Love wildflower gardens. They look good, attract pollinators, and you don't have to mow (often). I let 1/2 an acre of my lawn just go wild and just the seeds in the ground produce a nice succession of flower over the season, and even the grass once it goes to seed looks really nice.

I can bet his neighbors will be thanking him for the loss of those Malberry trees. And then replaced with beautiful flowers. We recently drove to South Florida. On I 24 and I 75, some of the large medians had a lovely spread of wild flowers. I think that most of them are in Tennessee. I did notice that several patches was all blue and some where multi colored. Can’t wait to see the results.

The Ventrac with the seeder is what I need for my 60' x 160' sunflower patch. Using a Chapin push seeder is a pain, and every time you hit even a small clump, it jams up.

It really helps to know when the utilities went in. If lines went in after the trees were in place the lines may be shallow. I had major problems with a phone line that crossed my property. It actually surfaced near one tree, didn't come anywhere near the easement for it and was not more than 8 inches deep anywhere. It was supposed to be 18 inches. I cut it many times with the first shovel of dirt. They finally put it in on the fence. Have put in wells nationwide and utility marking is not very good. Maps etc often don't show abandoned lines or some types of lines at all (drainage pipes) lines owned by the secret service or CIA (yes I have cut those multiple times). The well bit seems to find them easily. The rule is to have it marked and hand dig. Hand dig pits along the line to discover how deep it is then use your best judgement.,

Neighbor was happy i came over to enlarge his garden. Must easier with tractor and tiller than a smaller troybuilt. Whenever possible, i pick up and feather the ends and come back with an end row. Most gardens i service are larger and more open. I did relly like the way johnny x was sounding. Really nice purr to it.

Wow! Shocked! I get into tomato vines. Itching, swelling and reaction on my skin. Which I thought was odd for I can eat the tomato without problems. I thought I was alone for years until I learned that the vines are toxic. Cool to hear that the same thing happens to someone else. Not so alone now!

Absolutely perfect timing, Tim, as I'm looking to convert a big stretch of lawn into a pollenator- and deer-friendly zone. I'll check out the seed supplier for more info. Any suggestions for plants to keep the deer happy? Nice work demonstrating the implements, too. The more I can do with my new Kubota LX3310 the better I can justify its purchase to the queen. This video has given me much to consider. Thank you!

Am I the only one that loves mulberries? Delicious berries with absolutely no effort, those trees grow like weeds. The seeds can be annoying though. Like seeded grapes. I’m sure those flowers will be beautiful. Black-eyed Susan’s are great at reseeding. This is one of those projects that would be fun to see an update in the future.

Help! I have started getting hired to do tractor work. I recently pulled an estimated 15 tons of rock out of a customer's back yard. What's left is wet clay. Climate is central Texas. What would you recommend to mix into the soil (I think Sandy Loam?) and what would be the best tool to blend it in to make it really ready for sod? Is a tiller like this the right tool? I have a box blade for grading, but there is soooooo much clay.
@joshuaschneider3591
@joshuaschneider3591 2 жыл бұрын
I live on a property with plenty of clay and have taken a few soil science classes along the way. Organic matter, or better put, compost, is the ticket, but if lawn is the ultimate goal, a 50/50 blend of sand and compost works well. The two major keys to remember is that the clay needs to be dry enough to work (too dry is tough on equipment; too wet is a mess and everything gets stuck), and surface drainage needs to be well thought through to avoid ponding in heavy rain scenarios. A great source of advice would be your local extention office (Cornell runs all of ours across rural upstate NY). Generations of hard learned ag knowledge free to those who bother to knock on the door and ask... Good luck!

Maybe it's because I was raised by a farmer who grew up during the Great Depression. Maybe you work around the clock, I don't know, I've only seen a couple of your videos. Your equipment is top notch, which makes me think you will have to work the rest of your life doing these tiny jobs to justify the expense of the equipment. I hope I'm wrong and you enjoy every bit of a long life.

Larry, our situation is different than most. Most of our equipment is provided by sponsors. We do pay some for the tractors. Projects like this do not feed our family. Rather, our KZfaq presence pays the bills. We do not try to hide this. We intend to be totally transparent with our viewers.
