Today I finished up my Speeduino ECU installation in 2Broke2Boosted, my 1993 Mazda Miata turbo project. Today included plugging in the ECU itself, hooking up my GM IAT sensor and BMW TPS sensor, calibrating them in tunerstudio, and starting the car for the first time. This specific ECU is a SpeedyEFI Mazda MX5 Miata 1.6L PNP (plug and play) kit, which was purchased from SpeedyEFI's website. I was amazed that the car started so quickly on the new ECU!

What I like about speeduino is that it makes the MAP a tuning aid like vacuum gauges back in the old days. And with a wideband o2, you can tweak the warmup cycle to get to closed loop sooner.

Miata tip.. you don’t need to remove the throttle body to replace the factory TPS. Remove the black back cover with its little clips on the TPS and it’s more than enough room to remove it. And replace the same way.. without the cover on initially. This works stock for stock. -local subaru guy

Tip for cruise-control equipped cars: there is an unused vacuum line connector on the very back of the intake manifold that can be used if you want to retain cruise control, while using the front vacuum output for your MAP (At least on my 92)

Great videos. I like how you show where all the cables go etc. Looking forward to learning more as I'm thinking about turboing my NA also. Any reason for choosing the Speedy ECU over a megasquirt or was it just budget driven. I heard they are basically the same thing and run the same software? Thanks
@CashedOutCars
@CashedOutCars 4 жыл бұрын
I’m glad you’re enjoying them, once all the videos are up it’ll be one of the most complete and easy to follow guides on KZfaq! The SpeedyEFI certainly was a budget driven choice. Megasquirt has been around longer and has more support, but I feel Speeduino based ECUs are the next big thing, and there’s already lots of support for them too. They both use tunerstudio so actual usage is quite similar between them. A Speeduino based ECU gets you most of the features of the MS3 at less than 1/3 of the cost and for most builds it’ll do plenty! More to come on it as I learn and tune my car, but for now I hope this helps!

Man, sweet couple of videos, ECU part if the one I stress the most about. Nice to see the kit used, been looking at it. Great for the MK1, MK2 I couldn't find any Speeduino based kit like that unfortunately. Would you say it runs as good with the base speeduino map than it did with the stock ECU?
@CashedOutCars
@CashedOutCars 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah SpeedyEFI doesn’t support the MK2 yet, but it’s worth messaging them and asking if they plan on it in the future. Yes it ran well enough on the base map, noticeable power increases and it ran better than stock in terms of smoothness. I still modified it a bit to learn the software and I stated modifying the car shortly after. Good luck!

Helpful video! I'm considering the SpeedyEFI for my 2ZR-swapped T28 turbo Yaris RS hatch. I wish there was a PnP option for my car. I'll have to do all the wiring myself. I'm running the AEM F/IC now and haven't been successful getting the fueling I want, in closed loop. Also, not sure what I'll do about a basemap. You're lucky that you have PnP and a Miata basemap.

@@CashedOutCars How are you finding the SpeedyEFI? I had been looking at full standalone ECUs, specifically the ECUMaster Black. I was quite surprised when I discovered that I could use a standalone ECU in a piggyback configuration and take full control of fueling. I've been gathering info from the helpful guys at SpeedyEFI. With the FishDog and Tuner Studio, I might find the solution to a better tune. Thanks for the link! Here's my little buggy. I built a single stage W/M injection system, installed HSD coilovers and TRD rear sway bar. In the spring, I'll be installing my new 205/50R16 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s. Put in a DIY thermostatically controlled transmission fan and dedicated cooler. It's a fun little car and handles incredibly well. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nKymqtGeyJadgZc.html

@@CashedOutCars Thanks! It's really fun on our twisty, hilly coastal roads. If I can get the SpeedyEFI to do what I want, I would probably ditch my W/M system. This unit is appealing as it seems fairly simple to wire up. I'm not that experienced with tuning, so that's the one thing that I would find mildly intimidating. My turbo kit came with a basemap, tuned specifically to my engine, so it fired right up and required little tuning. Are you running in batch fire mode or sequential? Thanks again!
