Mitsubishi Triton 2024 review: New diesel 4x4 and 4x2 L200 ute targets Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max

The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton mid-size ute is finally here and it has a tall task ahead of it: conquering the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max on the sales charts, which is easier said than done. But the next-generation model is new from the ground up, so it's coming armed with the latest technology.
Specifically, the new Triton is headlined by a twin-turbo version of its predecessor's 2.4-litre diesel four-cylinder engine, with 150kW of power (+17kW) on offer alongside 470Nm of torque (+40Nm). That said, the six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission remains available alongside 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrain options, with the latter coming with the 'Super Select 4WD II' drive modes.
So, in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Andrew Chesterton gets behind the wheel of the new Triton range to see if it has what it takes to break into the Top Three.

No A/C vents in the back and AD Blue !! Front looks terrible dint think they could make the triton look worse.. thanks for reinforcing my choice with the X Terrain....

I'm looking for a new car. This is top of my list...BUT. I've had 2 over the past few years. The Automatic was glorious EXCEPT towing. I pull 3.5ton regularly and the L2000 Auto transmission would overheat on inclines very quickly and go into limp. NOT good with a clients horses in the trailer. As it was only when towing a heavy load the warrantee was invalid??????? and could only be fixed wit a £1500 modification. HAS THIS BEEN ADDRESSED??

The Dmax has it as a $500 option not sure with Triton. Stupid as it should be part of it... My 10 year old VF commodore has more features than this thing.

USA block Mitsubishi name marketing in America,that why in America Mitsubishi using dodge RAM Chrysler as the American Mitsubishi

The problem of this new Ute is that cost similar now to the competition. And people would jump to the competition if the price is same.

It just depends on if the buyer is smart enough , while most people idolize the ranger, most of them that brag, ends up with the 2.0 bi turbo model, the triton 2.4 mivec engine is superior in every way to a bi turbo ranger The triton also has full time awd , which means you can drive it around 4wd consistently, compared to like a hilux where 4wd is only for offroading. Running in 4wd is much safer since utes have a tendency of losing control in wet weather. I have seen isuzu d max totally written off because of wet roads and losing traction D max , navara are synonymous for running off the road in wet conditions, Having a fylull time 4wd system is much safer for a ute , since the rear is normally lighter than the front. Then it has Mitsubishi reliability that is superior to ford in every way. Wont have to worry about a blown engine @ 60 000k

When you say more technology you just lost me,the problem with all these new 4x4s is that they try to make them more like a car and that is just not what we need or want.Working a lot in remote Australia all this tech is more things to go wrong.

Aparently the "alert" camera that makes a noise if you nod off doesnt work well at night and its a nightmare to drive... Stick with Dmax or Hilux

There is no doubt this is a better Triton. But, at what cost? if you take base increase price and servicing charges over 10 years, doesn’t look that attractive. With Toyota and Ford running out after five years, you can find aftermarket servicing to save 0:15 50%. I understand Costs go up, but this is not so attractive anymore. Mitsubishi was competing with the top Chinese brands at the higher end, but now it’s trying to compete with Toyota & Ford. Personally I would find a few extra dollars on a personal loan and get a Ford.

Why number three , Mitsubishi is the number One oldest Japanese car and Mitsubishi also got so many engineers in various industries the biggest largest manufacturer heavy machinery ship rocket jet aeroplane and many many big small things that why Mitsubishi car is greatest champion and perfect, holding awards best engine diesel MIVEC of the years, holding Guinness books of world record so Mitsubishi must be number One in the world interm of driving performance handling stablity cornering driffting sliding manuvering sterling breaking advance Technology futuristic gearbox design feature mode

Ford ranger and Toyota Hilux is much expansive then Mitsubishi Triton but Mitsubishi Triton is very very very very good better perfect then Ford and Toyota , Mitsubishi have ability to built high standards of car but the price must be also higher cost highest Technology, so Mitsubishi is the greatest number One in the world holding tittle Guinness books of world record offroad rally championship ,so Ford and Toyota still left behind to prove it better then Mitsubishi,i Said so because rally dakar defending champion is Mitsubishi pajero and Axcr cross country rally Thailand to cambodia also Mitsubishi Triton the champion

@@__PJ__ Isuzu D-MAX is faster only when it Was do modification with bigger engine turbo like what they do in Thailand drag races, but in stock original from japan Isuzu D-MAX no enough power to running very fast, the issue of Isuzu D-MAX when it comes ten years old and more is absorber bush,fuel pump, exaust booster

@@user-bi3ys3ho3d Exactly, a simple tune done in an hour or two and its better. And yes its an old but BULLETPROOF motor which we need here in Australia. If I want to drag or go fast I would just drive my Supercharged HSV R8 ;)

Mitsubishi Triton is number one not number three, the best advance gearbox tranmission futuristic technology modern design features ultimate driving performance handling maneuver cornering stability comfortable only 2.4 liters engine but can win the Cross country Rally Thailand to cambodia championship beat Ford raptor even though Ford bigger engine but loose behind to Mitsubishi Triton
