Neat video I really enjoyed that. I've shot cast pistol bullets but not rifle bullets yet so glad you shared this.

Unique ,Red Dot and Green Dot works well also for cast rifle loads . I use these in my 7.62 x 54r with a 155 gr. cast PC bullet at around 1600 fps with good accuracy . Good stuff

James Pollard, Right On! We'll see if we can push it up to 2400+ fps. Thanks for watching!

Good luck . I hope you can but every time I get around 2,000 or more I need a gas check . Hope you have better luck .

How many grains are you using in your 7.62x54r loads?

Be safe at public shooting places people are dumb and scary. In North Carolina at a public range we had some hillbillies swinging their loaded guns at all the other people and both shooting and going down range while others were still shooting. We packed up immediately and left it was terrifying. Be safe and I'll be looking forward to more of your videos.

Always remember as far as speed goes. If you want to shoot slower, use a faster burning powder (HP-38) If you want to shoot cast bullets faster, use a slower powder. 4895, 4064, Varget

Hey, I have that exact rest; Caldwell Lead Sled Solo. Friendly advice- don’t strap your rifle to it with it weighted down. You will ruin your scope. I use it, I don’t strap the rifle or add any weights. I also have a Ruger M77 in 30.06. I can follow along with you in this one.

JH 586SW, great tip on the sled thank you for that. Ya this rifle kicks good with these Varget loads. Part 3 should be up this weekend.

, you should try unique or 2400 thank you might it a little bit more of the Lost e and that are groups

Man i've been on the hunt at my local shops for unique for awhile.. and have yet to come across 2400. Unique may do a lot better for these cast rounds. I didn't catch your last part of your message?
@pcbulletempire98726 жыл бұрын
Eagle Eye Shooting it was supposed to say you would get more velocity and probably better groups
@EagleEyeShooting6 жыл бұрын
Ah ya. That would be nice. So far 11gr is giving poor obturation with HP38. Ill have to just suck it up and pay a hazmatt fee for powder. Any good suggestions where to purchase? I havn't bought any powder online "yet"

Unique is fabulous for reduced loads in .30 caliber rifles. Love it.

Hi did you ever find a good load for the HP-38? I am thinking of using the same powder since I have it for cast bullets in 30-06, sized down to .309 and powder coated.

Did you ever add the link to the pistol powder load information?
@5shotgroup4516 жыл бұрын
Why the pistol powder? Are you looking for subsonic loads or is rifle powder hard to find? Also, I saw a few videos of people using 22lr brass and swaging them to be used as jackets for cast 223 bullets. Have you looked into that?

Whats up Matt Woolsey! Im using pistol powder because Cast Lead bullets act different to pressures compared to FMJ. Ill need to stay around 30k PSI as that is my tensile strength of my lead alloy any higher and it will start gas cutting thus causing leading in my barrel. Gas checks will also help mitigate this but I dont use them. Most pistol powders burn fast so itll burn efficiently at lower pressures yet yield the velocities im looking for, as you saw with low SD numbers from my chrono results. I can get the same velocities as rifle powder but with a lot less which is what I'll hope to achieve. They're some rifle powders such as H4895 which you can reduce load using Hodgon's 60% under max rule. Cast Lead rounds are a whole different animal but in ballistics gel they do some really cool results compared to any FMJ and even old school Paper Patcher's can contest that lead bullets can be more accurate than FMJ rounds. They engage the rifling a lot better and can take down large game. Check out the article from Ed Harris thats in the description. About half way he talks about using pistol powders like Red Dot, W231 for this round. This cast load cost a total of 9 cents a round which is less than half what 1 FMJ bullet cost. It gets me practice behind this rifle without breaking the bank also. I've looked into swagging but the cost of dies and setup deters me from getting into it. If you want I can send some bullets for you to reload and try bud? lmk

What is the armor piercing M1 Garand ammo doing there?
