If you are a fan of muddy walks around misty fields in the rain then I have the video for you. Just after storm Ciaran I took a walk up to Castle Ring in Cannock Chase. Armed with a new waterproof jacket I thought a nice Autumn walk was on the books. Sadly it was just too muddy / slippy and wet for a good afternoon. So after 13 minutes I decided it was time to find a brew somewhere a bit warmer.
Castle Ring is a site on Cannock Chase just outside of the village of Cannock Wood in Staffordshire. It's the site of a ancient Iron Age hill fort dating back about 2000 years to 50AD. It was occupied by the Cornovii and Celtic British Tribe. There isn't much of it left but you can still make out the great earth works that made up the border of the settlement.
It's situated at the highest point of the Chase and usually has some great views over the woods and countrysides of the area. However today it's just mist and rain. In better weather you can have a good walk around the ring and then down into the nearby woods.
I apologise for the sound quality and general shortness of this video. I'll pop back one day when the weather is a little better.
