Ticks are attracted to light colors. My grandma would drag a white sheet through the yard to gather ticks before a family gathering and then we would burn the sheet to get rid of them. It was astounding how many we would get.

Don't leave the light on and put used shavings on the bottom of the trap so it smells the same as the floor of the chicken house.

We caught our coyotes by putting a remote predator caller under the back of the trap. Had the injured rabbit sound and caught the first one on half hour

Jeremy & George- We put liquid cooking oil on our bird feeder poles. Not squirrel, nor chipmunk could climb it. It was actually kind of funny watching them try.

Opposums eat tons of ticks! You should get some free range guineas. They eat ticks and are awesome predator alarms!

Cool plan… I wired in a false back, made a small section in the very back of the trap and put a live rooster in the the safe zone.. caught the bobcat that was getting my chickens, good luck…

Coyotes are Wiley! On the farm we could hear them howling behind the crib or by the creek. Always more than one.

Hummingbirds also need insect protein so if you stick a little piece of Soft fruit somewhere on the feeder to attract flies. when I lived on the ranch I had At least 30 hummingbirds and was a slave to them. House is three stories and those little buggers would come look in every single window on all the floors to find me and fuss at me when they were out of nectar. They can really scold. Toward the end of the season I would put a little more sugar they help them keep up their energy.

Securing the cage to the building /door will cause you trouble if you do catch a varmint in the cage. Find another way to secure it that will allow you to move the cage without putting your hands near the animal.

If you put a baby monitor in the coop, and the base of it in your office, you can hear when the chicks are scared, telling you something is not right, maybe the coyote is in the trap, or a snake in the coop.

The pea hens care OK but the peacocks are very vulnerable in the morning when there’s dew weighting down their tails.

My brother-in-law used to breed them for his own bird-feeders, and he would sell the excess. Undyed fishing maggots are good too. We're very nature-minded in my family.

That Willey Coyote has absolutely no fear. I think he's the true owner of the Hales Homestead. **The slinky trick will be interesting to know how it works out. My squirrels are out of control this summer.**

Okay first off, when you live in the country Off bug spray is the summer perfume or cologne; watching out for predators you travel locked and loaded; I'm an animal lover too but predators bring in disease possibly to your critters or death so.... Love the slinky idea! Jeremy is a real fix it man! Woohoo!!!🧡

Do you figure you have more than 1 coyote? Are you going to keep that trap there all the time? Make sure you keep that piece you removed so you can replace it when you are done with the trap.

Suggestion - make a hardware clothe screen insert for the top part of Fluffy Butts door. Fresh air & light still can get in but critters won’t get in. Peacocks - get your fencing enclosed in front of their opening soon. The coyotes were just checking out the security of the area. They are very smart. 😊

My darn squirrels figured out how to use the slinky as a ladder. I finally bought a squirrel 19 inch squirrel baffle from Amazon, to install under the bird feeders. The baffle works great. Good Luck!!

I'm in a suburb of Chicago. It's quite urban, not rural at all but we have coyotes. They are not uncommon here. Fox, skunk, possum, raccoon and others have been in my own back yard.

I had a stroke after I pulled 7 ticks off. We were cleaning up a lot and ticks were bad. It wasn't Limes disease, but it started with a (C). Check each other for ticks daily. A little prevention for the both of you , goes a long way.

Feed your chickens some of their own shells( chopped up )after you've used the eggs and it will make their egg shell stronger

I would put a piece of wood on the top of the trap so that the chicks cant sit on top of the trap just in case you do manage to trap the coyote the chicks dont get injuried if they jump on top of the trap just to prevent any coyote bites on their claws. Hope Georges appointment went ok at the drs and was that a hole in the door leading from the pew area into the living space?

Deer like hummingbird feeders and of course bears do too. I use to feed chipmunks peanuts, they got so use to me they would climb in my pocket to get them if I wasn't fast enough. I loved those little shits. :)

I like your idea 💡 for the slinkys on your bird feeders, that should discourage the chipmunks from the feeders and that’s a clever idea for catching the coyote, have a feeling it will work, and hopefully George’s dr appointment went well

Oh my goodness George, you’ve never seen a tick until now! I grew up in the country, but now live in Lexington, KY and I’ve seen them here in the city. If you catch an opossum just let it go. They eat tons of ticks and it is very rare for them to have rabies. A previous neighbor of mine used to feed the opossums from his garage. He said he had them as pets when growing up. That was a first for me! Jeremy, great idea on placement of the trap. I hope you catch the coyote. That chicken sitting on the edge of the half door is beautiful.

Opossum is a marsupial a rat is not, they are quite different. I'm pretty sure you know that but just in case this is your animal lesson for the day. BTW stink bait is for catching catfish not coyote.
