In the books, Katniss is very honest with Gale and tells him she cannot choose between him and Peeta, she has no room for romantic love, the only emotion she feels 100% of the time is fear. It’s important to note that she kisses him when she thinks it’s what he wants from her or to comfort him. Also in the books, there are only two kisses that come from her feeling emotionally close to someone and actual physical desire. The first is in the first games in the cave after Peeta finally gets medicine & the infection he got from the sword wound is healing. The second is also Peeta on the beach after he basically tells her that it’s okay not to love him that way, as long as she is alive and happy. I’d have kissed him for that too lol.

I'm not sure if anyone answered this for you in the comments of your reaction to the first movie, but Haymitch has one of the saddest backstories, and I don't think I could ever forget it. He was the winner of the second quarter quell, so this movie/book takes place exactly 25 years from his victory game. The challenge for that game was that there would be four tributes from each district; which means that Haymitch was up against twice as many kids. He was only 16. At the start of his game, the tributes were amazed by the beautiful arena, and many were too stunned to get off their pedestals. Haymitch used this to his advantage and was able to easily get a knife and a backpack of choice from the Cornucopia. Eighteen kids ultimately fell during this opening act. At one point in the game, Haymitch made his way to the edge of the arena where he hoped he would find something useful. The edge unfortunately only had a cliff, but Haymitch decided to explore the edge of the cliff anyways. He ended up knocking a pebble off that unexpectedly bounced back while he rested. Curious, Haymitch picked up another rock and threw it off the cliff. The force field around the arena threw it back right into his hand, at which point he started laughing. Haymitch and one of District 1's female tributes were the final two. Despite her being larger and stronger as a Career, both sustained severe injuries during their fight. Haymitch, at one point, sliced her eye out, and he himself was hit in his abdomen by her axe. After being disarmed, a weakened Haymitch staggered through the forest while holding his intestines in, with the District 1 female in pursuit behind him. Haymitch eventually reached the cliff he found earlier just as the District 1 female tribute threw her axe, aiming for his head. Haymitch collapsed from his injuries before it reached him and it missed, flying over the cliff. With both tributes unarmed, the District 1 female tribute stood in front of Haymitch, thinking she could outlast him by staunching the flow of blood from her eye wound. To her utter surprise, the axe rebounded off the force field back into the arena, killing her when it buried itself into her head, leaving Haymitch the victor and District 12's latest in four decades. Two weeks after he was crowned victor of the Second Quarter Quell, Haymitch's mother, younger brother, and girlfriend were all killed by President Snow because of the stunt that he pulled with the axe and force field; which was perceived as an act of defiance that made the Capitol look foolish. As seen in the first movie/book, Haymitch becomes an alcoholic due to the horror of his game, his grief over his family's and girlfriend's deaths, and the overwhelming guilt he felt from being obligated to participate in the games he hated while each and every one of his mentored tributes died in them. Also, I would be in district 7 (lumber)! I'm from the pacific north west, so I wasn't too surprised to find that out lol

Just a clarification from your last reaction: the 3 finger salute is a district 12 symbol that they do at funerals. It means farewell/a gesture of respect - thats why its such a big deal when district 11 uses it in solidarity. Snow does not like the districts colluding at all and this gesture spreading is an indication that hes got a problem on the rise.

14:07 Katniss doesn't love Gale in a romantic way. This is made very clear in the books, although I understand if it's not very clear in the movies. Gale's her closest friend and the only person she really feels she can be herself around. At this point she is pretty sure she won't return from the games. She's already made a deal with Haymitch to keep Peeta alive, which means she will die. The kiss is her way of saying goodbye to her best friend.

This was one of the VERY few movies where I was blown away with how much it was like the book. I was so excited in the theatre.

Finnick and Mags are from a coastal fishing district. That's why you see Mags tying fishing lures, and Finnick's weapon of choice is a trident (3 tip spear). Their districts main accident is DROWNING. This is why Finnick knows and gives Peeta CPR. Katniss does not recognize this act. The main accidents in the Coal district are explosions and cave-ins. Burns and broken bones.

In the books, they go over the Quarter Quells in more detail. Each Quarter Quell is different, meaning that every 25 years there's a twist to how the tributes are picked. The 25th Hunger Games had the districts themselves elect who was going to be sent to the games. The 50th Games had double the amount of tributes, meaning that each district sent two male and two female tributes, making it 48 tributes in total. These were the games that Haymitch won. Another detail present in the books is that Katniss and Peeta watched tapes of each of the victors' games in order to better know their opponents. There is also an additional career district in the books, District 4. For what ever reason they made a normal district in the films.

The naked scene in the elevator is even funnier after Jena Malone told a story about it going to the wrong floor and a guest was there: "I finally got all of the timing bits down," Malone says. "And as I turned to go, the elevator doors opened. And there was a guy holding two cups of coffee from Starbucks trying to get onto the elevator. I just walked out. I was like, 'OK, keep going!' And he was totally unfazed. It's like me, naked in all of Joanna's glory, and then Woody Harrelson, Jen (Lawrence) and Josh (Hutcherson) and the camera operator behind me."

You have to remember that Katniss is 17 so she's emotional and is having a difficult time understanding her feelings.

District 13 hints were dropped earlier- easily missed when you are providing reactions and commentary. Re the end: Katniss figured out that Beaty was trying to short out the arena and finished the job getting zapped in the process which paralyzed her. These movies are some of the rare ones where I advise people to read the books before seeing the movie because the plot simplification can make it hard to follow. Keep’em coming!

One of my favorite images in the entire series is here, the painting that Peeta made of Rue for his assessment. I would have loved to find out if his and Katniss’s assessment tasks were the only “f-- you” ones done by the tributes.

The second one is even better than the first one because it’s more accurate to the book! (I think they got a different director for Catching Fire…) Also it has even better songs on the soundtrack than the first one! My favorite song on the soundtrack is Atlas by Coldplay, (it also has a really beautiful lyric video as well with stars and constellations!) my second favorite song is Who We Are by Imagine Dragons, and my third favorite song on the soundtrack is Everybody Wants To Rule The World (original song by Tears For Fears-covered by Lorde!)

Hello. I live in Austin Texas. I looked it up on a Hunger Games district map, and I'm underwater. 😁

The slip at the start makes no sense in the film for a very important reason. remember in the first film how Peta hurt his leg and Katniss got the cream thing to heal it? Well it wasn't a perfect healing but it was working. Then Cato at the end uses the machete to slice open Peta's leg - right on the part where it was healing and worse it was down to the bone this time. They had to amputate it because they couldn't fix it and it was already going gangrenous. So when he and Katnis meet at the start of the 2nd movie in front of the cameras, he's walking on a blade foot in the book and doesn't know yet how to navigate on ice (it's very hard to walk on ice at all with a prosthetic, trust me I know) and he steps on ice, slips, grabs Katnis and the both of them go down in a heap. I don't know why they cut that revelation out as it remains a big part of his character that he's injured and Katnis blames herself for his frailer body.

I don't know which district I would be in. Maybe others can help. I am in the Northern California. Also, what's interesting about Joanna is that in her games, during her training and evaluation, she underperformed on purpose so no one would think about her during the games but since she is a skilled axman she killed the last tribute and won. She was always outspoken and was warned about running her mouth, by Snow. He threatened to kill her whole family if she didn't stop. She didn't stop, and saw her entire family wiped out. She lived as a recluse until the 75th game. Like Katniss, she was the only surviving female and that's what we see in the movie.

You see Katniss throwing rocks into the forcefield while walking along the arena perimiter trail. In the book, they are a type of acorn she uses, and they get yummy roasted and Mags fills her cheeks like a chipmunk. 🐿

Based on the maps I've seen, I guess I would be in Dstrict 12 in Northern Virginia, but I never understood why the maps were so big. If everyone in each district is supposed to show up to the Reaping each year, there's no way people in poorer districts could travel from hundreds of miles away. I always imagined District 12 in the book as being somewhere in the Smokies and there just being a lot of distance between each of the districts.

I always felt the twist in this was amazing.

District 8 here (I think...depends on which map you find) (Nebraska) District 13 was supposed to have been destroyed (it was mentioned in the first movie) by the Capital during an rebellion that started the Hunger Games (75 years ago)

There are various maps (none in the books; they just give hints). The districts don't all join up, so there's a lot of unaccounted for land out there that just belongs to Panem, which is like the woods outside D12, where Gale and Katniss poach game.They don't just leave 12 and go to 11 in the train. The leave 12--cross the fenceline--in 12, then travel for quite a long ways before they get to the fence of 11; all of that is outside either district. I think I'm outside 2, probably to the south (I'm guessing d2 is in Colorado from various hints, and the Capitol almost has to be in Utah). D4 makes the most sense around the Gulf of Mexico, so I'm probably right between them. I grew up between 12 and 13. (I once did a whole essay on where the districts would have to be. Because I am that OCD about it. ;p)

You should definitely check out Captain Phillips. It's a movie about a cargo ship that Got Hijacked near the coast of Somalia it's a true story and Tom Hanks plays the captain you would really like it

I love these movies and books so much. It's been fun watching you react! But please - think about it this way...Katniss is 17, she has PTSD, she knows if she doesn't 'love' Peeta enough/correctly she, him, her whole family will die, Gale will die (since Snow knows about him) - maybe her whole district. She's in total fight-or-flight at all times, her emotions are all over the place. She can't 'make up her mind' - she doesn't CARE about having a romance or a relationship, she only cares about convincing Snow and saving her family. Plus - she doesn't owe either boy a 'relationship' or 'love' - that's a them problem.

I know you say you want katniss to make up her mind, but next time try looking at the differences in the way she kisses gale vs. Peeta. The way her intimacy is started with each is also an indication of where her head is at. Katniss is hard to read, but theres def clues.

Watch Divergent, Irreverent, Revenant. It's a series, they stopped doing it after the third one. The fourth was supposed to be the finale but they got bored with it.

The next few really are exciting with the revolution against the Capital. And yes, Cena is more than beat up :(
