Hi, everybody,
It's time for another archetype. It's Sunday afternoon, and I have a little extra time, so I decided to take on the addict tonight. I need time because this archetype is so complex, and it embodies so many other points of view for me.
The addict confronts the mystical awareness that the most precious thing you have is the power of your spirit. No human being gets to adulthood without establishing a field of cravings. None of us does. So we're all in this together.
Thank you, everybody. I'll see you next week.
Love,
Caroline

"An addiction is a replacement for real relationships. That is a very useful definition of addictions. It is a replacement for real relationship with yourself, with other people and with the world. People lose their relationship with themselves and must replace it with something. They must have something to which they are dedicated, that occupies their focus and their time. And so instead of that which is real and meaningful, they have chosen a substitute. And these substitutes, at the very least, consume one’s attention and, at the very worst, destroy one’s life." _The New Message from God » Freedom from Addiction and Obsession_

I read a life changing book for me on how to parent in the hope of avoiding negative addictions in my children - 'The Continuum Concept' by Jean Liedhoff. Jean, a French journalist, spent time with an indigenous tribe in the Amazon forest and noted how they raised their children. Jean concluded, as summary not quoted, 'time on mother's breast and in mother's arms for baby is vital in raising a happy, healthy non-addicted adult. The baby was held for the first 6 months of its life and only when the baby indicated it wanted to be let down did the crawling/walking stage begin. Addictions are craving mothers breast, mothers closeness, mothers love'. Today we are rapidly building more childcare centres and prisons - missing link??. Society needs to re focus on valuing 'motherhood' and remove the ever increasing economic barriers to functional parenting. Very complex problem to solve but with knowledge and will power anything is possible. Sure - if women want a career - absolutely go ahead. But if you wish to raise a child then the way you do so has huge consequences for life.

I’m currently struggling with my addiction to cigarettes. I ran out of the last one and I’ve been telling myself that it REALLY was about time to quit for a few days now. Right after I smoked the last cigarette, instantly there was the inner battle of ‘should I go buy the last pack?’ then the notification appears on my phone ‘Caroline Myss - The Addict’ on my phone, after a second. 🤣 I burst out laughing and I chose not to go to the store (at least now). Talk about synchronicity

Otvos don't think about quitting for the rest of life. Just one day at a time or 1 hour at a time. Nicotine is as addicting as cocaine. So, you could listen to people with other addictions share how they have stayed drug free and get help for your desire to stop smoking.

You body loves you for your new craving. The craving to be different. Feel that love for yourself. I just commented that I quit weed after 4 decades. I am 67! I started streaming the Chosen series and I asked Jesus to help me. I quit Dec. 26th this year and I have had a couple of situations where sitting down with a joint would relieve my stress., but then I realized it's not what I wanted to do that anymore. I chose to believe Jesus is helping me...he called my name and redeemed me. I am grateful that he has never left my side when all things can come and go Jesus is always there. Blessings to your and your journey and having the courage to be different.

sweet well done Keep up to it! Remeber that it is just the habit, it is the "do I really need one extra cigaret? is it really going to make a positive change?" that is what helped me get over it, because I well knew the answer was "no" but actually asking myself if it was worth it in the long run rather then my sanity and wellbeing is (thank GOD for the Holy Spirit or our Right Mind) what really made me realize every single time, "the cigaret dose not really have a power over me, it is me which is giving that thing the power to decide over the fact that I even believe that a cigaret is going to really make me feel better". By giving up addictions, especially when you learn to do it for yourself, you would be much more able to understand yourself and those who even get to it even more, so LOTS OF LOVE and much Strength to you!

A Buddhist Master said that the goal of practice is to be able to be still in the face of one's own pain. Addiction is what happens to keep from being still, be present fully with whatever emerges I also think of Dr. Anna Lemke's book about the neurobiology of addiction, dopamine nation. The brain doesn't know the difference between heroin addiction, sex addiction, work addiction, or phone addiction. I believe humanity will move forward when our children learn that this solution to anxiety of living in this difficult world is not to turn to an addiction. I agree that we are only at the beginning but hopefully we are making a difference for the future.

It doesn’t stem from trauma. At least, not necessarily and definitely not always. There’s people that grew up in with sweet, gentle, understanding, compassionate, strong, honorable, well-respected parents and family … Addicts come out of those Pleasant and conducive atmospheres also. Addiction is an internal happening. Let’s not project everything elsewhere.

@@GourSmithI respect your opinion and we can agree to disagree. But I believe addiction stems from trauma- mostly childhood trauma. Dr. Gabor Mate’s book “ In the realm of the hungry ghosts” is all about the addiction- trauma connection. I’m not budging on this perspective. But we can agree to disagree.

Amazing and powerful message…shining light on addiction. Understanding that cravings also include complaining, living in chaos, always being in a state of woundoulogy, seeking power or craving approval is an addiction too. Transitioning from “love of power to power of love” of the soul-self creates a congruent, whole being. Mind blowing. Thank you Caroline.

Thank you so so much dear Carolyne, I just have quit cigarette (12 years smoking) only after realizing that it was a childish part of me, very wounded from traumas that was hurting itself (me) to soothe the unhealed sufferings. Brining this harmony between the mind and the heart is hard but so noble. We have to accept the suffering through the process by trusting it. Good luck to everybody, we’re indeed on the same boat ❤

addiction is always rooted in imbalances in the first and second chakras. it plays out in the 4,5 and 6th chakras. but true addiction is always rooted in 1 and 2 and is 99% of the time coming from abuse and/or trauma thats why with addiction there is the panic associated with not being able to have the thing you think will soothe you. craving and addiction are not the same. craving can come from the 3rd chakra but is different than addiction.

She said it beautifully around 19.29, if we don't have to think, we can avoid the internal conflict/issues. Which is often the most exhausting part of healing. The friction side of things. Que in numbing, excuses, sugar, addictions. Just found her on Gaia, she's helping me understand so much.

Wow! Whoa! Epiphany! I have appreciated and benefited from your teachings for decades. Every now and then your guidance and insight is particularly fitting for me. This video is especially so. The opening I felt within me regarding congruence or conflict between Mama, Papa and Baby Bear has forever shifted me into how I cope with my cravings. Thank you! This blessed and gifted me with a new prayer as I struggle to make a big change in my life that has me wrangling with my addiction to doubt, “can’t do” and so forth. Now I pray for help and grace to bring my head and heart into congruence so I can use my voice to benefit myself and others.

This is so great! Thank you for this video. I do not have any addictions. While watching, I realized that this archetype is active in my life in another way: I think I separated myself into body, spirit, soul, intellect, etc. and trying to match all my needs of every aspect of myself in one day, like reading is for the mind, sport is for the body, enlightment for the soul and so on, and after a really busy day I never felt any kind of accomplishment. That gives me the feeling, whatever I am doing it's never enough or the right thing or something is wrong with me. Your explanation of Congruent gives me the understanding of being all in one and if I read a book it's also good for my body, going for a walk is also good for my creativity, I never have to be concerned about time anymore or doing all the things all at once and having empty hands at the end of the day. Really 🙏 thank you. Understanding the archetypes is crucial to me! ❤

This is so helpful for my understanding of how hard it is for the wounded child to move towards healing. I have looked at this in myself and also others who struggle with it. I agree that healing happens when you look beyond the pain to see the beauty and kindness that exists in each one of us. I believe that finding common ground and connection is the pathway to healing. Thank you for presenting these messages on the archetypes . It is so interesting to me and it brings clarity and understanding to many of my and others behaviors .❤

11:15 summarizes it all in a nut-shell! "Cravings that are out of control and have authority over us!" So the remedy is to be vigilant from the very onset such that a "want" doesn't become so strong as to overpower our self-control! Self-control is the powerful protection against addictions! Therefore, we must shy away from whatever has the potential to compromise our capacity for self-control! "Be in the world without being entangled in the world!"

"When we keep our head and our heart in 2 different worlds = this is how addiction happens. When your head and your heart are aligned, you have a different experience with time and space, you actually do." Spot on i feel like im always running and lose hours, "your in a lock jam. that's why in healing it is essential to become congruent, get your head lined up with your heart, to make choices and not be in a lockjam." "[In healing, you have to get to a place that says 'you're right i am drinking eating thinking about eating because I'm wounded, and i have to face that, I have to admit that, and start aligning the two forces, so that the choices you make recognize that wound.]"

Dear Caroline ~ ✨ ✨ We met years ago and both your dear brother and Mom were at the workshop. 📿🙏🍃 The days were illuminating & fun - and I wasn't expecting the latter. 😊 Sending you blessings across the miles & time. And thanks for continuing to share your wisdom with us:🌍 Our beautiful Earth needs triage and healthy humans to rise up & bring it. Paz y luz, everyone. 🌼✨ Brett.
