The Casio tv-21 was my most precious possession as a kid. We had no TV and my aunt gave me this device. Watching knight rider on it was amazing. I destroyed it when I disassembled it trying to convert it into a beamer...

My friends and i had one of these we used to share during highschool study halls so we could watch NCAA games during the early 90s...we had to hide it under the desk but it worked pretty well actually.

That TV--21 was a godsend in Germany when my unit was on field exercises. Me and 3 other guys crammed into a hole with that thing inside a helmet, and 3 sets of headphones jury rigged together. We couldn't find anything on but static.... then BLAM there was The Simpsons. It was in German but that was absolutely fine with us :) God that was cool....

This channel is what I've been searching for years now. I wasn't born in the 80s but a lot of their tech bled over to the 90s and this is like a blast from the past. I love every minute of it.

Do you know Jesus Christ can set you free from sins and save you from hell today Jesus Christ is the only hope in this world no other gods will lead you to heaven There is no security or hope with out Jesus Christ in this world come and repent of all sins today Today is the day of salvation come to the loving savior Today repent and do not go to hell Come to Jesus Christ today Jesus Christ is only way to heaven Repent and follow him today seek his heart Jesus Christ can fill the emptiness he can fill the void Heaven and hell is real cone to the loving savior today Today is the day of salvation tomorrow might be to late come to the loving savior today Romans 6.23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus

For some reason this reminds me of those iPhone clones that were floating around in 2008~2011 and had a built-in analog tuner, an external antenna and a TV app.

Oh man, I would have so loved one of these back in the day! It's a shame digital ones aren't very common.

But with Smartphones and Iphones around they're not really needed anymore. That said they look great, I would have loved one too.

Beautiful. I got one of those many years ago. Unfortunately I never got to see anything because that garbage is only NTSC. Does not work with PAL systems.

With that TV-880, the actual resolution of the display isn't higher than previous 2" display models, but what they did was arrange the dots in a delta configuration instead of as rectangular pixels, which allows better rendering of fine details and a higher effective resolution. Just like early OLED smartphones that had a Pentile display, which had for example a 1280x720 resolution even though there were less than 921,600 dots. Yeah, that was me. Lots of (all?) Casio TVs expect a lower-than-line-level video signal for some reason. Like you, I built a cable with a resistor in-line, but it's not perfect - I find an RF signal to be better quality still. Perhaps the actual Casio cable has a more complex network to do the conversion. It's the dumbest thing. Great video!! I need to make videos of my Casios eventually.

Neat... kinda like how in the larger CRT realm delta configuration is used for higher res stuff like computer monitors vs inline with televisions. And yes I'd love to see a video of your Casio collection.

So is anyone still broadcasting in analog these days? How did you pick up over the air signals for the old early pocket tvs?

Unfortunately, no. I was testing this by using an agile modulator with some rabbit ear antennas connected. It works well as a short range transmitter (though I'm not sure if the power is low enough to be compliant with FCC regulations). Here's the agile modulator: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNGZocWrvbXckoE.html

9:54 does anybody know where I can find that same battery holder? I bought a Sony FD-30A Watchman for parts on eBay a couple years ago and just finally ordered the power cord to it since I didn't have the correct one, and it works like a charm! Only catch - the Watchman didn't come with the battery holder, so at the moment I'm stuck using the power cord. Would like to power this up with batteries too!😁👌

I'm pretty sure the same battery holder was used on some other Sony products, like their professional walkmans. There's a few on ebay, but the prices are terrifying.

@@probnotstech I know, I checked on eBay for one of them battery holders, and one sold for about $75 and some for $40 or $30. Definitely scary prices if you ask me! If nothing else, I could resort to a parts Watchman that has one. Might consider that soon.

Even if the idea of a pocket TV was nothing short of amazingly fantastic and magical back in the 80s, it seems to me only Sony made a real attempt at making such a product properly and the other smaller tagged along half-heartedly, probably only because Sony was doing it. The Casio attempts seem particularly half-hearted, look more like engineering homework than a product with a vision behind it.

I agree about the Casio being more of an engineering concept - the first handheld LCD TV. It was also the smallest of the bunch, truly pocket sized. But for real world use? Sony nailed it, even if it was out of most peoples' price range (myself included).
