Carl Friedrik Leather Briefcase Review - Carl Friedrik is known for using timeless design and time-honored craftsmanship. They asked us to review and give our thoughts on the Palissy bag; however, we had something else in mind. It's very important that Vachetta and other untreated, vegetable-tanned leathers are cared for properly. Carl Friedrik, and other high-end brands, use Vachetta leathers on their goods. Today, I give step-by-step instructions on how I care for these leathers.

I’m anxious to see the natural patina that builds on this bag as I continue to use it. What particular methods/products do you all use on your vachetta or other veg-tanned leather products? We’d love to hear your routines. 👍

I use a lot of Bick 4 in general because it conditions pretty well and doesn't darken at all.

I have used coconut oil on my vachetta leather good. Not just any coconut oil. Must be organic, and very thin coat and wipe off completely.

Hi Trent.I Just picked up a pair of brown loafers at the salvation Army with a type of woven pattern on the uppers . I'm using the knowledge you've imparted on us now when looking for shoes at thrift stores. I was wondering what would be the best way to polish them without getting excess polish in the crevices. A Brush or a cloth ? I think these will be great for summer. Also curious as to what kind of hair products you use to keep your hair so impeccably styled.

I recently bought on ebay a Bree tan leather pouch. It's vintage as they say. And there's 2 or 3 light stains and a few light scratches from use of course. I want to try and get it clean. But I'm not sure what to use. I have Apple Brand Leather cleaner and I have Bickmore saddle soap plus. The plus part being lanolin. The Bree website does have care instructions but, I don't speak german. I just want to make it look as good as possible without darkening it too much past it's somewhat light honey color. What would you suggest?

I have a boot question, and possibly a pair of boots to send for repair. I bought a pair of Nicks Boots, customs because I have different size feet. They fit like a glove! But I can't wear them for more than an hour so in turn cannot break them in. No one looked at my arches when measuring my feet, not did they tell me about the extremely high arch in Nick's Boots. I there a way to lower the arch at all? Or to make it not so... Sharp? It's a shame to have a $500 pair of boots thatI can't sell (custom fit) and can't even break in

What leather brushes and polish applicators do you prefer? The thumbnail shows you with a long bristle horsehair brush, who makes the best?
@TrentonHeath
@TrentonHeath 3 жыл бұрын
As far as horsehair brushes go, we have ours made for us in Germany. They’re very high quality. As far as applicators go, we sometimes use dauber brushes, as well as apply creams with old shirts wrapped around our fingers.

How often to you recommend treating with a protector spray. I use Tarrago Nano on my dress shoes and nice sneakers, but only about once a year. Some sit in the closet for a long while, too. I don’t treat my casual shoes and boots, but should I use the spray on them after conditioning, too?
@TrentonHeath
@TrentonHeath 3 жыл бұрын
Every now and then, flick some water drops onto the leather. If it beads up and doesn’t absorb into the leather, it’s still protecting. If it absorbs, allow those drops to dry and then apply more weatherproofing spray. As far as your shoes go, it definitely wouldn’t hurt to spray them.

What do you mean when you say that this leather is “untreated”? Aren’t the tanning and dying and finishing process “treatment”? What “treatments” are used on lower-quality leathers?
@TrentonHeath
@TrentonHeath 3 жыл бұрын
Dyeing the leather isn’t treating the leather. It’s merely a color being applied to the leather. Natural Veg tanned is strictly the tanning process using plant based tannin; unlike chrome dyed leathers which use chemicals to treat the leather. Some veg tanned leather goes on to receive oils and other additives, like English bridle leathers. Vachetta is basically a creamy white veg tanned leather. This allows for the leather to develop its own patina. Louis Vuitton uses a lot of undyed vachetta leather on many of their bags. I hope this answer helps.
