So much to love in this video. Scotty asking for help, Gerado being so patient and double checking things, if anyone needs convincing on why building an engine takes time, checking the cam tolerance and fitting them correctly is just one example. As usual, a great education on being patient with your build. Unless it's an LS1 or Green top... ha ha JUST SEND IT.

Coming together nicely gents, with those adjustable timing gears I would of thought that the cam profiles would be X lift at X degrees, thus with a degree wheel on the crank you would acheive the desired lift at X degrees using the elongated cam gears. Dialing cams is important and in your case a good starting reference point, just my thoughts, keep it coming 👍

Here I am literally killing myself removing a stupid exhaust temperature sensor from my VAG, and taking a break every 5 minutes to relax and watch you sweating on the Trolvo! That reminds me, my VAG is filthy, it needs a thorough scrubbing! Not sure if I need a detailer or a gynaecologist for my c#nt of a car... Nice work as usual Scotty 👌

Nothing wrong with those welds Scotty, not sure I would Facebook them, but they are definitely not something to be ashamed of either. All in all I would consider them decent and a whole lot better than some can do.

I got more than a few smiles and a laugh out of this episode :-) Thanks Scotty and Gerardo! Ya know the song Click go the shears boys click click click...... Tink go the Cam boys, Tink F%$K Tink. Wide are the eyes and the word is Sh1t.... Scotty looks around as he stuffed it by a Blow, And he curses that old cam bucket with the shims there ya Go.

Timing your cams is free horsepower, Scotty! Well, free as in the time it takes to make the adjustments and test results on a dyno, but hopefully Maxx have some spare time on the dyno they'll let you guys have at mates rates?

I was gunna say temporarily heat wrap the exposed parts of the neck and heat the cast alloy , the heat soak shouldn’t make it through the cast allow into the inner portion of the neck but all good you got it out 🤟🤟

Scotty mate did you put some oil on the upper cam wheels bolts, hum maybe you need to, that way the torque settings will be just that little more accurate/ but then again others say nope do not use engine oil or lube, unless its made for torquing bolts down, which is normally for hi up scale of figures?

Quite a snug engine bay, you'd think it would be very spacious, yes i know it's full of gear, but..they are quite small bays when you look at them..was quite surprised, when seeing a STD one over here..looks good under there ..nice to see the welder out again !! Aha..

@@STREETMACHINETV I will have to self invest in a Turbo taxi t-shirt for a christmas present for myself and being a ford man deep down however I do have a fondness for the Trolvo even Supermang. But the Trolvo is I hope a gift that keeps giving. I cannot wait till the next episode to see the Trolvo fire up and see how she goes on the dyno. Thanks for replying much appreciated.

Just wondering for anyone that can answer, what kind of "lube" does Scotty use for rebuilding the motors? And if it's different for diesels as I just copped a rod knock in my 4d56 and she needs a rebuild

Scotty mate should have marked the water pump pipe before you took it out and then when putting it back in you know how far it needs to go in, unless theres a seat inside the water pump etc, cheers jeep it up mate?

Scotty mate just seen a digital attachment from supercheap auto which goes on any ratchet to make it a torque wrench ? So maybe its good for the smaller torque settings and when using a 1/4 or 3/8 ratchet?

I hope you can put a different thermostat in it, like say a lower temp, so instead of say 90 degrees c its a 80 degrees c that way the engine is just a little cooler and the thermo fans if she has them also will not kick in so much?

As a matter of course I would instal timing chain/belt before adjusting torques ....don’t want to accidentally bend a valve 👀 Note aluminium doesn’t expand with heat ...steel does ,alternatively it shrinks in cold ,aluminium doesn’t

Small tip. Silicone spray or Mr Sheen is great when working on stuff with water.

I've read various theories over the years as to if it's OK to use vaseline on O-rings and never really got a definitive answer, many say it can break down the o-rings though there doesn't seem to be any real evidence this happens as O-rings aren't made from natural rubber - regardless I use either silicone lubricant, or if it's the cooling system like this, just some undiluted coolant which is surprisingly slippery.

@@Beer_Dad1975 In the olden days we used Lard on gaskets and O-rings. Mainly to hold them in place during fitting. The Silicone stuff does the same thing and it is easier to get stuff out a few years down the road.

@@royferntorp3575 LOL, I'm an old fucker, but I post-date using lard! Dad (at true old school fucker who swore by lanolin and copper grease for various applications) always taught me to listen/feel for the thunk when the gasket hits the groove - as long as you've got that thunk, all should be good, at least for a number of years! I still use copper grease on brakes and spark plugs.

@@tones61 they had the motor off of TDC so all the pistons were down in the bores to be able to turn the cams without valves hitting pistons. then they retimed the cams before putting the bottom end at TDC.

I honestly don't know why aftermarket brands like Kelford don't use forged steel blanks to grind cams from. They could be so much stronger and with gun-drilling there is room to make significant weight savings.

It's cheaper than replacing a whole lot of cams. Putting them in is not a hard job, it just requires patience and application of knowledge. I am actually glad Scotty got outside help on this one. It shows the audience that there is nothing wrong with asking for help rather than muddling through yourself.

@@DodgyBrothersEngineering Well he only replaced one, not the set. 👍 I said to Max how appreciative I am that his knowledge and expertise were on my motor, because I would've slapped it together, gone shibby, then be on the side of the road after Rodney goes window shopping. That's why I'm doing my stupidity on the bubble instead cause atleast if I blow that up, it only costs me a couple of hundred for a whole engine. 😁👍

Just a - 'possibility warning' - VASELINE has been known to cause natural rubber seals to degrade - but I am 'assuming' it should be okay on 'artificial rubber' surfaces'. Have a safe and nice day all. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
