Here is the final video in our 1948 GMC Truck restoration series. Stay tuned to the end for the grand reveal! This video is a summary of the entire rebuild process. We started with an extremely rusty and dented classic pickup. After an engine swap and extensive rust and dent repair, it's finally looking like a truck again!
Shout out to @coldwarmotors for providing me with this fine specimen. Please check out Scott's channel and the GMC recovery videos here:

For sure, the 'one hour of work for one minute of video' theory needs to be put to the test. That would make a great video in and of itself. Many times I have shared your dream, that of buying a hopeless rusty pile, and flipping it for a huge loss. But we are so much more than that, we are the elite. Those of us who not only lose money, but waste copious amounts of hours planning, labor, and supplies to do so. Sometimes nothing in life compares with the joy of watching the taillights of the last year of our life's work going away down the street for the last time. And squeezing that satisfying, tiny little lump of folded cash and dreaming of the future. Meanwhile, I think I'd be loading the remains of that blue cab up on a trailer and take it back to Scott and try for at least a partial refund....

I have been following the rehab of the GMC and enjoyed it thoroughly. My uncle who was an truck driver all his life, told me a story once when he was at a car/truck factory. Who the manufacturer was I forget. He was waiting for his load to be taken off so he had some time to kill. He toured the final assembly area where they fitted the doors to the cabs. He noticed that when the doors came from the stamping area they weren't curved enough to fit the door opening well. The fellas showed him how they put the curve into the doors. One of the men braced the top of the door with his arms outstretched against the top of the window frame. The other workman had a huge wooden mallet which he proceeded to bash the inside of the door. It all looked so primitive and brutal. But it got the desired result. The door fit the opening perfectly. Or as close to perfect as they could manage. I guess when you hit enough doors into submission you get pretty good at it. They also showed how they take twist out the doors. Equally brutal.

Thank you for letting us see the entire process in a shortened version. I ate enough rust for two lifetimes, so sometimes I had to fast forward some of your detailed repair viedos. But I learned quite s bit. Every one makes things a bit differently. I asked myself to many times: Why not cutting here, why not doing that first? But at the end I had to admit more than once that your way was often a bit smarter than the way I would have done it.

Kyle, your vids on this truck have been great, informative and funny as heck. I'm a old truck guy so it's right up my alley. No need to reply...you're a busy dude. One request though...maybe more vintage trucks? Ford? IH? Fargo? Dodge? O0h...28/29 Ford Model A RPU would be nice.

Thanks Eric! I've already done a couple 28-29 Rpu's before youtube, but I do have a 28 roadster that needs a lot of work.

I watched what all you did here, reflecting on a late 80's GMC Sierra stepside that my dad owned and kept WELL. Good on you for the work you put in.

I’m amazed at the amount of work you have accomplished in such a short time. This transformation is truly amazing. You Sir should be proud. Few would’ve bothered let alone gotten it done to this high level in such a short time. A “Professional Body Shop “ would have taken at least twice as long with a couple guys working and had “ unexpected costs “ along the way tripling the original quote.
