RE The charcoal dust - she says throw it away, but you might want to save it in a small jar if you go through lots of charcoal sticks. You can do washes with powdered charcoal and water and some art stores sell jars of it.

Mandy, First where have you been. Second I am so glad you are back. So I watched all the Bargue drawing classes and even took a Bargue drawing class with someone who you went to Atelier with. I was like Mandy thinks this and she was like well Mandy was always like that. And I was like yeah, and I like what Mandy came up with. And nobody came to the last claas except me. So how can I be like Mandy. I really want to be able to copy the bargue drawing and now (thank God) we are moving on to casts. But how can I really be ready like take a class from you even though I am not a teacher.

Lol, thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad you found the Bargue Plate class useful! I am excited to be launching the cast drawing class! Stay tuned for learning opportunities with Mandy... I will be launching a weekly class soon on Patreon where I personally critique submitted work and it will be open to everyone, not just teachers :)

You have a gift for getting the "point" across efficiently. Do you ever use the excess charcoal from sharpening in your work?
@schoolofatelierarts

I see what you did there... :) I sometimes use the excess charcoal from sharpening - I used to save it but then I simply had much more than I would ever use and so I stopped collecting it.

thank you for your generous knowledge! I was wondering if you had any advice on how to set up the best possible ambient light positioning for your paper/easel to get an evenly lit working surface
@schoolofatelierarts
@schoolofatelierarts 4 жыл бұрын
It completely depends on your space. If you have a shadow box around your subject, most light sources such as overhead or windows are find for ambient light as long as they are not too close to your setup. If using a lamplight on your easel, it is important not to "spot" the light, you want the light to be spread as evenly as possible. This often means keeping the light bulb as far away from the paper and slaking the light across the paper at a slight diagonal.

You can never do too many Bargue Plates! Each one is a unique challenge and will teach you different skills. I recommend finding one that you like and tackling it next :)

The videos on the Bargue plate have been incredibly informative and I'm really looking forward to the future cast videos, that is if you are making more to coincide with the Bargue videos. I just want to thank you for making these invaluable videos available for people who may not have been exposed to them other wise. Thank you Da Vinci initiative.

I'm not sure what you mean, but any light source that doesn't move will do the trick.

@@schoolofatelierarts just wondering if it needed a certain bulb 5000 Kelvin, white, warm, etc. Like in a still life set up.

I tend not to worry about that when I am drawing, those choices affect color more than the values of light and dark on the subject. What is important is that you have clean shadow shapes that are easily identifiable.
