The CF straps are a bit pricey when you look at those handmade wallets. Its a shame you don't want to make straps yourself but a caseback branded strap with the logo on the outside would be amazing.

Tim, you are the polar opposite of a fashion journalist. I love that you show the briefcase on your cutting surface! The shoulder strap is built around a canvas core in order to stop it stretching. It's a feature, not a bug. The watch strap logo should be on the inside. Showing branding on a watch face is bad enough!
@CasebackWatches
@CasebackWatches 3 жыл бұрын
I like the contrast of colors on the cutting sheet ;-) Canvas: Yes, it can be seen as a feature but it also allows to use a thin leather strap. You can do it perfectly fine without canvas, but then you need a belt like strap. Very expensive, because it must be cut in one direction from the hide. Stretch is then minimal, but I can fully understand why manufacturers try to avoid that way.

@@CasebackWatches If I might put my 'Textile Technologist's' hat on for a minute: You both made interesting points. A 'plain weave' man-made fibre fabric could stop 'stretch', but for the loads we're talking about, it would be hardly measureable; Polyester would be best, Nylon, not so good. I would say the main reason for the 'lining' is to stop 'staining' on light coloured clothing. In sunny conditions, with an air temperature of 30°C, the temperature of textiles and leather can easily reach 60°C. If that seems crazy, try it, using an 'infra-red' heat sensor. I don't know how much colour leather would 'give-up' at that heat, but in humid conditions I think it could be very problematic. Btw. I hope they didn't use nylon for that 'lining', because at 60°C, Nylon opens it's 'pores' and starts 'giving out' and 'taking in' colour like mad. Ask any female in your house who accidentally put their white nylon trimmed 'undies' in with the coloured 60°C wash.

Thank you Tim. Maybe for Caseback Straps, you might find it more fun if it's a chance to experiment with exotic leather, like Ostrich. Also yes, the branding should be inside please. As an old man (64 now), I eventually settled on wallets with chains that clip to my belt. I guess I look like a biker but I just need a little more security. My wallet's quality isn't the equal of yours but at least it doesn't get away from me! I've learned to replace and service the chain as it's the weak point in the one I purchased. But the actual wallet, if not the equal of yours, is at least pretty good. It's nice to see your fine leather work, very nice video.

For me your logo should be outside of the strap. But you could also do both and let the market decide! Or… I don’t know if that is possible, but maybe that could be of an individual choice. Maybe you could brand a strap that is ready based on customers’ choice?

Really great to have a proper review of this brand from someone who knows their leather goods. They have been sending free bags to youtubers for years and you just get obsequiously positive reviews that can't be trusted. TGV used to bang on about this company all the time but it was obvious they kept sending him free stuff. I think that is a little overpriced to be honest, i've seen just as nice for less. I'll stick with my beautiful vintage Marforio bag from Venice that unbelievably I found in a skip/dumpster. Stitching needed some work and the strap was broken but it was easily repaired. (Marforio is closed now but their gorgeous dragon and umbrella sign is still there - it's worth a google).

I prefer the Friedrik bag in terms of design and the top quality Italian leather. I think the "handmade" bag is nice, but it has not aged well. I have a 70 year old "handmade" samsonite briefcase I inherited from my Father, and it still looks amazing. Overall, the Friedrik bag may also not age well, but at that pricepoint, who cares?

Suggestion: next time you measure something bigger like that, do the conversion for those of us who live in countries that don't believe in using unit systems that make sense, and say the measurement in inches as well. I'm American. Obviously I know the metric system just fine, but I can't think in it. If you tell me it's 33°C out, I don't know whether that's just warm or whether it's hot without doing the conversion to Farenheit. If we are riding in a car, I can look out the window and give a decent guess as to speed in MPH, but would need to do a conversion to do it in KPH. So I can't really picture what 39cm looks like without converting it. Freaking imperial system. So ridiculous. 12inches in a foot. 5280ft in a mile. 3ft in a yard. Why? Why's it all so arbitrary?

Wow, CF really are hitting the watch channels hard from a marketing perspective. Oisin at Timeless Watch Channel received some swag and did a strap give away. TGV had a 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗽 of stuff - all boldly monogrammed with his initials (of course...) - and his upload was a...'review' of a suitcase. He informed us all that it was nothing but 'pure class', of course. It was absolutely odious. So; it 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 was refreshing to see an 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 of the product CBTim. Thank-you. Very much. Re. the watch straps. That would be great! I'd like to see the cobra on the outside, but only if it was near the end of the strap, and discreetly applied. Above the buckle perhaps? Or close to the point of the strap (so...just the tip please Tim).
@michaelbedford8017
@michaelbedford8017 3 жыл бұрын
What TGV fails to recognise is that by using the phrase 'pure class', he immediatley consigns himself to the trashcan. (gentleman forsooth!). I've only known one true gentleman in my life, but it's enough to know one thing: It's not something you can either 'put on' or 'get rid of'. If Queen Elizabeth WERE sent one of these briefcases, I somehow can't hear her saying 'Pure class that'. :)
