I told you the story about catching 2 barra in a cast net. Not many people believe the story, but you have proof that it can be done. Awesome video Luke. Now you have to catch the barra on a line. You will have to learn how to patch a cast net. It saves heaps of money, and more importantly, no fish get away from the little holes. The garlic prawns looked delicious.

Hey mate Taylor's point I grew up fishing there if you go further out onto the sand you will get more prawns and also chuck a live prawn in amongst the oyster rocks just deep enough you can't see the bait 😉

Hi Luke you should try cast netting down in front of the esplanade on hospital side it’s a lot less dangerous then where you are, plus there are more prawns

Great effort Luke... When the prawns are running u should fill a 20ltr bucket in an hour... Fish the incoming but at the top of the tide bloke... goodluck

Great video that little flat fish was a flounder they start live as a normal fish and one of there eyes moves around so there body so the can lie flat, keep the sinkers thou

Those fish species are bony bream which was the silver one (great bait) and the flat one at the 20min mark was a flounder (great eating when bigger) I love cast net fishing too.. it's true bro, you'll never know what you'll catch.

Big Ups and Respect to your Cool adventures, please don't quote me, but many years ago an old fishermen once told me when fishing or using crab nets or fishing rods & any tackle, Not to touch your line or lures or bait if you have aftershave or aerogaurd or any sunscreen on your hands cause the fish can smell or taste it on your fishing tackle or whatever you touch & won't go anywhere near your hook or nets.. just a heads up incase that may be the issue of the dry spell.. I just got a pet baby barra and he loves the little prawns. i cant wait to watch him grow. also the semi circle flathead looking thing you caught is called a flounder. if you get the bigger ones that are one of the best tasting fish. i live in queensland sunshine coast and hear they have no size limit but im not sure about further up north. those prawns are also GREAT live bait for many different species so i encourage you to try using them.

Bit of avice for you. DO NOT wrap the line from the cast net around your wrist like you do. If you throw the net over a croc you''ll end up in the creek permanently. Especially in the vicinity of a trap. Go get some advice from local fishermen. I get a stubby cooler and cut 1'' wide rings. Fix the rope to the ring and then slip the ring over yr wrist. If you DO throw the net over something then the stubbie cooler ring will pull off your wrist. The Crocodile Dundee " THAT's a knife" that you have won't save you. The other thing to remember is that the night belongs to the crocodile. THAT'S why they have party trick eyes for low light conditions. I wouldn't go anywhere near that creek in low light light conditions esp at night. Enjoy the enthusiasm and different activities that you show.

From the look of that barra with its tail being half eaten. It’s also got a lot of marks around it’s head. So I would say maybe he’s been stuck in a pro fisherman’s net. Which is strange because small ones like that should be able to go through the nets mesh standard size for barra is 6 inch mesh. But if it’s a bait net it would get caught. A lot of the time what happens is when the fish are stuck in the nets. Bigger fish like sharks/ big cods an occasionally a croc will attack an eat them. An I’m guessing maybe that barra was stuck in a pro fisherman’s set bait net which is around 3 inch mesh size. An somethings had a go at his tail an he’s some how forced an kicked his way through out of the net.
