I grew up on the Gulf Coast. My favorite saying when we feast like this is " this stuff is so good. What do rich people eat? " It puts everyone else in the frame of mind to appreciate what we are eating and to give thanks for our blessing.

Bro!! I graduated high school in ‘97. Went to work at my first full time job in the carpet manufacturing industry in south Alabama. 26 years later I have reached the highest hourly paying job in the company. I hated my jobs through the years even though I kept climbing the company ladder. Until I literally fell into my current position because I stayed and built lasting personal relationships with people who matter. Ground up growth is so important because you build a solid foundation. Love your channel. Keep up the good work👍

I think it's weird that I grew up in Florida, and no one ever heard of Shrimp and Grits until about 15 or 20 years ago. I mean grits were a prevalent side dish. Fried Fish, Cheese Grits, and Coleslaw should be the official state dinner, but Shrimp and Grits they're new.

Gabe, love the videos, especially when you include the family! As for launching a boat, when younger, as a novice, I would turn around. As an adult, mirrors only. I even launched my friend's new 24' for him, since he had never backed up a trailer before. He tried for 10 minutes, then asked if I had ever done it. Two minutes later (had to get in driver's seat), boat was in the water. 🤣 Thank you, dad, for teaching me and trusting me!!!

You can go shrimping recreationally in different ways. We like to go at night & use dip nets off the bridges here on the Indian River & Banana River in Brevard county Florida. These 2 rivers fork together. Mather's Bridge used to be on fire years ago, for shrimping & catching trout off the bridge at night. Mather's Bridge is a tiny draw bridge in a peaceful, beautiful location. Some of the biggest shrimp you've ever seen.
@kurttrzeciak8326
@kurttrzeciak8326 Жыл бұрын
@@howabouthetruth2157 WOW! I had no idea you could catch them with dip nets too! I didn't know that shrimp swim up that high in the water column. I guess I just always figured that they hung out on or near the bottom. This is sincerely something I gotta try!
@howabouthetruth2157
@howabouthetruth2157 Жыл бұрын
@@kurttrzeciak8326 Oh yeah! It's been so long since I've done any night time shrimping, I can't recall now, but I think the moon phases at certain times of certain months, along with the tide, that causes the shrimp to get on the move, swimming with the tide/current. The locals will say "the shrimp run is on". During these times, the shrimp are indeed ( or at least many of them ) traveling in the upper water column. During then night, you lower a lantern (or 2 or 3 ) down, tie the lantern rope so the lantern is around 3 to 5 ft over the water, and you can literally see platoons of shrimp moving through, roughly 1 to 3 feet below the surface.........and dip em right up!!! In recent years, you can use a headlamp with a red beam that causes the shrimp's eyes to glow red like crazy in total darkness........and dip em up that way. I haven't tried the red light yet, but they say it works just as good as lanterns. Back in the '70's ( and earlier ), Mather's Bridge was perhaps the best place in central Florida's east coast for night time shrimping. As teenagers back then, we went nuts & had a blast doing it. The speckled trout fishing was phenomenal back then too, right at the same time the shrimp were running. Just off the perimeter of the circle of light in then water from the lantern, you would see continuous silver flashes in the dark water, right off the edge of the light. Those silver flashes in the darkness were trout picking off the shrimp!!! You could literally dip up a shrimp ( or 3 to 5 in a single dip ), put it on a hook, and lower it into the dark water, just outside the perimeter of the light, and catch trout 2 to 4 lbs in a split second, I kid you not. And on occasion, a big double digit gator trout would be caught. Those were the days! ( Or should I say "nights"......lol. ) Today, it is EXTREMELY rare to catch a speckled sea trout over 8 lbs. But back then, at least several times a year, someone would catch a gator trout weight 11 to 14 lbs........I've seen em. My biggest sea trout ever was 6 lbs. My brother-in-law caught a 10 lb'er. ( But I've got plenty of huge trophy largemouth bass.........so far, four 12 lb'ers alone. )

They sent me so much stuff to share. I gave away Everglades for a month. Love that company and their story. That ending of your video showing your fishing camp reminded me of my youth on Lake Weir in Ocklawaha, FL. My family had stayed in a small five-cabin "resort" that you walked down a sidewalk right to the lake. Full of bass, bluegills and catfish. My parents had an opportunity to buy out the five rentals and the owner's cabin but couldn't afford it at the time. Later in our lives, my dad purchased a few acres of orange groves on Little Lake Weir which paid for itself in leases to a local harvester. I am in my 70s now and still look back at those times as some of the best in my life. Now my quiet little town has million dollar homes all over the lake and it has lost it old Florida charm. Such a shame .....

I set up a light in my local harbor and there was a school of 12 cuddle fish staying up high by the surface. There was 10”-14” mullet coming up and trying to pick them off all night. It was a first to see for me and very cool. Those things are good bait and will bite the snot out of you! Awesome video as always Gabe!

Love shrimp and grits!! Im from Louisiana. Put some gouda cheese and add some bacon grease to them while cooking. Top it off with some diced well cooked thick cut bacon and green onions. Hmmmhmmmm so good. Usually pair it with some fresh fried fish and some green beans.

You should be paid by the state of Florida to encourage ppl moving there. You do a great job showing the natural beauty ppl are completely missing out on in the cities esp up north. Not to say there aren't gorgeous places up there, all of the world is gods country....but Florida....it is a gem.

Gabe, I like the video very much. I am located in Hinesville, about 25 miles from Jesup. I used to fish in that river all the time, hold your nose. We can smell the pulp plant, when the wind is blowing this way.
