Our cameras were given special access to the factory floor at Catrike in Orlando, Florida. General manager Mark Egeland walked us through the highly efficient trike manufacturing process step by step as we learned about all the remarkable machines, engineering and craftsmen responsible for building your next trike. We think this tour of the award winning small business will be as fascinating to watch as it was to make.

3 Catrikes in my garage now, wonderful trikes! In addition to new models Catrike should look at building factory electric assist versions for those that want ebikes but hate the clumsy aftermarket versions. I can’t imagine the design quality and looks of a factory version not to mention dependable.

These guys are the real deal. They have the most ideal manufacturing process! And the most ideal marketing situation as well. They are located smack in the middle of the most lucrative market for recumbent trikes in the nation. The retirement communities throughout the state, the numerous RV parks, the extensive trails traversing the state, and the wonderful year long weather add up to the biggest market for trikes. You can start arranging to show videos about the merits of riding recumbent trikes at the club houses in the many retirement communities throughout the state and be available to answer questions including the locations of the different bike shops that carry your trikes. Recumbent trikes are the perfect good news for seniors.

Another well Bent one from Laidback Bike Report, thanks Gary. Top notch walk through of the process in Manufacture. Heijunka and TPS at its best, back to my days of working in an Automotive Factory. Quality stop before proceeding forward. One wheel would take me at least an hour and half to lace and true by hand. Can't beat in house Manufacture and Product Development ( other Trike Manufacturers have their frames made in China). If i can make it over to the U.S.A, then the Catrike Factory WILL be on my Bent Bucket list.

Thanks, Derek! Automation is an important part but clearly not the only thing that makes the Catrike process so efficient. The Toyota type system they use is flexible, fast and accurate. It seems to me that having the right, properly trained people is also an essential component of the success of it all.

Once marketing takes off and Catrike becomes a well known name, they will have to duplicate their production capacity. With a mezzanine, the have enough overhead room to do it in the same production building. The TRIOT production facility in Utah will make another excellent tour film once it gets fully completed. It is a sprawling new facility.

I currently ride a Trail with a Bionx motor and it is incredible. It has 20” wheels and is not foldable so transporting it is a little difficult. I have done all of my research and I am in the process of ordering/ building a 26” drive wheel 559 foldable e bike which also will have an adjustable padded seat. They are incredible machines and worth every penny. After viewing this super video of the manufacturing facility, the design process and the high quality employees, I have no problem whatsoever with pricing. Made in USA with the best materials, workers, and precision. One only remembers price when they have spent had earned money and the product is substandard and must be discarded or replaced. Catrike is the real deal..made by pros and serviced by pros. My dealer in Mass is the best and I am fortunate that I have dozens of protected, designated , totally safe paths to ride on Cape Cod.I will take the folding 559 to Florida with me this winter...I was unable to transport my Trail there in the past. I do 100-150 miles per week and I am 67 and this product has me in the best physical condition in decades and I have met up with many riders here who join up for frequent rides.

Gary Solomon Thank you. I have done a lot of homework/ research and fortunately I am in a position to purchase these items. My dealer is Jeff Palter of Cycleloft in Burlington ,Ma and I drive 65 miles to avail myself of his expertise. Living on Cape Cod has made safe cycling commonplace with so many dedicated, safe paths. I never ride in traffic as it is just too unsafe with all of the distracted driving. Cape Cod Canal is 15 miles round trip and Falmouth to Woods Hole is 24 miles as is Brewster to Chatham and many others along abandoned railbeds on the Cape. The Catrike experience has truly been a life changing experience. I saw a guy on the Canal with one when riding my conventional bike, he let me demo his and I was in the store the next day!

Very good video n I feel more comfortable narrowing down my ultimate goal of selecting my first trike with electric drive options. Have to search an see if you folks currently have such a option? I generally run with the very best of everything n seldom am I disappointed. My needs are somewhat different than most. As I recently fell n crushed my vertebra n compound fractures everywhere. Prior to this recent incident, I have a lumbar fusion with hardware n artificial disc above that. So comfort to shock loads n bumps will likely win the trike purchase. I throughly enjoyed your video n the various stations n steps taken to manufacture such highly complex pieces. I will certainly placed your trikes is consideration as I research my future trike. If you don't currently have duel use with eclectic drive assist. I'd make changes very quickly to offer those issues. As that's where everyone who love trikes are heading towards. Thanks Ty Clark, northern Michigan.

Now I can see why the Catrike cost so much . They are trying to keep the tooling down and keep employment up a bit . That is smart thinking . All Catrikes is built by hand . The sad thing is there is going to be a conglomerate corporation going to make a copy and sell it at a much cheaper price . Thy will be made by all machines and a worker . They will put out 10,000 of these a day with sub materials and components . But they will be 200 bucks cheaper and the manufacturing cost will be 1/2 of the Catrike . I wish I can afford a good Trike . The VA signed me up for one and we will see . The trikes are donated to the VA by local dealers in the area and some times the manufactures . I mean GOD bless those that care for us and help us with our difficulties . I wish I had the money for 10 of these to give to my local VA . One day I might be able to own one and I can ride a gain .

In comparison to the other two Major brands Azub and HP Velotechnik they are in line in price and quality the bonus is they are built here in the USA. I would be interested to know how the VA will pay for you a trike. Please email me at richardmmillerjr@me.com. I'm a disabled vet and have not been able to ride on two wheels do to my medical issues.

@@richardmiller3808 Hello Richard . All you need to do is to get your care provider at the Va to get you into the R/T and there they have all kinds of programs including bike rides for standard bikes and three wheel bike of different kinds Tadpole and others including hand cranks . The Va id limited each year on these bikes . These bikes are donated by local bike shops and a few manufactures . I think Sun is one and Trident is the other . I applied for one but that dont mean I will get one . If a Vet that is more disabled than I then I will be thrown back . or if the board think I dont need one then It is up to me to get one out of pocket . I have spurs on my spine in two sections . I can ride an up right bike but maybe about 200 yards . This is because of pain in my legs and my back . Then there is the balance issues in the meds I take . I am not stable on an up right bike . So I am waiting on the waiting list . If I dont get one by the end of April then I dont think the VA can come threw with it . If that is the case then I can forget having a trike to ride . I just cant afford in buying a 2,000 dollar trike . I cant afford a 500 dollar trike . So I will do with out . It is not up the the VA giving you one . It a penal that chose who gets one . Always keep asking for what you need and ask everyone go to the reck center at a VA and ask there also . The coach may put up a recommendation with your primary care doctor . Good Luck . Another thing If you get one it is not yours to keep it is just for you to use . When you get done with it you must give it bake and if you get one you have to put as much miles on it as you can . I plain to put 5 miles a week on mine if I get one . I loved riding a bike before I went into service . I did it for transportation but I liked it . I can pack all of my things I need My blankets , a pan . matches , a few can goods and 3 gals of water . My fishing gear . That is just fishing line and a thing of hooks . You see back then I was homeless at 13 . I lived anywhere it is safe . I old barns , out in a fields , in trees , in old buses , you name it I was there . I had a bow for hunting and twine for trapping . I did this until I joined in 1977 . I was 19 then . It's been a long time being cleaned up with clean clothes . good beds and good grub . I joined because of this treatment . It was nice . I got to sleep the night and get up an hour or two before day light . More sleep I ever had in my life . I was the first one to hit the sack and the first one to get up . Standing all tall and proud at the end of the bunk . Then getting the beds cleaned up and out doing something . Boy did time fly by . By the time I got my shower and ready to hit the hay I was beat . Not in a bad way in a good way . I never felt better in my life . It was great .

I can help you. I am a USN Disabled Veteran and I was blessed to meet with Jerry and Jane Morris of Honor the Warriors Foundation via Tom Flohr of Trident Trikes. What they do is LEASE disabled Veterans a trike for a ridiculously low fee, and they fit and train you and they get you involved in really cool trike events. They are based near Charlotte, NC and I am near Wilmington, NC. I am pending my VA appointment in July, and HTWF is helping me document my miles because that is what the VA wants to ensure, is if we spend thousands on a trike for you, CAN you ride it safely. I built my miles up to 8.49 miles today in between rainstorms. This trike, a Trident Trike (based near Charlotte, NC) is an awesome trike too, and I am blessed to have met the inventor and manufacturer, Tom Flohr. IF the VA approves me for a trike I will most likely get a Catrike Dumont, and find a way to come up with the balance of what the VA provides and the cost of the Dumont. Recumbent Trike Riding has been a massive blessing to me as walking is growing more difficult and riding a two-wheeled bike is out of the question. They have a stable of adapted trikes and Jerry and Jane are two of the nicest people you could ever meet. Jerry is an former Army SPECWARFARE. @@richardmiller3808

@@GarySolomon I have never bothered to look into the bent world and all the vids about the bikes, this tour of Cattrike is nice but most of the vids are a horrible dissapointment for how cool and high-performance these machines are, I found it shocking, the missed opportunity to show off how amazing they are. I guess the majority of the owners are dreamy retierd professors and people that rvile at speed....not me, I scare people all the time on mine. ;]
