Yes it can be configured to run on natural well gas or digester gas, however the fuel requirment and CFM required at maximum load will be more suited to natural gas.

We have (6) 3512's each rated at 1,200 KW...that's 1.2 megawatts each. This 20 cylinder monster dwarfs the 3512...so, why do you think Caterpillar would produce a presentation with number's that weren't real? Do you think engineer's are going to miss this?

They said 10,000 kw and yes this thing could easily produce 10 Mw.

More parts: (push rods which have a habit of bending at higher revs) cam is buried in the centerline of the block not easily excisable for inspection,easier to facilitate multivalve design and better head flow characteristics,more mass for the engine to turn which adds more friction & thus lower fuel economy. Check most of the manufactures in the World, & you will see all good contemporary engines are OHC not OHV such as legacy engines.

Not disagreeing with you, but like yourself I appreciate cutting edge designs.Unlike the new European high speed, high rail pressure auto Diesels ( which are very quick, & quiet & clean) BIG Diesels are slow (parts don't ware out as fast, plus their mass is so large it has to turn slow & get good fuel consumption) I guess you don't need high tech OHC designs,but I am thinking...you still can eliminate some parts...2 or 4 pushrods/ cylinder? Wouldn't this be better?

I forgot the most important design feature for pushrod engines, you can have individual cylinder heads facilitating easier head removal and repairs, unlike a one piece cylinder head which incorporates an OHC! Plus you need all the repairability to R&R one cylinder at a time on those big MAN behemoth engines used in ships. How's that for a compromise!

+Don G. Right on the money. ease of maintenance my friend. Generally if this engine was OHC it would take much longer to perform a top end or inframe overhaul. More than likely this generator set up will be used as prime power since it is using NG fuel. Meaning it will need overhauls more frequently than a standby. On an OHC set up It can be very costly to a customer if just one single head is leaking. Unlike this set up which is like a 3600. I overhauled 3600 engines in the field. With 3 to 4 other techs depending on how many cylinders and we could inframe overhaul it in the field in 1 week. That would of not have been the case with an OHC setup. One time we accidentally sliced one of the o-rings on the spacer plates during an overhaul. When we fired her up she started leaking. We just simply removed that 1 head replaced the cut o-ring and torqued her back down. That whole process took less than an hour. If it would of been and OHC we would of been fucked.
