An old lady once teached me this pattern. She passed away long time ago, but I sometimes take the stitch for shawls or hats. And then my thoughts go out to this lady. She could never remember the name for it-she had dementia and I was her caregiver. Now I know.. thanks to you.

I love using this stitch for scarfs. I learned how to do this stich just over 50 years ago, I was taught to cast on an odd number of stitches, I like your way better, with an even number cast on, that way sll the rows start with a knit stich. I find the hardest thing about this stitch is, to remember to not actually purl the stitch. I have always used this stitch for scarfs, but now, for the first time, I am using this stitch for making a potholder, I'm using size 8 needles to make it.

Several months ago someone asked me to knit a cowl with a certain stitch, but the sample cowl was store bought and machine knitted. I hand crochet and knit. Anyway, the closest stitch I could find for the project was double stockinette stitch. I fell in love with this stitch...I love the squishy-ness makes a super nice fabric... Using it, my project turned out great!!!! And got a bunch more orders as well!!!

Knitting on circular needles always feels awkward to me until I have enough fabric to weigh down the plastic cord. I am going to try this but on regular needles. It looks like a simple pattern that has great results, thank you. Oh and I love how calm you are and how slowly you do this so we can really see what you're doing.

I love this stitch. It's great for scarves. I've also made pillows with it. Separate the stitches so they're all on one needle (circular if you've got a lot of them), bind off, insert pillow form, seam opening (best to use kitchener or mattress)

Stumbled upon this video and was curious about this stitch. Was so enamored by it, grabbed a set of needles and did a small swatch to try it out. Started and stopped this video as I knitted along (you have a very soothing voice) and fell in love with this stitch. What amazed me was how cathartic this stitch is. Have anxiety issues and when I start to get that feeling coming on, grab my goto bag to help me settle down and "chillax" with this. Or if while working on my current project need a break. On a side note: completely frogged a scarf that was not done but quite far along, but was unhappy with it curling in to start over with this stitch. So glad "found" you! Thank you 💞🥰💞

Ah, I CAN slip that last stitch.. I didn't know the name of this but over the space of about half an hour the other night I came up with it ... after I'd done a few inches it struck me this was how Mum made my brother's football scarves when I was a kid. A bit young to have been knitting or crocheting... as I was playing with the yarn, knowing I wanted to make a not ribbed scarf because there were colour changes... I had pop up in my head...knit 1, slip 1 purlwise... which of course gave me a Moss stitch look.... hmmm 🤔🤔 but then I thought maybe if I'm slipping purlwise the yarn should be in purlwise orientation... so that worked.... and my colour change worked fine too. I remembered Mums didn't have the defined sides like I have with knitting last 2... I'll continue as I am, it IS neat.. I'm wondering if a hat is possible now 🤔🤔

This is a wonderful simple stitch that makes a beautiful double right side fabric. Definitely going to use it in the future. Starting right now with a scarf for my son. It's an easy practical project that will also give me plenty of practice on this special stitch. Thank you very much for the thorough lesson. btw, since I'm knitting continental, I only need one movement to do the "yarn to the front ... yarn to the back" + the slpw. Easy peasy. I'd be happy to send you a picture of the scarf once I'm done if you only let me know how I can do that. 🙋🏻‍♀️🇮🇱

Hey there Fiber Spider ✌🏻 thank you for that wonderfully easy tutorial! Although, it always boggles my mind to see others knit so complicatedly. Forgive me, it wasn't meant as veiled criticism, rather than, there's a much easier way!! 🤩 I will try to make a video 😉 Please let me emphasise again, how happy I am to have found this tutorial of yours, so now I can finally knit those Howard's House scarves like a pro 😎 I had always looked up doubleface tutorials, but as I'm working with one colour only... 😬 Well. Thanks again 🙏🏻 warmest greeting from across the world (Germany) 💕

Thank you for this! Been taking a much needed break from crocheting,and my daughter just had brain surgery a couple days ago and is going to be going through a tough recovery and off work for 4-6 months,and has a 4 yr old son to support as well. I am disabled, so not much help. I started a fundraiser for her by making quick projects and this is perfect! Thank you again! Also, not sure if you have ever tried the Fisherman's Rib KNit Scarf Pattern for Beginners by Hooked for Life with Mary Beth Temple. It's a fun stitch as well and is identical on both sides. Thanks again and God bless!

This stitch does not have a lot of stretch. Itbis a singl color "doubke knit". It is not a substitute for 1x1 ribbing. It is for less bulk "layering", perfect for tea cozy, hot water bottle cover, blanket etc.

The difference is that only the knit stitches show on each side. Another difference is that you can pull the front and back apart(it's a double layer) in fact this stitch, which I learned from Carol Duval in the 70's was referred to as the tube stitch. I made a small lap blanket with a 5 row 5 stitch garter stitch border all around (garter stitch is knit only) Hope this is clear.Thanks to Fiber Spider for this great stitch tutorial.
@dawngriswold457
@dawngriswold457 2 жыл бұрын
This stitch a a single color "double knit". It is less stretchy than a 1x1 rib. It is great for items you want to keep warmth via "layering" without bulk or stretch (tea cozy, hot water bottle cover, blanket etc).

Casting on over two needles isn't a great idea. That elongates the loops and looks messy. Better to space out your cast on stitches so there is elasticity. Yours are touching each other.

Does anybody know a good source for stitch instructions where I don't have to listen to fifteen minutes of just talking before they just show the dang stitch? When I need to see how a stitch is done I don't need the demonstrators history or any other drawn out senseless blather, just the stitch. This is the stitch, this is how it's done, let me show you again, boom. Over.
