooler itself might be cold to the touch Scotty but if it can't transfer that coldness into actually cooling the intake charge properly, which as shown by your power drops each run and intake temps that it can't, it's dog 💩. I think you might need to revisit it in the future. 👍

You need to throw a Truetrac in that 1 wheel peel machine rear end to benefit on the track. I'd maybe put one airshock on the drivers side and inflate it before runs so that side resists the torsional roll on launches

Somebody hasn't been watching. It got a Truetrac-style diff ages ago with 3.7 gears. It's not spinning one wheel, it's spinning both

dry ice and metho in the intercooler tank,cant get much colder than that.used use it to shrink sleeves before fitting.

I would love to see the rotors / housing beaning coated in either ceramic coating of that heat dissipation stuff. Ryan at Race Coatings does this stuff. Be interesting to see if these coatings can help lower the IAT’s Scotty.

Went 12.0 in my L67 VN with around 300rwhp. Stock heads stock cam no intercooler on methanol. Went 10.88 @ 126 with some spray.

Yeah methanol will make a big difference with a blown combo. Was it also on methanol when you sprayed it?

If you add nitrous put it after the blower, not for intake charge cooling as nitrous itself isn’t actually very good at reducing air temps, the fuel of a wet system is what does the heavy lifting. Nitrous after the blower will add volume to the plenum as the blower will still move the same amount of air.

I for one *would* be interested to see if the Ecotech family of engines can stand up to NoS (and what you'd need to do to the engine so it CAN handle NoS safely and repeatedly). Personally, I'd be looking at this from the basis of an otherwise NA build, but I'm sure at least *some* of the info would overlap...

Could you put another barrel cooler in along side the supercharger? if 1 isnt enough to keep inlet temps down, 2 might and it looks like there might be enough room for another one

"More power, but not too much heat" - I get what you're saying, and you are correct - the less you have to beat the shit out of the air to get it into the cylinders at the boost levels you want, the better. Your biggest problem there is the M90. Especially when you go to the bigger motor, with the larger capacity and increased breathing capacity, you might struggle to even make double-digit boost numbers with that blower. You'll have to upgrade it whether you want to or not, to something like a TVS R1900 or perhaps even an R2300 if you want to turn it as slowly as possible to keep inlet manifold temps as low as possible...

Big yes for the nitrous, even just 50 shot post intercooler to cool those intake temps down. It’s been done on l67’s before with good results, or you could try water meth? Might take the coating off the supercharger rotors but that’s no biggie

temp kills power, after a tune i would let the car sit for 10 after mins with the dyno fan on and then do a final run, crazy how much power you lose through temp.. would be good to see a water/meth kit on this rig

I would go a Snow water to meth injection as that will cool off the air intake and keep it cool as cause of the methanol and I am using it on my blown windsor with a 174 weiand blower as well ..
