I had a 2004 G35 sedan with a 6 speed manual - the only new car I’ve ever bought! I owned it for 11 years and put 232,000 miles on it with exceedingly minimal issues, just a new set of valve covers that were leaking and routine maintenance. It was still running strong - on the ORIGINAL clutch no less - when I sold it. Fantastic and really fun car!

These older Infinitis were built to such poor standards that all the Gs and Ms have these cracking dash issues, warped rotors, flimsy automatics, loads of traction control module issues, high nvh levels,... The last gen M/Q70 and the Q50 are the best Infinitis and Nissans for the past 3 decades or so. They dont brittle and brake into pieces at least.

Love my G35. RWD, manual, handles and stops great, has nearly 300hp, reliable, under $20k. I don't think any other car ticks all those boxes. Has been pretty reliable aside from a couple stuck brake calipers, cooling fan and a window motor. Trunk leaks and is starting to rust out. Tried sealing up different spots with RTV but no luck. I'll probably just drill some weep holes and slap on some high solids paint and call it a day.

The g35s had more aggressive factory exhausts. When the g37s came out they were made to be more luxurious so they made the factory exhausts very quiet. But with a quality exhaust the 3.7 sounds better and it’s a better engine all around.
@robertm5969
@robertm5969 4 ай бұрын
G35s are very reliable for their performance. That being said, common issues to look for are: - excessive oil burn. Piston ring wear can cause blow by. Monitor oil level at 1000mi intervals to calculate oil loss and top up as necessary. As long as you keep it topped up the engine is bulletproof. - sticky clutch pedal. Clutch line location can experience excessive heat. Upgrade to DOT4 clutch fluid and replace every 5 years. - misfiring. Coil packs should be replaced at 70k miles, before recommended interval. Do spark plugs while you're in there. - front suspension bushings. Replace with more robust bushings if handling is sloppy, or if you see signs of excessive camber. - axle "clacking" noise. Grease rear axles with molykote grease. To make your life a lot easier, replace the stock undercarriage cover with an aluminum cover with access panel. Then you just need to remove 2 bolts instead of 12+ to change your oil/filter. Also for a "free" performance upgrade, use an Apexi intake air filter. Dyno results have shown they have as good or better gains as Z tubes on stock engines.

I bought my wife a new 2013 Infiniti EX37 which is the smallest "SUV". The 3.7 is 325hp, 7 speed auto, and rear wheel drive. It hauls butt! She has only put about 56k miles on it so far and it's garaged every night. It looks new underneath and everywhere else. She loves it and says she will never get rid of it. Zero problems with it so far! Oil changes, cabin air filter, intake air filter, tires, two batteries, and rear brake pads are all the maintenance items so far.

Amazing cars to drive. Own a 2009 G37 XS sedan myself with about 170k miles. They're bulletproof as long as fresh fluids are in the engine n transmission. Too bad a lot of them are in the hands of bad owners that dis-tastefully mod and crash them. I feel they could become a future classic when too many of them are taken out.

The SEM color bond paint actually works pretty well. Getting a match is tricky but I hear some distributors can do a match. I just buy it off the rack. For a dash it will hold up just fine. Clean the part with alcohol or spray away to get the mold release off of it. Hit it with the light scotch brite pad and clean again. Let the part sit in the sun to warm up just a bit then spray light coats. That paint is pretty light on pigment on purpose. Thin light coats and let the vehicle flash off. This preserves any texture. Takes generally three coats but again they are thin. You are gonna think the can did not mix but that’s just how it is. You may need two cans to do a dash cap like that.

Keep an eye on the front lower control arm bushings and the front compression rod/arm bushing. These tend to fail and can cause clunking and alignment issues. I can tell the front lower shock bushing is collapsing from your vid. I know you like OEM grade, but Nissan doesn’t sell only the bushings. I have a 350Z and went with Whiteline Poly Bushings. No noticeable change in NVH, suspension just feels tighter. Love these pre-2010 Nissans. Great cars, very reliable and affordable when taken care of. Edit: Also, check the differential subframe bushing. The factory bushing is fluid filled and tends to crack and leak. This causes massive slop and movement in the drivetrain. I recommend Whiteline Poly differential bushings. No NVH issues with these.

I’ve done the spacer and ran without and you gain mid but loose up top. Porting and polish the plenum and lower manifold and you’ll see better gains with no loss. I took mine out and won’t put it back. If you want more torque get a plenum off a vq40de out of a pathfinder and you’ll be happier with the results. I’m rebuilding the same car as a drift car. I laugh when people talk crap bc these are awesome street cars to have fun with. They sound good if you keep a single exit with mufflers. Enough power to have fun but not too much to get in trouble constantly.

My FX45 is such a great car. I’m keeping it stock. I’m keeping it the way Infiniti engineers designed it. It’s in great shape, garaged and it drives like a sports car. If you do the maintenance on these older Infiniti’s like the G or FX, they’re solid cars. For it’s 2003 age, I’m planning to fill in some small paint chips, fix a small seat rip, repaint a small scratch on the rear bumper, and possibly restore and blackout the exterior pillars cause they’re oxidized a bit. Everything else is great.

Has a tick but runs strong. Since I’m tired of the tick, I’m swapping a low engine and cd009 manual transmission into it which is very easy on these cars.

I've had 3 Infiniti cars and put a lot of miles on them. The Late 90's through about 2013 Infiniti out out some very underrated cars. G35, M35, G37, M37 and FX37 were pretty fun to drive. Above average reliability as well. (Not Lexus reliability but definitely way better than German luxury. (Here's where the German lovers trash me.)

I have had 3 of these. 2008 G37, 2010 G37x, and a 2013 G37x, I loved them all, the 2008 had a snappy throttle that they fixed by the 2010 and 2013 the throttle and acceleration was smoothed out. Im always looking online for 2013 g37x just because I love them so much. Maintenance is cheap if you do it yourself and the VQ is very durable and powerful plenty of room to boost as many have done. I prefer stock, Also the brake system is really good stock.

I love my 2007 sedan with the updated engine as well. Bought it 6 years ago for 6k at 110k miles and just hit 160k miles. All I did was battery, tires and AC recharge in addition to the major service at time of purchase. Like yours it’s a shame the paint is aging and interior leather started to rip and dash has crack lines, but drives strong and is so hassle free. I love it as a daily alongside my 2 Ferraris 2 lambos and 3 Porsches!

Got an FX37 for my mom, basically a lifted G37 wagon....plan on getting an M37 or M56 next. I agree they don't sound great with aftermarket exhausts, best thing to do is open up the intakes, sounds amazing without being obnoxious.

You need to be careful modifying the suspension on one end. Take it to a Kmart parking lot and drive at the same speed in a circle. If it makes a larger circle every time around, it's understeering. If it makes a smaller circle, it's oversteering. You can modify the suspension to make the same circle every time which is called neutral steering.

@@williamwhite9767 stiffening the rear sway bar on these cars is a terrible idea. You would be best off removing it entirely. I run mine disconnected most of the time. All Japanese car companies got hit hard in the 90s when Japan's economy collapsed. Toyota and to a lesser extent Mitsubishi were held aloft by their industrial wings but everyone else had to take on massive debt and slash costs to survive. Nissan delayed that too long and almost pulled it out but ultimately had to slash costs as well which resulted in some really poor engineering choices made by the bean counters. Decisions such as the combined engine radiator/trans cooler units and integrated exhaust manifold/catalytic converter on truck platforms ruined reputation of the Titan & Armada just as they were finally starting to gain market share. Such a shame because aside from those two major problems the Titan is a darned good truck, but having random grenading of engine is a deal breaker. THEN bean counters struck again with the Titan XD. They wanted to get into HD trucks but bean counters decisions made it a compromise nobody wanted. Had they just made the XD their "normal" half-ton rhey could have claimed class leading in every stat, then alongside that built a 1.5 ton truck (optional dually) and called it class leading 3/4 and 1 tons.

I commented on one of your past videos about the Expeditions that my father and I own. My father does a lot of driving for work with his 2010 and they also use it for long distance vacations. It's about to hit 375k miles and besides routine maintenance and replacing the timing chain (just as a precaution) about 200k miles ago, it runs and drives like new. It even has the same transmission. He changes the oil and filter every 3k miles religiously. My 2012 only has 47k miles and I'm also maintaining it well. I know you hate these engines, but as long as they're maintained better than what the manual says, they'll last a long time.

I cant imagine any functional car driving any worse than that car, even if you dump a million miles into it.

Great video, Wizard. With regard to the dash panel, you need to paint it to match the interior. Take the car to a body shop supply store and have them match the interior color with paint chips. They can then mix up the color and put it in a spray can. They have the satin finish paint that will work with plastic. I just did this on one of my cars and the paint was a perfect match. Keep up the great work.

You're right, most have been Riced/Raced/Wrecked. I'm the original owner of my 05 G35 6 speed Manual transmission.with the Rev Up Motor . I will never sell it and will be passed down to my oldest son..As time goes on, you'll find most of the bushings will have to be replaced. The motor is bulletproof as long as the oil has been changed in a timely manner. This is a very enjoyable car that will not breakdown but instead wear down. The exhaust muffler will eventually start rusting to the point it needs replacing. Tanabe Medallion is what I recommend. Very high quality at an affordable price. I put a dash cover from Cover Craft to cover the cracked dash. Recommend Mevotech Supreme for your ball joints and control arms. White line for your rear differential bushing. This car will give you loads of smiles while driving the miles.😊

They sounded fantastic, they looked good, the power output was pretty good for the time. They really had it all. Lightning seemed to strike not twice, but three times when they introduced the M45 sedan with the V8 and then again with the G37 refresh that tightened up an already stunning and hnderstated design. I was super sad to see Nissan and Infiniti start to go downhill over the years after that. I really hope they come back sometime in the near future.
