The 2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan N is on a mission to become the benchmark for mainstream sports sedans of the small variety. In its way is the perennial Subaru WRX, which has led the way for decades - but time's are changing. After all, where's the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution? It's long gone.
In its latest attempt at relevancy, the i30 Sedan N has been given a facelift, which ushers in sharper looks both front and rear, as well as a new set of 19-inch forged alloy wheels and "motorsport-inspired" chassis tweaks, including upgraded ESC software and hardware - and that's just the highlights.
So, in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis gets behind the wheel of the face lifted i30 Sedan N at its Australian launch to see if it has what it takes to truly take the title of hottest entry-level four-door. Its 206kW/392Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine and eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission will surely help!

I absolutely love this glorious head turner, it screams "look at me", and not everyone will be mad about the design, but at least it dares to make a statement in this current dreary era of huge boxy vehicles. This is a winner for me, great review 😊

Just a point. The light bar is not full width. It's just a chrome strip in the middle of the lights.

You mentioned that this car has adaptive cruise control...but it doesn't have ACC...Australia missed out on this, while Korean spec got it for '24 model.

Currently have the cerato GT My23 thinking of trading it in for the i30n sedan facelift but not having adaptive cruise control is actually a massive problem do u know if they will add that later on? perhaps a mid life cycle update?

@@satinder4367No one knows, but my guess is it will be a 2025 update. Personally it doesn't both me. You use ACC and get stuck behind some slow driver. The car is meant to be driven. I can see how it would be useful if you maybe do a lot of highway driving.

It does have ACC. I test drove one, the other day. I'm looking at buying one, and the was a deal breaker if it didn't have it.

It's very clear that the Australian version is the exact version of the Korean spec. I do prefer the North American spec, though (the seats have a sportier look). The seats are manually adjusted, though, which was a choice to slim off additional weight versus the powered seats. MSRP in Canada will most likely be around the $42k CAD mark (plus tax, 13% in Ontario). My current lease is up this December, so I'm definitely upgrading to the Elantra N 2024. I'm driving a 2022 base model (6 speed manual), paying $72.00 weekly.

The US seats are much cooler. We get them in Aus on the facelift i30N hatch

Yes! Mine is also like that! I had to do a double take and check both sides to make sure it was normal. You would only notice it from that particular low angle, so it's a non-issue, to me at least.

It's a bit annoying TBH. You have to turn it off everytime the car turns on. Occasionally it's been helpful when I genuinely did not know the speed limit. But it cant detect school zone times. It doesnt matter if it's not a school time, the car will beep at you each time you pass a school zone, telling you that you should be going 40kmh.

@@jessexiIt's pretty significant, not sure why it was left out. Also, not much mention of bluelink, probably because he didn't have it linked to his personal phone. Bluelink is amazing for 2024, and makes me forget about the speed limit warnings. I've been remotely starting the car with aircon on and seat coolers on when it's hot. I forgot to lock the car the other day, and bluelink sent me a notification to my phone saying the car was not locked - so I just locked it remotely. Then it gives you a notification advising that the lock was successful. Also has GPS so I can locate the car and track it if I get lost in the car park! Also can check how much petrol I've got left and start valet mode remotely. Pretty awesome and handy.

It's a competitor to the Honda Civic Type R as well. In North America, that is, and for substantially less ($10k CAD less)

I have the 23 nline. I think the previous look was more aggressive for the i30 which I liked. It looks more like a kia stinger in the front now

It's not just about the looks. It's the improved airflow to provide less air friction. I'm getting the 2024 Elantra N for sure.

Too much cheap plastic and piano black … why don’t car manufacturers learn that it makes a huge difference in look and feel for very little cost

The pre face lift (22-23) looks better.. design is more cohesive.. this version looks like they shoe horned the sonata front end on it, the bonnet don’t match the front properly.. get the pre face lift 22-23 and fit powerflex bushings and better car.. its lights too the old shape

At 6:08 of the video is reported that car has 16.3 cubic feet or 464 liters of trunk or boot space. This is the typical FAKE GOURMET sedan, the one that comes ready to be swallowed by an SUV. In the ranking of decent sedans (TOP 500 SEDANS) with a trunk capacity above 500 liters or 17.6 cubic feet it does not enter.
