Could you do a special on the specialised airport (service) vehicles and their developing looks, from the 20s to present day? I was always mesmerised by the busy bees ballet of follow-me's, the fire engines, the luggage conveyor trucks, the stair trucks, the fuel engines, the passenger shuttle buses etc. They always had ultra low profiles, probably to allow them to quickly pass underneath aircraft bodies, tails and wings. Which gave each a futuristic look regardless the era. It is what I, as a kid and still, liked about building dioramas, centered around my latest crafted models, often complemented by squads of plastic jeeps and soldiers from my toys bucket.

Years ago I had a Janes book that featured the various types of airport equipment. Huge variety of vehicles, gadgets, radar gear, passenger and baggage handling gear, etc. Interesting subject!

The car and plane connection goes further. My friend used to work for Blackburn and helped on the Buccaneer and me being into motorsports he would show where aircraft technology would be passed down to Formula One. Also in the early days of motorsport the cars would use aero engines, that’s why when you look at old race cars the engines are huge, but engines like Hispano Suisa from aircraft are lightweight and powerful for obvious reasons in the air but also made great racing cars :) thanks again Mike and take care.

Another great episode, Mike. Just for the sailplane fans: the 2 gliders behind the GTO are an early Scheibe Zugvogel ("Migrating Bird") on the left, and a Göppingen Minimoa on the right. The latter were genuine pre-war pieces of art.

Great, great episode. Love all the ads with cars and aircraft together. All the Pontiac's are fabulous. And that '69 Mustang Mach 1 is such a beautiful design. A true "to die for" car. And, here's another one to add to the "Cars with Airplane Names" list, the Hudson Hornet / McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet. Outstanding effort as always Mike.

Another great episode Mr. Machat! Love each and every one! Cars and airplanes have been favorites of mine since I can remember. Born in 1955, I can remember the classic muscle cars of the 60's and 70's, as well as the stunning cars of the 50's, such as the iconic Stingray Corvette, and the 19578 Chevy Belaire. Loved the WWII aircraft, along with the Connie, 707, 747, and the unmistakable Learjet, All in all I would argue these modes of transportation and sport complimented each other, as well as augmented each other from time to time. As always God Bless you nad your family. Thank you for everything you do! Take Care Always Sir!

One of the best shaped American car designs to come out of the 1950s if not the best are the 1953-54 Studebaker coupes which include the pillarless Starliner and the five-window Starlight. According to the book, "Studebaker" (The Postwar Years) by Richard M. Langworth, Bob Bourke (chief designer and engineer of the (Raymond) Loewy group) commented "In designing the clay model (of the 1953 Studebaker coupes) I took much inspiration from the Lockheed Constellation aircraft, whose contours I admired. The general nose-down feel of the fuselage in particular was reflected in the front fender and hood contours."

One only has a past if he's been living. Getting a Mach1 is really livin' the life! Something you can talk about in later years. Hey! I had a '66 Tripower GTO. How about that, I must have been livin' the life and have something to show for my youth.

GREAT stuff as always. I've loved cars and airplanes since before I can actually remember. So many parallels, and you covered them so well. Love that Studebaker Hawk at Spotter's Hill; for the Vette/Jet photos, I prefer the one with you, your buddy and his 66 and the F-104 in the background over the C4 and two-seat F-16. So much fun info and comparisons here. As always thank you and keep up the great work!

Great job Mike Love the 70 Mustang you posted, had a 70 Mach 1 with a shaker and a hurst 4 speed in my early 20’s, miss that car. You know the Cords you posted were front wheel drive and had a Lycoming V8. Love the picture of the Republic team on the Model T, I see Belinger in there. I know there’s probably a picture of him next to him old 38 Rolllston Packard and an airplane somewhere 😂 You know he covered the dash in dual gauges to mimic a plane Conrad

The 2nd gen Corvette had aerodynamic styling but not the best aero shape. The high point of the nose made a lot of front end lift when it was raced. Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov said in interviews that the C2 “had the aerodynamics of a bad airplane”.

Thank you for another excellent and informative video. I looked all over in the shot of the parking lot around LAX for that Austin Healy. No joy. I did, however, spot a white MGA with what looks like a tonneau cover a couple rows back in the middle of the frame. Only reason I felt compelled to bring it up was because I had an MGA back in the day. Upgraded it to an MGB engine (should'a replaced the clutch at the same time - oh well).

Another great one Mike. So my question is how does the artist manage to pull off the high gloss shine on the cars? Airbrush or, combination of techniques? Or do they just finish up with a coat of high quality hand rubbed car wax, lol. All were stunners, but my fav was the Red-Orange GTO, I had a Pontiac Sunbird that color once. For some reason I never got around to commenting on the last several posts though I watched them all. Really enjoyed the artistic license one. Did not do as well on the aviator quiz as previous quizzes, but learned a lot. Enjoyed seeing the Soviet Cold War Era passenger craft in the video about boarding systems. Funny how the Soviet era airliners all had glass noses, I assume so they could be easier repurposed for military use, or was it the other way around -military planes converted to passenger liners. Know that the time and knowledge you put into each post is admired and appreciated, Mike.

I forgot about the program to buy a car at discounted prices in the military. I think that went away not long after I entered service (6/89-6/98), but I never had an overseas assignment, so maybe not. I've always been an airplane guy; not so much a car guy. But I recently got back into building plastic models and am building both aircraft and cars. Currently on the bench is Heinemann's Hot Rod (A4-M) and a '72 Nova SS. Peace and love.
