the most appealing player for the 2c with the age. a player on the softer side of the spectrum but he is skilled and productive with out pp. no issues from me giving up byram for him but like stated does buffalo want to give him up? they have kept indicating no

I don't know if we really have the leading asset to sway the Sabres. If it's Byram so what are they really going to be interested? They've got Dahlin and Owen Power locked up long-term. I also don't think they'd want our 1st round picks they already have their core group and now that core group just has to grow up a little bit before they are competitive.

If the avs get him for shipping out byram (plus whatever minor pieces are included to make the gms happy idrk) all they need to do is find a way to shed ryjo's contract in the summer and they could feasibly sign him for up to 5 mil over the summer. Don't think it necessarily has to be a summer deal, I think the big issue is finding a way out of ryjo's contract, not sure if that's something that can get done by the deadline, but if that's possible then we could definitely make a move for depth D or even someone like hanifin to fill Byram's spot.

I feel like Ryjo's contract shouldnt be too bad for any team to pick up if they want him. Hes still a great player, just not in our system. He seems like he prefers a slow, heavy-hitter kind of system whereas the Avs are all about speed. Honestly... The first team that comes to mind that i think would be a good fit is Arizona.

Nice call, guys. Casey is much improved in the last season and a half, all due to his perseverance. He's a puck hound, good on the boards and backcheck, excellent at puck protection. Sees the ice well, and is a good passer. Decent shot that he needs to use more. He'll be excellent at 2C behind Mack. Sabres are selling high on him and I expected more. We don't need a 22 year-old who just makes the youngest team in the league younger, regardless of his potential. Dahlin and Power make Byram's skill set redundant in the top-4. He'll be, at best a PP2 option, and only if he can displace Power. A willing fighter with a serious concussion history is scary for him and his team.

You don't get Bo to have him fight, let's be real honest. He's not that good, and it makes no sense with his history. But with some opportunity in front of him he could be a real 1D/2D level player if he hits his ceiling. Watch some of the 2022 SCF and I swear he outplayed Makar. He's struggling this year with it being his first full year without long injury and playing most of the time on his off-side, but he's set to take a big leap next year with a bunch of young guys and leadership group he can be a part of. He's a big personality, real positive, goofy, everyone loves him, and he has the experience to take your team all the way. This is a sneaky good addition to an already good team

Easily the player I’m the most interested in at the deadline. Overpay for the guy, who cares-he’s an immediate roster upgrade heading into the playoffs and potentially solves the 2C problem for years to come. Take the gamble!

Mittelstadt is a beast. He can play up and down the lineup, center and wing - is an elite passer and protects the puck like a hawk. As a Sabres fan, you guys got a fantastic player. I think time will show Colorado will win this trade...

when you say "closer to a kadri-like 2C" do you mean 2022 Kadri where he puts up absolutely insane numbers that are close to a 1C or Kadri every other year where he puts up decent 2C numbers? Because I can tell you one of those things takes up around 8 mil in cap space

Man, I’m just not comfortable losing Byram because of Manson’s injury struggles and Girard’s struggles in the playoffs and with the physical game. The Avs would need to acquire another really good defenseman, and they don’t have the cap space to do it.

Girard was the best defenseman on the team last year in the playoffs, and has been laying the body all year. I think people need to leave him alone, he's probably one of the best 3D in the league

@@ruskokollektiv5457, Toews was probably better against Seattle. He had 1 goal and 8 assists and was +5. Girard had no goals and 2 assists and was -4. Girard has been better since returning, but I don’t know if he’s the best third defenseman in the league. I’d say Alec Martinez of Vegas or Brett Pesce of Carolina are much better.

@@davidarduini9818plus/minus is a useless stat. And points aren't the whole story, especially when the defense as a whole was struggling so much. Girard is absolutely elite at transitions and breakouts, is a fantastic skater, pretty great stickwork, and well above average on the PK and defending the rush. All of those are how he elevates himself above Martinez and Pesce, who are slower and more crushing shutdown type defenders compared to him. There are just different types, and Girard plays the CO 2nd pair defense type perfectly

@@ruskokollektiv5457 , these discussions are always fun for fans. I will acknowledge that Girard has been better since returning, and I’m proud of him for seeking the help he needed. I’m not trying to knock the guy. I’m just concerned about our defense past the Toews and Makar pairing. Sammy is an elite skater and a great puckmover. Besides Manson, the Avs don’t have much physicality on defense. The games get tougher down the stretch.

Byram is a left handed mobile puck moving defenseman. We have Power and Dahlin. Byram doesn’t fit all on the sabres. Not to mention Byram is one bad hit to the head from being retired.

Because the Avs were stubborn and held onto Girard, re-signed Big Val and Josh Manson. If Kadri would’ve taken maybe $6M, he probably would’ve stayed.

@@ruskokollektiv5457 , Avs were really cooked with the salary cap last years and injuries. I think the Val signing was good, Manson has been injury plagued the last couple of seasons. If he can stay healthy, he’s money in the bank. Not so sure about Girard though. Maybe would’ve been best to trade him after the Cup win for maximum value. He’s been better since returning. but the Avs have an abundance of smaller puckmovers in the system, ie Malinski, Behrens and Gylyayev.

Middlestad is a great player thats played great being forced to play with 3rd liners , he will put up 80 for Colorado next year and now we have 5 left handed defensmen, we named our worse player captain this year when he shouldnt of even of been on the team, sabres are the lauguing stock of the league and its time for granato and adams to leave
