Missing ingredients are optional Pate paste n soy sauce. If you want just the French bread just say oh bon mee. Oh means a loft of bread. Try spring roll next. Secret ingredient is to get egg roll wrappers and slice them into chop stick sizes n oil fry it. Then add it into your spring roll. It will give your roll that crunch and some viet restaurant hole in the wall turned their business around with that one move. Amazing because the viet people can not figure out the secret ingredient that makes it crunchy like that plus authentic spring roll has no crunch to it. It catches on like wild fire from northern to southern Cali. Try it if you haven't

Yum, I'd never thought of adding eel to banh mi. If you want to up your banh mi game, the authentic versions also has a spread of liver pate. You can get them in a can from a Vietnamese or Asian market. BTW, "banh mi dac biet" will mean the works/special for the sandwich.

I introduced some of my ex-coworkers to banh mi sandwiches. They did not like it. lol Not the typical ham and turkey they're used to. Also, they don't like cilantro and said it taste like bleach. That was when I put a couple of stalks in my mouth. I love cilantro and put that in almost everything.

In Vietnam when you order the sandwich. Its called banh mi thit. Means meat sandwich. Otherwise its regard as just bread if you ask for banh mi. Banh mi is like say bread and then the next word is main item like meat, fish, meatballs, etc...
