Thank you for the question, Nancy. The steps are the same regardless of the knitting style. You simply make a reverse yarn over, then knit the stitches of the braid, and finally slip those two stitches back to the left needle. I'll do my best to show each method in both English and Continental styles from now on. Happy knitting!

Will this prevent the work from rolling up?

Somewhat. It will keep an edge of a small project (like a hat, for example) from curling up, but it won't be enough to tame edges of a bigger project, like a blanket or a cardigan.

Of course! Use the steps described in this video, but leave a longer tail before you cast on stitches of the braid. When the cast on is finished, use that tail to graft the ends of the braid to make a circle. This method is explained in step-by-step photos in the first part of the book about matching cast ons and bind offs.
