This video is the complete guide to installing Hella auxilarly lights on your car. The guide is aimed at installing Hella 500, 500FF, 700, and 700FF lights, but the information is good for all sorts of lights, including other brands such as KC or even amazon / ebay specials. I show you everything from how to wire the lights, mount the lights, install the switch, and ensure everything works as expected.

The instructions that comes with these are the worst for wanting to wire without tapping into the factory headlights. Most of us just want to run directly from a power source and use the green switch to power them. It would be nice to have a tutorial that says what wire goes to what connection on the rely.

The only part the had me confused was what to do with blue wire that is attached to the light housing (ground). My hella 500ff kit didn't come with ring terminals which would've enabled me to ground them to the light mounts. No video on KZfaq really explains that, so I just figured it out in case any other aux light newbs like me run into the same problem.

3 years ago…. Is this still active? Thank you for this. However, I have a new question. I have 3 wires coming off the 3 pole switch and want to connect it to my s-pod. How do I hook up the third wire and where?

instead of messing with your fuse box and risk additional electrical issues - why not just put the green wire - which powers the switch - thru the firewall and right to the battery or even to the Solenoid? The green wire I was sent already has a fuse protector and at 4 feet long it can reach around the engine bay.

Because it's cleaner and doesn't look like a hack. A small amount of extra work for a nicer install.

Is this still active? I need help. Trying to wire up old set of these lights. I do not need these to work "with the other headlights". Can I just run the 2 wires from the back of the bulbs direct to an existing switch with power built in? ( my S-Pod). Can all the relay wires be eliminated.?

I just opened my box of hella 500’s , quick question tho , both light have blue ground wires, but no hardware to ground them out or did I miss somthing? Did you just get to the closest part of the frame bc I don’t feel they are very long. Can you explain alittle better the ground wire on the back of the lights themselves

Okay so the previous owner of the car mounted 2 sets of these lights on the front of my car. One died so I replaced 2 out of the set. Replaced everything as it was put in and now only 1/4 works. Can you help?

I don't fully understand what you did with the green wire on the fuse panel. Is it supposed to go into one of the slots? None of the connectors I put on fit in it. Do they make ones smaller specifically for it?

Were you using spade connectors? I did have to use one of the smallest sizes I had.

Hey can you DM me or let us know here how you made the push bar for the hella lights. I also have a mk5 and I'm interested in making one as well. Is there a push bar you bought from amazon to start with then welded on mounts/screws to the ends of it and to your car body (inside the fog light to the body) Can you tell us dimensions and what push bar you started with?

Does it have to be controlled by the 12v ignition source? I want to be able to just flip the switch whenever to run the lights.

It doesn't have to be ignition controlled, I did it this way so if they shut off when the key is out to prevent accidentally killing the battery. If you wire to a source that has constant power the key won't have to be in. Good luck!

It doesn't, I did some research and they sent out a bunch of switches that didn't illuminate. Some people said you could try contacting them but it didn't bother me enough

On my kit there is a fuse holder built into the wiring of the 12v (red wire) supply power.

Some hella light requires to be tap into high beams on your headlights to work or run a switch I wish hella had better instructions or a viedo to better explain I have a spod it won't work with out the relays they turn on the turn off I had hella for years but the instructions are so different from usa because they include many other languages with the instructions

Can you use Hella 500 with low beam lights ? Or are they gonna blind other drivers ?

It all depends on how they're set up. If they're mounted low and angled low it likely wouldn't be a problem. Personally I turn mine off whenever I see another driver just to be courteous.

You could just buy covers and mount em up, it'd be kinda silly in my opinion though. I'd just buy a kit and wire them up!

It was supposed to but mine didn’t.. reading into it Hella had a bad batch of switches that didn’t light properly, wasn’t enough of a problem for me to try and get it replaced
