When they snap I use a 3/4 drill bit and drill out the brass. Then re tap threads.

Would heating the fitting with a torch beforehand help to loosen everything? BTW, this is great content! Thank you!

Thanks Bruce! Heating may help, too depending on how old and rusty/corroded it is. 👍

Oh ya, you'll need a long pipe to put on wrench.

I am curious, how much did it cost to have them blasted and did you choose to paint of powder coast and what was that cost?

Hi Tobias, For a medium sized radiator this size or a little larger I paid $200 for sandblasting and paint.

How many times did you say “ don’t cut the threads”and then you went and cut the threads. Lol
@myoldhousefix
@myoldhousefix 5 ай бұрын
incorrect. The threads incurred zero damage. What you are seeing is the remains of the residual fitting material down in the radiator threads.

Just remove reducing bushing.

Threads look damaged, to be honest. Another method is to use Visegrips, grab hold of an eighth of an inch or whatever you can get, and turn it out.

Yeah, totally cut a notch in the threads with the hacksaw. You can see it at the end of the video. Dude, just pop out the reducer and hit it with a torch, tap it out with the chisel or an old flat head. Or just buy a reducing elbow to make it prettier.
