It's an underrated moment, but I loved how when Thanos saw his army fading away, and he realized that he had lost, he didn't do some big final villain thing, or make a grand speech about how the universe is doomed without him. He just quietly accepted his fate, sat down, and peacefully waited for the end to come for him.

His death was a mirror of the ending of Infinity War, as he sat down on his porch after his work his done. In Endgame he sits down the same way, the camera pans the same way, but only this time, he has a sad and dissappointed look instead of a content one he had in Infinity War.

The Russos clarified, Woolie's initial reading of the Old Cap scene is 100% correct. When Old Cap shows up, he appears from his alternate universe, back to his point of oring in the main universe we've been following all this time. He just delayed the fuck out of his return point so that he could enjoy a lifetime with Alt!Peggy. I'm so sorry that Pat's bullshit got to you, Woolz. That doesn't make any sense and Pat SHOULD be correct on this, as delaying his return point would literally do nothing as he would still return to that original platform he was standing on 5 seconds later, or did Russos forget Hulk saying "He can take as much time as he needs, to us it will only be five seconds." Also why would he return to that exact moment with out the suit OR THE DEVICE THAT LETS HIM TIME TRAVEL only to go sit on a bench like he was just waiting there with his shield in a sack! The movie clearly set it up to be him living out his life in the main time line and nothing else contradicts that at all, if anything it would be dumb if he some how came back using another time machine that no one was using and his suit wasn't connected to.

@@rikowolfin4984 Actually you could argue the timeline Steve goes to is a completely different and in this revised timeline technology may be years more advanced since Howard Stark may have still been alive (Backed up by the fact he hands Sam a brand new Shield) and the original tech Steve used to time travel may not be usable after 60 years and he uses the tech from that timeline to return to the moment he left but since its different tech he doesnt return to the exact moment.
@rikowolfin4984
@rikowolfin4984 5 жыл бұрын
@@mrbonesaw90 He could easily get a new shield from Wakanda or have his original shield repaired. But all of this is assumptions that has nothing backing it up in the actual film, Steve Roggers has no idea how technology that advanced works and to avoid fucking up the time line, which was the whole point of returning the stones, Steve would have to avoid messing with anything up until that moment he left. Even still lets just say he did all of that and the time line he comes from is one so advanced that he doesn't need a suit or the Pym Tech to use time travel, why the fuck did he decide to just sort of sit on a fucking bench at the Funeral in normal clothes with a shield shaped bag next to him and no one noticed he was there until AFTER Steve left to go back in time? All of this makes zero sense in the film itself other than to try and repair how things work for time travel, which is dumb because it still works perfectly fine when the whole point was to keep it all ONE time line which it still is and Steve Rogers just didn't change anything major about it to split it into a different one like removing a Infinity Stone would have.

In today's episode, MODOK refuses to listen to the movie and then calls the result bad writing. Pat, it's alternate timelines. Hulk tells you, very clearly, that you can't change your own past. It's impossible, at least with the method they were using. There's no going back in time and then waiting things out on the scenic route. Cap went back into the alternate timelines, some of which were drastically altered by their actions, and gave back the various macguffins, then used his time-GPS to go to the 40s or 50s or whatever to dance with Peggy and marry her. The reason they had to put the stones back was that the stones themselves are important to the fabric of reality, and if they don't return them more or less as soon as possible, then that alternate timeline is screwed. The Russos have confirmed this. If you want to read the quotes, you can google Russo Bros Q&A. The stones being "gone" is probably going to be a plot point for future Dr. Strange and Guardians movies. They can slip Shuma Gorath, Cytorrak, Annihilus and all sorts of weird extra dimensional alien goobers into the setting and be all, "Well, they were afraid of the stones before this."

Also to clear up the question of how he's on the bench instead of coming through the portal. The movie sets up earlier that the portal platform isn't entirely necessary. It's just a nice checkpoint, especially for a whole team. In 2012 New York, Tony and Steve initiate a jump to a different time and place independently of the platform. They only need their space/time GPS hand devices and Pym Particles to make a jump. So it's entirely feasible that Steve jumps to the bench of his original timeline (or somewhere nearby then walks to the bench while the others are watching the platform) to be the dramatic bitch he is.

About the timeline bullshit from what I understand the only way to create a branch is to fiddle with the Infinity Stones. So what we got was branch Thanos, Nebula, and Gamora. Then once the stones were returned that branch was effectively erased. That is why when Cap went back he could just continue down the timeline normally. Cap living in the past and Loki escaping could feasibly fit in the normal timeline. Loki because if I recall correctly it is just kinda assumed he never escaped in the Avengers but after the pose there is the cut to Thor taking Loki back to Asgard. So it is entirely possible Loki had his shenanigans offscreen in between those moments.

I thought that it was assumed that the timelines split (with Future Trunks rules), they just didn't want to create a *doomed timeline with no infinity stones.* So the universes still split because teleporting Loki, and Thanos' whole army disappearing, but they had to bring the stones back so terrible void beasts wouldn't rip apart reality.

@@rikowolfin4984 Going back and making different events happen no matter how small instantly makes a brand new reality. The important thing here is scale. Lets say the hulk went back and accidentally broke a potted plant. That would have created a brand new reality instantly however the ramifications of that wouldn't be anywhere near as to the complete removal of the time stone from that reality without it being returned. The major new realities created after endgame are a reality where Loki is still alive (cue TV series), a reality where Thanos and his army just diapered and never returned and a reality with two Captain Americas in it, one frozen and one with Peggy Carter. @@calumbrown336 The problem with that is that all of these changes they made in the movie still would lead into a completely, and potentially dangerous, time line that she did not see. The whole point of Hulk taking the infinity stone and promising to bring it back was so that her time line would be the exact same she saw with Dr. Strange, other wise Hulk being there at all was a danger to their whole reality itself. Break a potted plant is fine, it does nothing to affect the time line, but you have Captain America fight himself while Loki is captive that is going to send some major red flags. Suddenly Hydra thinks Captain America ether is in on their plot and informs him ahead of time by accident and everything is wrapped up sooner, or Hydra figures out Captain America was lying to them and decide to kill him first and removing the threat completely while he is still unaware. Then there is Loki taking the infinity stone that they have to do who knows what, meaning Dark World doesn't happen and Loki doesn't 'die' for Thor nor does Loki return to Asguard in Thor 3 and help save Thor from his sistor/Thanos meaning Thor is dead three times over now and everything is fucked because this is a split time line that still has Thanos. It also still doesn't explain HOW CAPTAIN AMERICA GOT BACK TO THE 'ORIGINAL TIMELINE' when he wasn't wearing the suit or have the button on him! It's not like he knew how the hell time travel worked so he reprogrammed the device to take him back with out the platform, and if he did even use the device he would have STILL ended up back on the platform itself right in front of everyone and not on that fucking bench like he was waiting for them to notice him!

Wanda, Scarlet Witch, was infused with the powers of the reality Stone. As for the time travel thing, so long as they return everything to the point in time where it was taken from the branches would be snipped. That means returning the time Stone to the Ancient One the Tesseract or the space Stone to the shield bunker excetera excetera. And yes Loki being free with the space Stone changes that timeline. But like Professor Hulk explained you can't change the past. I'd wager that the Disney Plus show will cover 2012 to 2018. Thanos did say he was an inevitability. So all the stones would eventually make it back to him anyways.

Idt people liked the Scarlet Witch vs Thanos moment because they loved her character, as much as the revenge moment was VERY earned considering what Thanos means to her; not only did he kill her husband, he fucking watched mockingly as _she was killing her own husband_ to save the universe, something she knew she might have to do but obviously was devastating. And then Thanos basically laughed at her, said "nice try but I'm going to render everything you did as completely pointless", then proceeded to win. So Scarlet Witch got her moment to try to dish out revenge, but even so that's a debt that can never be repaid in full.

My mind is in a punchup over "but how does it work" and "shut up it's comic book time travel". I think that is the only state that the movie can exist in.

CAPESHIT LYFE EDIT: If Caps last stop is 1945 it was probably where he left the space stone/Tessaract because that's where he and Tony pick it up from after Loki bails. So cap leaves it and himself in 1945(ish) and that's his endpoint with Peggy and the stone is there for Endgame Cap and Tony to take. We just never knew up to this point that Loki also takes the Space stone because remember he HAS THE TESSARACT in the beggining of Infinity War.

Pat's hand wavy interpretation of multiple timelines is both hilarious and infuriating.

I admit the timeline/multiverse thing is super confusing but Pat's crazy talk is through the roof for that section

He just scraped up the stones with his cool nanotech arms. He can make stuff appear out of his back on the fly so it's not too much of a leap to assume he can make it grab the stones.

Red Skull became the guide to the Soul Stone after he got teleported there by the Tesseract (Space Stone) at the end of the first Captain America movie.

I do agree with Pat with Pym, having the ability of going back in time is beyond broken and he is totally getting kill soon enough, but that would have to redo the plot of "we only have x time travels to use" and it would feel kinda cheap since Endgame did it pretty nicely

Don’t forget there is a Guardians of the Galaxy timeline with no Gamora or Thanos... think about that.

It annoys me that the part where Thor kills Thanos is supposed to be treated as this heartbreaking "we officially failed" moment but everyone laughed like it was a joke.

Pat completely didn't get how time travel works in this movie. Past cannot be altered because traveling to the past is still your future. So there aren't two Caps in the endgame timeline. He lived out his life in another timeline and then used his time bracelet thing to return to the endgame timeline just after he left. No altering the past. Past is set in stone.

@@zeterzero4356 He probably used the device earlier when they were not there to see him coming back. Regardless, doesn't matter how he came back, only that he did.

That kid at the funeral had me so confused. I pride myself on my bullshit knowledge of these movies, and I was audibly baffled when this random dude gets a shout-out at Iron Man’s funeral.

Japan is a solid bathroom break point. You can understand that Hawkeye went edgy after losing his FAMILY, Family, family. No need to watch him swordfighting Yakuzis before joining up with the team again.
